The use of mobile technology in the healthcare industry has exploded in the last ten years. Mobile health or mHealth, provides an entire new aspect of the relationship between patients and their doctors and other medical providers. Mobile devices place important and critical information into a medical professional’s hands in real-time. Doctors can monitor a patient’s condition more frequently, allowing them to make better and more informed decisions and diagnoses.
As consumers utilize smartphones, tablets, and other devices for other functions like social media and email, they are starting to look at these features to assist them with their healthcare. Mobile body area network devices will be a growing trend in the coming years as a way to get patients engaged in their healthcare and also to give providers routine updates on the status of patients with chronic conditions. As DeGaspari (2014) indicates, these devices can lead to improved functionality for other devices used in hospitals, such as sensors for monitoring patients that might get up and wander or be a fall risk. Telemedicine will continue to grow as payers, providers, and patients all start to realize the mutual benefits that can be
This is critical in the medical field because it allows healthcare workers to access the information needed to provide patients with the care they deserve. Physicians, nurses, and technicians can use this technology to look medical records and past diagnosis to create future care plans for the patient. For example, the simple use of the cell phone pictures could favor in formulating a medical or nursing diagnosis. The enhanced technology regarding smartphones and digital cameras are now being tested as diagnostic tools. Some physicians are considering this process as a mean of time and cost efficiency, as well as a way to develop existing diagnostic and management practices (C., 2010).
The current system that we have is not effective for the staff and needs to be upgraded. When choosing a system for the hospital, we need to make sure it meets the privacy for our patients and is effective for our staff. When our staff is treating our patients, we need to be mindful of the placement of computers in patient rooms so staff can easily access them and bring them to a comfortable level for them to work. These computers need to have the security screen protection covers placed over them so visitors cannot see the screen as the staff is documenting. I also think we should install the fingerprint identification to allow fast and easy access to the system, so the staff is able to complete real time charting and in the event of an emergency they are not trying to type out their password and forgetting, having this device installed will also ensure that patients are not able to can access to the computer (Maksimov & Kalkis, 2016).
The emergency department in the modern hospital is one of the most complex clinical settings to operate. According to Johnson, Sensei, & Capasso (2012), this department is an intersection of the diagnosis and treatment of emergency cases. As a result, it experiences immense volumes of patients every day. However, in most hospitals, patients visit the facilities with an indication of what they might be suffering from. Specifically, they use their iPhones to get a list of conditions that they might be having (Boncana, 2016). This method of detection has come to be known as mHealth. In this regard, mHealth, rather mobile health, is a method that patients use to enhance their health and medical practices via the use of mobile technology. The cell phones used in this approach are equipped with medical/health software, a personal digital assistant (PDA), and patient monitoring devices.
The health care industry has become increasingly reliant on technology. From medical translation tools to mobile apps, these devices are helping healthcare institutions save money and improve patient treatment.
The centralized point for the patient information is an integral segment of the clinical transformation. Once an office has transfer from paper-based records to the electronic, he or she will make the records more accessible and easy to obtain through the Tablet PC. With a Tablet PC, doctors along with other medical staff can update a patient's record even when he or she is away from his or her workstation. The Tablet PC will increase the doctor's mobility because; he or she will be able to access the information virtually anywhere, which they would not have to depend on the nurses to pull the charts.
The advance in technology is so fascinating. We live in a world of smart phones and computers. The advancement in technology is enabling providers to reach out to those who would normally not seek traditional health care settings, especially the millennium population. A quick google search using key words smartphones and healthcare provides a wealth of information related to some of the up and coming ways healthcare providers are instituting.
Today, it is a common practice for patients to hold video conferences with physicians to save time and money normally spent on traveling to another geographic location or the time spend sending health information to specialist or doctor in the world. With more hospitals and practices using medical technology like mobile devices on the job, physicians now have access to any type of information they need, from “drug information, research and studies, patient history or records, and more within mere seconds” (Healthcare Business, 2014). The ease at which these mobile devices can be carry around provides physicians with the needed information. Applications that aid in identifying potential health threats and examining digital information like X-rays and computerized tomography (CT) scans also contribute to the benefits that information technology brings to medicine (Healthcare business, 2014).
The Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is a secure source of information that give clinicians real-time access to a variety of patient health information. It is a new technology in the health and hospital information field where clinical, demographic, and management information is entered in a electronic record. EMR information can be accessed such as patient history, billing or insurance data, allergies, immunizations, medications, orders, laboratory tests, diagnostic results, and images with just pushing a few keystrokes. It is an application technology that has enormous potential to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of health care through decreased medical errors, increased preventative care and improved detection and treatment (Fiato, K. A., 2012).
One of the greatest challenges when accessing, transmitting, receiving and storing protected health information while using mobile health technology is not knowing if the device is secure and protected. Not knowing if your device is protected makes you wonder. You often hear about hackers, spyware and viruses that affected personal computers I couldn’t Image the great affects that would on a device that had patient information. If a personal were to hack on to your mobile device with patient information you would be violating HIPAA and put all the patient’s information as risk. Patient information at risk can be their personal demographics such address, phone numbers and even social security numbers. You would also have a get risk that their
Versustech software solution has many advantages over other patient flow software because it drives efficiency by reducing time spent searching for people and assets. It tracks where patients are and how long they have been waiting. The big part of the solution utilizes RFID badges that would be issued to patients and caregivers, this allows
Securing the healthcare information is achieved by taking preventive measures. The importance of health care data security is a delicate issue and it is however important that basic procedures and structure need to be in place to protect patient’s information. Attacks on the mobile devices usually occur through the individuals of the organization by compromising integrity, confidentiality, and availability of the data which are the three main security goals. Manipulating the patient’s medical history by gaining access over the network through mobile devices leads to inappropriate treatment of the patient. If the attacker intrudes the Health Care System, he can take control over the servers that operates the medical devices and disable them
The purpose of this research project is to determine whether San Jacinto College has lived up to its fifth value, the sense of community, and to provide ideas on how it may continue to do so. This paper discusses three other ways to help promote a sense of community at an institution and why it is important, that have been suggested by other colleges and experts. One of the mentioned techniques was used about a decade ago at several public secondary educational institutions, the experiment is known as “Theme Years.” The two other more recent suggestions generally discuss about the importance of adopting an early-alert system and the role of instructors and students in a classroom environment. Furthermore, the paper evaluates whether San Jacinto College has actually lived up to its fifth value: a sense of community, through the framework of the three techniques mentioned above. Along with the evaluation it also provides ways in which San Jacinto College can continue to live up to this value.
It is important to understand that patients are very satisfied with electronic health systems. For example, patients see a vast improvement in the speed at which they are being seen when they go their doctors’ office. Patients no longer have to wait on their physicians for hours due to the fact that their information can be readily available to their physicians when they come to see them. Moreover, all their information is transparent to their health care provider since all their data is in electronic form.
