I had the opportunity to conduct an informational interview with John Fenning, the CEO of DRI Consulting. I particularly chose the field of Consulting Psychology because during my summer internship I got a first hand experience to see how consulting psychology is utilized to provide management assessments services and other related services for hiring top positions. This intrigued me and seems like an a promising career field where it’s possible to use both my psychology and management studies education. From my informational interview with John Fenning I learned that Consulting Psychology is a people’s side of system operation that involves influencing a number of different industries and organizations. It’s a job that requires the ability to lead and manage, especially when dealing with external clients and managing the internal staff …show more content…
Basically, after my informational interview with John, I really wanted to get some experience in consulting psychology to further observe if this is a field that I can envision myself in. This internship will involve me doing duties such as researching assessment tools and helping the development of assessment package options and the company’s website. I think this type of exposure will help me as I make decisions in regards to my future career goals. As for my second experiential learning activity I was the public relations on the Board of Leaders for the St. Olaf Student Support Services. In this role, I met weekly with the advisor and members of the board to plan educational and social events for the SSS community. I also promoted events and activities through social media engagement, campus fliers, and email announcements. This role helped me represent and feel closer to the SSS community, and I was able to develop valuable skills such as leadership, organization, and eye for details skills that I will take with me wherever I may
I was the activities director and as activities director, I executed and supervised extracurricular activities, programs, and field trips. I created and designed promotional materials for all activities, wrote and published school newsletters, and managed social media content. Being an adolescent in this position, gave me a better insight on what the students desired and I, in turn, gave the students a greater experience in that area. I will take that drive, determination, and experience, and everything I learned from it and apply it to my schoolwork and my overall college
Bergan and Kratochwill’s model is a behavioral-operant model that defines consultation as an indirect, problem-solving service involving a collegial relationship between the consultant and consultee in which the consultant acquires and communicates psychological data that will enable the consultee to utilize the data. Relies upon a complex communications model to elicit the information needed and includes a series of specific recommendations regarding problem identification and resolution. Bergan and Kratochwill view the consultant as an AUTHORITY FIGURE WHO ASSUMES PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CONSULTING RELATIONSHIP. Also, they focus on changing BEHAVIORS! Thus, the primary goals are:
I believe that an internship in either Human Services or Health Sciences will be an an exceptional way to see firsthand what I have been reading in textbooks and discussing in class for the last year. I have always had a particular interest in the clinical side of psychology, so given the choice I would like to shadow a practicing professional rather than spend time "behind the scenes" or in a lab, which in turn will give me hands on experience with patients and a better understanding of psychological disorders and issues. Through such interactions I hope to fully display my communication, analytical, and problem solving skills and eventually put them to the test. I hope to gain not just the experience of the work life, but also I want to learn
For health 490, I am seeking to get an internship that will help cultivate certain aspects of my personal, academic, and career development. When considering my personal development, what I strongly want to improve upon are skills such as leadership capabilities, public speaking, and health communication. I am also seeking for a boost in my confidence in regards to my overall competency and knowledge base in the health field. My self-assurance will not simply stem from the education I gained at Maryland, but will also depend heavily on the first-hand experiences my internship will provide. By exuberating more confidence, I will be able to become more of an effective leader, which will in turn make me successful in my field of work. The target
Having the desire to begin a career in psychology I searched far and wide to secure an internship as close to counseling as I could. Since counseling is so delicate when it comes confidentiality it was going to be almost impossible to get a real experience out of an internship here. As I was told by my favorite teacher in high school, Mr. O’Shea, “every good manager has a backup.” The next plan was to pursue an internship in my future minor in college which is music production.
I am ready to challenge myself to learn the dynamics of how a large company works and communicates along with exploring new fields in STEM. I am ready and willing to learn and accomplish whatever is required. I would enjoy learning how to code as this is a skill that I could use to improve my robotics team greatly. I am also interested in learning more about media protection and company branding. The skills I will learn through this internship will help guide my career choice in STEM and prepare me for college. No matter what career in the area of STEM I chose to go into, I know that communication, technical skills and business management will be necessary skills to have to provide quality results. I look forward to listening to, learning from, and leading
I am passionate about mental health and I wish to pursue a career in clinical psychology. I have currently been working as a research assistant for the medical director of the Huntercombe group, where I have had the opportunity to develop auditing and research skills by conducting studies and literature reviews. My role has involved working closely with all the Huntercombe group hospitals to collect data from patients and healthcare professionals to identify improvement areas, by
With this internship, I learned how to use my talents and skills to help others. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to experience the different aspects of the nonprofit sector. I learned about fundraising, maintained upkeep of the boutique, and interacted with clients during suitings. While I did enjoy learning more about how nonprofits operate, the part I most enjoyed was interacting with clients. In particular, what intrigued me the most was the fact that no client interaction was the same -each and every interaction captivated me and kept me on my feet.

An intern position at the Veterans Administration Medical Center interests me because I see the importance of working with adults who are experiencing mental illness, especially
While shredding paper and assembling assessment packs were not the most exciting of jobs, I really enjoyed getting to talk to therapists, directors, and the office administrator, as they enhanced what little information I knew about workplaces and how they functioned. Developing an understanding of various other practices and strategies within psychology was icing on the cake. I did not know what to anticipate when I came in for my internship at re...root, but whatever vague expectation I held was blown away thanks to all the people I have met, and all that I have learned -- in psychotherapy, business, or
Completed one months internship with the head of psychology department, which provided exposure to counseling, assessments and dignosisng clients, upon the authroization of the individials and supervision from the head psychologist.
My internship can help me learn how my classroom knowledge applies to real situations in social work. It can also afford
The experience I have valued the most thus far is my participation in Leadershape. I grew more as a person and as a leader in those 6 days than I had my entire first semester. At Leadershape, I was able to connect with dozens of other Smith students who also want to change the world. While there, I was pushed to figure out what my passions and values were. I was encouraged to think about the traits and factors I stand by and use to make my choices. I participated in simulations that tested those values and was able to further identify what is important to me. Leadershape was a life changing experience for me and I fully believe that if not for my participation in that, I would not be as effective of a leader and communicator as I am today.
During the summer of 2015, I obtained an internship at Psychological Associates. I applied for the Organizational Development Intern position during winter break of 2014. After the assessment and interview process, I was given the opportunity to expand my knowledge in the field. Psychological Associates is located in the heart of Clayton, Missouri where I immediately fell in love with the culture and atmosphere of the company. No matter the organization or level of experience from the C-suite to the front line, Psychological Associates ensures companies are selecting suited employees for particular roles through assessing, developing, and guiding employees at all levels. Since I am pursuing a Ph. D degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, this experience played a critical role in my overall understanding of the profession and enhanced my skills to complement my education thus far.
