INFLUENZA Flu season is upon us and influenza has hit our area particularly hard this year. The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and lungs that spread from person to person through sneezing and coughing. The flu can also be spread surfaces when infected people touch surfaces such as door knobs, shopping carts, computer keyboards, countertops, etc. Symptoms of the flu include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Though it can be difficult to avoid the flu entirely, there are things you can do to protect yourself and your household from getting the flu by following these steps at home. Continue these steps daily throughout the flu season.
Influenza, also known as the flu, is a highly contagious viral disease that affects the upper respiratory tract. Flu season typically lasts between the months of October and April. Signs and symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches, fatigue, runny nose, and headaches. Individuals that are at a high risk of getting the flu include: children under the age of two, persons 65 and older, pregnant women, and persons with a chronic illness. Environment factors can also increase the risk of contracting the flu. Complications can include pneumonia, ear and sinus infections, dehydration, or worsening of chronic medical conditions. The influenza virus could eventually lead to longer hospitalization or death if left untreated. According to the CDC, the best way to prevent the flu is by getting vaccinated each year. Compliance with the vaccination is also important in preventing the flu.
The Great Influenza is a book not many enjoy. However, Dr. Petri enjoys this book for reasons that are lost to many. The book starts off on part one chapter 1 the Warriors. it starts off with imagery of September 12, 1876 talking about it crowd in an auditorium in Baltimore’s Academy of music. this was too launch John Hopkins University where they say they would change all of American education and in this first page you meet Thomas H. Huxley an English scientist who is the keynote speaker of this event. then give me George Armstrong Custer who “led the seventh Cavalry to with the stretching at the hands of him video savages resisting encroachment of the white man.” customer had spoke on the front page of the Washington star. then the book starts going deeper into detail
Annually there are a number of children who contract the influenza during the influenza season that results in an increase in costs in pediatric office visits and antibiotic and other medications consumption and also in a significant increase in absences from school and work. Thus influenza vaccination of children can help reduce the number of visit to pediatric office, hospitalizations, and help prevent the spread of influenza in the wider community. Moreover vaccinating children is cost effective when considering all the cost of treatment for influenza and its complications. Therefore yearly vaccination of children with the inactivated influenza vaccine save parent money and time away from the pediatric clinic. Influenza vaccine does not

Describe two innate (nonspecific) immune responses that might prevent an influenza virus from causing any noticeable infection, even if the virus enters your respiratory passages.
Influenza: By Abbey Stansborough What part of the body does it effect: Influenza effects almost all of your body but the most common parts that cause the most pain are your head lower back and legs, there is different types of pain so it isn't the same pain everywhere. Symptoms: Some of the symptoms are: Chills Aching behind the eyes Loss of appetite Sore throat Runny/stuffy nose Sudden appearance of high fever Dry cough Body aches Felling weak and tired These are the symptoms that most people have and they are the most common but everyone is different and some people Causes or attributing factors to the disease: The most common way to catch the flu is by touch or if you come in contact with someone who already has the flu. The Spanish influenza, also known as La Grippe, Spanish Lady, three day fever, purulent bronchitis, sand-fly fever and Blitz Katarrh (The 1918 Influenza Pandemic) was a global disaster which occurred between March of 1918 and the spring season of 1919 (The 1918 Influenza Pandemic). This virus was more catastrophic even than the First World War which was occurring at the same time the influenza broke out, killing more people than the Great War itself (The 1918 Influenza Pandemic). The virus killed more people in one year than in the four years of the Black Death Bubonic Plague (The 1918 Influenza Pandemic). Many questions about the flu’s origin and its nature remain largely mysterious to epidemiologists and scientists alike. (1918 Influenza:
Influenza A is a highly contagious infection of the respiratory tract that affects all ages. The infection is highest among children and the frequency of serious illness and death is greatest among older adults, over 65 years old. Influenza often is a self-limited disease, subsiding without therapy. It comonly occurs in outbreaks, mainly in the winter months.
Influenza is a contagious respiratory infection that is caused by influenza virus. Influenza is commonly called flu. Many people underestimate influenza, and think it is a mild disease. In fact, influenza is a deadly disease if it has not taken care of. For example, from 1918 to 1919 about 20million people died from influenza(1). To better understand influenza, it is important to know how it spreads, how is it prevented, and the strains it has.
Influenza is a virus that is spread through airborne droplets, which are present when coughing, sneezing, and even talking (Adams, 2017). The awesome thing about influenza (i.e. the flu) is that it is fairly easy to prevent. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) lists seven ways you can use to protect yourself from the flu. The number one and most important is to get your yearly flu vaccination. Also, prevention includes avoiding close contact with those who are sick; staying home when you are sick; covering your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing; cleaning your hands with warm water and soap; avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth; and last but not least, practicing generally good health habits (CDC.gov, 2015). Adequate sleep,

Influenza, or what most people call the “flu”, is a respiratory infection that is an example of an acute emerging infectious disease. Influenza is caused by the influenza virus, which is a negative sense single stranded RNA virus and is a localized infection affecting the respiratory tract. Influenza virus has eight different RNAs in its genome that encode for viral genes. Influenza is prevalent throughout the United States and the world, requiring international surveillance of the virus by the World Health Organization (WHO). The influenza virus infects 5 to 10% of the United States population every year.
Influenza is a very contagious virus that attacks the respiratory system of anyone's body. There are three different types of the Influenza, A, B, C. Type A and B is the illness that occurs in the winter, type C differs from A and B, it’s a delicate attack, or nothing at all. The flu can easily be transmitted by coughing, sneezing, also by contact. Doctors will recommend to rest and stay at home, consume plenty of liquids, and importantly trying to avoid contact with anyone. The influenza “virus mutates rapidly as it moves from species to species” (Influenza, flu). This virus causes many symptoms like sore throat, headaches, muscle aches, often extreme fatigues, and also high temperatures. Nausea and vomiting are basic symptoms for young people.
The disease spreads when infected persons sneeze, cough or talk. A person can also get the flu by touching a surface or object that has the flu virus then touching their own mouth or nose (CDC, 2015). It is estimated that the annual flu virus infects between 10 to 20 percent of the population. (Toronto Influenza Update, 2014). Person’s sick from the flu can have symptoms such as; a high fever (38 C (100.4 F), dry cough, and aching body, feeling very weak and tired. Some people may also experience; chills; loss of appetite; sore throat; runny or stuffy nose; some people may have nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. (CDC, 2015). The virus lowers the body ability to fight other infection. This can lead to bacterial infections such as pneumonia and even death in the elderly, children (6-59 months) and pregnant women. (Public Health Agency of Canada, 2013). In Canada, an average of 12,200 hospitalization and 3,500 deaths due to influenza occur annually (Toronto Influenza Update,
There has been an all-out American effort to stop a new kind of bird flu from leaving Hong Kong. There has been a great wall, built fast to stop an outbreak of bird flu from traveling to American shores. This strain of avian influenza has frightening potential, even though the virus has not mutated into its most deadly form. Health agencies around the globe, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, are working around the clock to prevent an outbreak. Because if contagion begins, Hong Kong is key. It is one of the most densely populated places on earth. One person comes into a diner with the flu and coughs, half the diner could become ill. The flu began among birds all over this country and it must be contained. Forty three people have been infected, 11 of them have died. Most have had contact with the avian influenza. Health officials have been monitoring more than 1,000 close contacts of those who are ill to see if they get sick, too. The urgency here is because bird flus can change and it's possible the
