Introduction
In this day and age everyone has to be concerned with security threats that could occur at their home. According to Safeguard, “2,000,000 home burglaries are reported each year in the United States” (2010). Since there are so many burglaries a year in the United Stated, you need to understand what your current security standings is in your residence and then also understand what you can do to improve it. I have been living in the Northside area in Cincinnati for the past two years. The building that I currently live in has built layers of security by having a fence, doors, lighting and cameras to watch over the place.
Security Assessment
I currently live in the American Can Lofts that are located in Northside in Cincinnati. The Northside area has a perception of a being an unsafe area as it is near the college campus and the income is lower. According to Areavibes, “The estimated Northside crime index is 4% higher than the Cincinnati average and the Cincinnati crime index is 110% higher than the Ohio average” (2015). So the crime index is higher for Northside area, but not that much different from Cincinnati. I feel pretty safe walking around the neighborhood as you can see police officers patrolling occasionally. There is also usually a good amount of people walking around.
The first layer
This is the first time since we lived here that I have not felt safe in my home.
The majority of crime like burglaries can be prevented by taking simple precautions. A broken and damage home can lead to money and dread in a person’s future. It is important that you do whatever you can to deter burglars for targeting your home. A safer home would not give an opportunist thief the chance to steal from your home. Simple steps such as target hardening, changes to the physical environment and community building can reduce the chances of you being the next victim.
Cincinnati is generally not perceived as a safe, or low crime environment. According to a study conducted by the Business Insider with data provided by the FBI’s preliminary 2012 unified crime report, Cincinnati was the 16th most dangerous city out of a comparative study of 400 urban areas in the U.S. (Warner et al. 2013). Moreover, “Over-the-Rhine”, a notorious Cincinnati neighborhood was listed as one of the “Top 25 Worst Neighborhoods in America” in a study based on data from FBI of 17,000 law enforcement agencies before 2013 (Farnham, 2013). In addition, the University of Cincinnati, located near the city center, was ranked as the 13th most dangerous university in the nation, according to a report based on data from FBI from 2008 to 2011
Information security analysts come up with security measures to protect a given organization's networks and/or systems. As technology is constantly advancing, the responsibilities for this career are expanding with it ("Information Security Analysts). Think of them as the security guards of technology. Like a security guard, they monitor the networks and respond accordingly to unwanted events, like a hacking attempt. This would be compared to a real security guard standing in the corner with their arms crossed and jumping in if a fight breaks out.
The university should educate the students and faculty to access authorized data without exposing the data to outsiders.
Now that we have gone through assaults, it is time to discuss robbery preventions. Sadly when it comes to burglaries there is no way of reducing the price, but there are ways to prevent it from happening. Let’s start with the most conspicuous way, lock your doors and windows. This may be evident, but according to the San Jose Police Department, 30% of burglaries in the United States are unlawful entries. Unlawful entries mean that they were able to enter your house without needing to break in, probably due to an effortless access from the back door. If you want to take another step to go above and beyond then install double key deadbolts, they are stronger and more secure.
It is too late to think about residential security flaws after the break–in. People commit some common mistakes when it comes to home security and later repent it. A break–in and the damages caused by the intruder can make the homeowner distressed. To avoid any such thing happening, avoid the following flaws in your home security.
At the end of the day, if they want in bad enough, they'll go for it. The idea is to make your house less attractive to burglars by taking preventive measures, increasing the time it takes to break in. If you've taken the steps I've listed above, your typical burglar will move on to the next house who didn't adequately protect their
Recent crime statistics show that crime rates across the country are up. Burglary, robbery, forcible entry, and thefts are top crimes. Of course, those living in residential areas are often targets of those crimes. Certainly, it is important for people living in residential neighborhoods to feel that they are safe and secure in their home. We offer residential alarm systems in Brooklyn NY and Ney York NY. The fact is that property crimes are holding steady across the country and they've become more violent. Consequently, we feel that it is important to provide your family with high quality and reliable protection.
The Main Purpose of Security Management and Security Measures must be Commensurate with the Threat
Statistics show that residential security systems greatly reduce the chances of your house being burglarized. Not only is that good news when it comes to keeping your family
As stated in Coping with burglary, the danger of property crime cannot be eliminated but surely can be shortened. There are some recommendations to avoid to the maximum any kind of burglary; avoid inner-city, and being next to pubs or places with entertainment, having a resident porter, fitting window locks, blocking access to the rear, making the house more visible from the street, having a burglar alarm, buying a dog, simulate occupancy while we are away.
Any action, if not taken immediately, is useless. We may see the warning signs written on the wall, but we are only damaging the safety of ourselves by not acting quickly. From personal experience, true security is only felt until robbery actually happens. Once the crime is committed, there is no going back, retracing steps, or installing security systems. Stolen items are not recoverable most of the time. By first taking action, no losses will be accounted for, and personal sense of security will be intact. The best time to take any action is before any drastic event occurs, not
There were a number of factors that contributed to the breach, which had they been addressed or had corresponding mitigation responses in place, would have reduced the likelihood that the breach would have taken place, or at a minimum reduce the impact of the attack. These items range from policy related issues, technology implementations, and security management and maintenance. Although I believe a number of these areas were in the process of being addressed, based on the information gathered regarding the details of the incident, it appears that it was still in many areas insufficient and would not have prevented an incident even if there had been more time available to perform the implementations.
Customer Needs- Security systems are required by people to0 keep their homes safe, it gives them a sense of safety for their personal belongings, when they are away from their home.
