Advancements in agriculture, textile, transportation and economic growth became possible only because of the Industrial Revolution. Taking place in the United States between 18th and 19th century, times went from separating the cotton from its seed to using an automated cotton gin made by an American inventor Eli Whitney. This allowed for the lower class citizens to be able to have the important goods such as medication and clothing. Before the American Industrial Revolution, people were mostly farmers and life went by slowly and tedious work was required for simple tasks. But with inventions like the cotton gin, and the assembly line, mass production evolved. The United States had one of the fastest economic growths than any other country …show more content…
Without the Industrial Revolution, America would still have a sluggish life with heavy labor. The American Industrial revolution was a blessing to the American progression because it created the road to a massive economy, more jobs with a better work ethic, and made life easier with new inventions. Imagine a life where we would still have to ride in carriages to get down the streets and make our own clothes instead of just buying them. Well times similar to these have passed after the Industrial Revolution had started taking place. In addition to these inventions, there were the interchangeable parts, improved transportation, communication, clothes, and modern cities. The Industrial Revolution started with the invention of the Steam Engine by James Watt in 1775 (1). It was basically an engine that would induce the energy of steam to move other machines such as trains and powering factories. It was an incredible source of energy for transportation and goods. Public transportation such as locomotives could now be powered by the steam engine and this increased the speed of travel, which lowered the time to arrive at the destination. After the steam engine, the cotton gin invented by Eli Whitney was another remarkable invention during the Industrial Revolution. This machine easily separated the cotton fibers from its seeds. The invention and usage of the cotton gin augmented cotton production, mostly in the south. The rise in agriculture production increased greater
America had a huge industrial revolution in the late 1800”s. Many changes happened to our great nation, which factored into this. The evidence clearly shows that advancements in new technology, a large wave of immigrants into our country and new views of our government, helped to promote America’s huge industrial growth from the period of 1860-1900.
The industrial revolution started in Britain. Inventions of machines started to arise to complete tasks more efficiently and easier. The British industrial revolution led America to its own revolution. America’s transportation revolution greatly changed the future. Steamboats were invented and canals were created for the steamboats to decrease the time spent on travel. Railroads were also extremely important because they were even faster than the newly invented steamboat and twice as fast as a stagecoach. Urban growth also sparked as a result from the transportation revolution. Mass production took America by storm. Wood clocks, farm machinery and sewing machines all had many different parts and with the mass production of interchangeable parts
By the late 1750's the Industrial Revolution had begun. At first, inventions were strictly limited to cotton weaving. Inventions such as the spinning jenny and the water-powered frame, both of which provided sinning yarn faster, the spinning mule, the power loom and the cotton gin, all the manufacturer (internet source). These new inventions were all part of the textile mills, which were the first factories to be created. The textile mills manufactured cotton products faster than ever before. In addition, new forms of energy were also being used at this time. The Machine in America, by Carroll Pursell summarizes the transitions of energy use simply and effectively. She states:
There were many important developments to the cotton industry that came about due to the Industrial Revolution. The problem the cotton industry had was due to inadequate machinery or the lack of machinery. Clothes and other things that came from the cotton industry were being produced way too slowly and the price of the material was way too expensive for the average family. The first problem was that yarn was not being fed fast enough to the weaver, but in 1769, two new inventions solved the problem, the spinning jenny and the water-powered frame, both of which provided yarn faster. Edmund Cartwright, who invented the power loom, combined the machine’s characteristics and purposes into one machine in 1800. Cleaning cotton was also a tedious and time-consuming job, so in 1793, Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin, which could clean cotton 50 times faster than the previous outdated methods. Many people would actually walk around in filthy garments all of their lives but because of the new inventions they could afford to buy undergarments.
The Industrial Revolution play a vital role American history. It has a great effect in the economy, industry and standard of living for people. It has everlasting effects in our everyday life till date. American Industrial Revolution helped to enhance the output of cotton. The most important developments in America were the spinning jenny, the cotton gin, and the industrial factory. These serves as the foundation which other industries followed in order to increase production. It shows in a new age where tasks such as textile work and farming were handled by machines that were faster and more efficient than people. It also leads to specialization which allow one person to perform a single task and guarantee them wages as a source of income.
The industrial revolution was a time of great innovation, the start of big buisness as we see it today, and was a time period that shaped the ''american dream'' as we see it today. Beginning with british and european inventors such as John Kay, who invented the ''Flying shuttle, and James Hardgreave's ''spinning jenny'', both machines speeding up the process of making yarn and spinning cloth, people started to create inventions that performed tedious and laborous activities for them, allowing buisness to grow at a faster rate. The invention of steam powered engines on top of many other things allowed people to start building factories and gain large amounts of capital through their business ventures. Trade grew at rapid rates as a ''commercial
There have been more than one industrial revolution(s). For example, there was the agricultural revolution of the 18th century. Two things that led to the industrial revolution were the Embargo act of 1807 and the War of 1812. The Embargo act forced the U.S to make their own goods to trade with other countries. The War of 1812 made them see the need for better a transportation, independent markets, and economic independence. Before the industrialization, manufacturing was often done in people's homes with tools they had on hand. The Industrial Revolution started in Britain, then spread to other European countries. In addition to producing a large amount of new products, the Industrial Revolution also create a large amount of jobs for people. Many things were invented during the Industrial Revolution. For example: the spinning jenny(wool spinner), the steam engine, the power loom, the telegraph, the sewing machine, the telephone, and the airplane. That’s just a few of what was invented. There are many more things that were made that make life easier for us now. A lot of them we take for granted. Had the Industrial Revolution not happened, we would not be as advanced as we are now. There are literally over a hundred things that we use today that were invented during the Industrial Revolution that we use today. (I
Many great things came out of the Industrial Revolution. Not only were new things created, but they were innovated. This is when factories began to open, making cities form, urbanizing the area. Because of these factories we saw a growth in the middle class. People that were running the factories and apart of high management were what made up the middle class. These companies grew and created many jobs that were fairly simple and a high education was not needed to do them. As more people began to take these jobs and work, we began to see mass production. There was also a boost in agriculture development. The population was growing and also materials were needed, so a more efficient way to grow things was needed and developed. We created the
Over the years the economy of the industrial revolution has developed a tremendous growth with the use of inventions. This would cause the economy of certain places would grow into a more first world type of country with the use of manufacturing and transporting goods. Some essential inventions were founded in England then later spread to other continents in Europe and the Americas. Inventions like the Watt steam engine mainly benefited capitalists in England. Not only did this help England create the first fully functional railroads, this led to their complex trading system. However, not all inventions were ever so beneficial, in fact most have caused inadequate living conditions to the working poor. The cotton gin was another
This revolution was a time where there was a large increase of the output of machine made goods. England started out as a farming landscape and then inventions allowed for urbanization to begin. At first, there was the invention of a new agriculture method which allowed for better agriculture systems that better England economy. Also, an industry that changed forever was the Textile Industry. The flying shuttle doubled the work a weaver could do in a day and the Jenny, which was a spinner that worked eight threads at a time. Multiple inventions were created to deal with the problems that stood in the way of production. Watt’s steam engine was able to create a steam engine that worked faster and more efficiently than ever before, as John McAdam built roads that helped improve the British roadwork (“The Beginnings to the Industrial Revolution”). Nonetheless, from inventions came experimental data and conclusions that helped push the revolutions of
During the Industrial Revolution, people and towns went from hand manufacturing goods like cloth, to making them twice as fast with the work of machines. Starting at around 1760, machines began to replace man power. Instead of one hand cranked device huge assembly lines took their place. There were many down sides to working in a factory too though, it was unsafe and people would frequently get in accidents and lose limbs, other times, the living conditions were so poor and the pay was so low that people would go on strike. Americas economy was also prospering from all the purchases made from their own factories, instead of buying British goods. The Industrial Revolution also made it so people could move up in social class, anyone could own
The main reason the industrial revolution was as revolutionary as it was, was because of the inventions that radically changed the way people lived and worked. One of the first major inventions of the industrial revolution was canals. Canals were man made waterways that represented rivers but were smaller. They were able to be used as a new form of transport. Previously things such as coal could only be transported from village to village by horse-drawn wagons. The horse-drawn wagons would travel along dirt roads that could easily get flooded when it rained meaning they became impassable, whereas canals could be used all year round in any weather for half the price. Many that invested their money into building then running canals (the first
The American people are able to enjoy this industrial revolution because it bring about more opportunity in terms of external economies and other possibility of creating businesses that would not have been possible if industrial revolution had not happened. Hence, Americans was able to benefit from industrial revolution through creation of more jobs and improve economy that makes it possible for the American public to spend money and improve their
It began in late-eighteenth century England and traveled across borders into Belgium, France, Germany, Japan, and the United States in the early nineteenth century. Economic growth in Britain was fueled by a number of factors. These include an agrarian revolution, which resulted in better nutrition, boosted England’s populace, and created necessary labor; a technological revolution, or a series of inventions created according to principles of mass production, interchangeable parts, and automation; natural resources, mainly coal and iron; and political stability. However, if one event were to be named the catalyst of the Industrial Revolution, it would be the 1770 invention of the steam engine by James Watt. This was followed by the 1793 invention of the cotton gin by Eli Whitney, which revolutionized the way textiles were made. These innovations in conjunction with an increase in the labor force and the number of factories resulted in increased production rates. Moreover, average income experienced rapid growth, the standard of living for the general population was raised, and the speed and volume of transportation improved as a result of the Revolution. It should also be noted that while the Industrial Revolution was primarily an economic movement, it also affected society and politics. A major social change was the emerging of a large
The Industrial Revolution was a period from the 18th to the 19th century where major changes in agriculture, manufacturing and technology had a profound effect on the socioeconomic and cultural conditions of the world. The Industrial Revolution began in the United Kingdom as large deposits of coal and iron were found throughout the land which brought the rise of factories and machines, the idea then subsequently spread throughout the world. It was perhaps one of the greatest moments in human history, as it gave rise to industrialization and the switch from manpower to machine power. It completely revolutionized the world and forever changed the course of humanity. However, many scholars and historians believe that the Industrial
