According to recent survey data over a half of voters believe that the American media is biased. But another forty percent say that they filter out the media because of how biased it is. Newspapers are driven by an economic motive more than a political motive, which is why it wouldn’t make sense for newspapers to just be biased without any real economic motive. The only real explanation for this is that newspapers are biased only towards what their consumers want to hear, and if consumers hear what they want to hear then they will keep buying the newspaper. During this week I investigated many different news sources and different tactics they use. My research has shown the incredibly strong bias that the media has. To get a full grasp of the biases I had to use source diversity. My sources ranged from social media, to television, to web-based articles. Through my research, I discovered the effective and prevalent uses of loaded language, social media, sensationalism, bias in quotes, and the role of gatekeepers in media.

It’s estimated that nearly 1/3 of people suffer from obesity in North America. Rather than being a part of the solution, the media has a portrayal of what one should and should not look like, what is beautiful and what is not, typically possessing unrealistic standards and showing those that are overweight, as weak-willed individuals, who generally are blue collared individuals. This paper shall discuss obese individuals and how they are portrayed on television or on online streaming programming. Secondly, this paper shall discuss why this group has such a negative portrayal. Third, this paper will discuss what social pressures and production forces shape these portrayals. Finally, this paper will incorporate a media theory and explain what effects it has on the audiences and how obese individuals are typically treated in society.

The news is a major source of information used by many people in order to gain knowledge on current events. However, it can become unreliable due to various media biases. These biases are used to make the news more plot driven in order to increase viewers and profits rather than providing in-depth analysis of pertinent issues. Media biases can be dangerous to society, and can give citizens a false view of what is going on in the world. They can strike fear into viewers, and make them believe that the world around them is much less safe then it actually is. The American populace rely on entertainment and news networks to properly feed them updates on science, politics, celebrities and so much more. Plaguing over 310 million Americans with an STD so horrifying, it is everywhere - nearly every news channel, nearly every newspaper, and nearly every news websites gives it to the people. This STD is one that has grown to the government, grown to the politics and grown to the society of our county. This STD is softness, transience and distortion within the media in our country. Every single American is prone to this sickening disease. By softening the news, breaking stories in a transient time without full accuracy and distorting the meaning of stories the news has made the American people a recipient of an STD.

Research indicates that high inequality reverberates through societies on multiple levels, correlating with, if not causing, more crime, poorer mental and physical health (Williams, R., 2011). This can be attributed to the large income gap that the U.S has currently.

In recent years, superheroes have gained popularity in public media and have been produced by Marvel into major movies. As these films make their way onto the big screen, they highlight the fact that superheroes have extraordinary skills beyond those of an ordinary human. While these films are meant for entertainment, they inadvertently reinforce a gender ranking, creating unequal exposure between male and female characters. Marvel superhero films are an aspect of public media that reinforce structural inequality by underrepresenting, oversexualizing and perpetuating racial homogeneity of women in mass media. The continuation of structural inequality of gender and race through Marvel superhero films fails to challenge social norms and bring an end to this structural inequality.

Gender inequality is the idea or situation that men and women are not equal, and is a problem in countries around the world. I will be focusing my research on this type of inequality in Canada. It is an issue for both men and women that they are exposed to at birth, is fed by the media as a teen, and continues in their everyday life as an adult. My approach to this issue is examining three topics that are related to my assignment: childhood, everyday life, and the media. Acts of gender inequality can be found within these broad points that negatively or positively affect males and females. For childhood, there will be toys, clothing, and child advertising. In everyday life, I will cover the workplace, travel, and costs. Media will include celebrities, television/movies, and social media. My thesis statement is: gender inequality is evident in many stages of human development through childhood, teenage years, and adulthood. Gender inequality is a real thing and it is proven in childhood, as a teenager, and adult.

Across the United States, the matter of racism and stereotypes has been a sensitive topic for centuries. Although, we are taking baby steps to solve the issue of injusticeness, we still have a great deal of progress to make. This is a relevant topic because in recent news there have been large issues of race, particularly minorities. One major source of entertainment is television, in particular shows and movies, there are major enhancement of stereotypes and degradation.
