Abstract This paper examines influences of heredity and hormones on human behavior and character. It also discusses the function of the endocrine system, the organs and hormones that they secrete. Nonetheless, the paper looks at genetics and evolutionary psychology in light of transference of behavior from parents to off springs or one generation to another. Heredity and Hormones Heredity is the transferring of biological qualities from the parents to the offspring via the genes. The genes are responsible for constituting an individual's character and behavior; genes can also influence development of certain diseases. On the other hand, hormones are the body's chemicals that signal different functions to occur such as change of mood or trigger certain behavior. Heredity influences one's behavior. The influence of heredity is life long since it is established in the genetic makeup. For instance, one may be polite as result of heredity and is a lifelong quality. Hormones on the other hand influence specific actions in the body. For instance, hormones can create alertness or anxiety.
