West Virginia is known as the "mountain state." It consists of many beautiful lakes, rivers, streams, and quite a few tourist attractions, such as Babcock. Not only that, but West Virginia is made up of several different biomes. West Virginia is also made up of forests, as well. The first biome I would like to talk about is the grassland biome. There are two kinds of grassland biomes; tropic and temperate grasslands. West Virginia is part of the temperate grassland. Sometimes, the temperature can reach up to 100 degrees. In the winter, the temperatures are very cold. Grassland biomes receive between 10 to 30 inches of rain. There are quite a few interesting facts I learned about grassland biomes. One would be that they are located
Many people have different views on what Appalachia is, I grew up thinking that Appalachia meant people were dirty, poor, illiterate, inbreed and we also called them mountain people. As I grew up I realized that most of the things they went through and had a hard time with, I was dealing with the same problems. So what exactly is Appalachia? Well you will find out as you read on.
As a North Carolinian, I did not spend very much time dwelling on the state of West Virginia. To me, it was a state that not many people paid attention to. It kind of just did its own thing without anyone thinking twice about it. It wasn’t until when I was deciding where to go to school that West Virginia was formally introduced to me. Contacted by the Women’s Lacrosse coach, I visited and promptly fell in love with the University of Charleston but it was nothing I was expecting from West Virginia. When I began to tell people that I was going to school in WV, I was flooded with opinions. Every friend of mine I’ve told, gave me the same or similar response: “doesn’t everyone have sex with their cousins up there?” Now I would be lying if I hadn’t thought of that once or twice about it but that was only the tip of the iceberg when it came to my perceptions of the state.

The Governor of Georgia is trying to get rid of historical sites in Georgia, to save money. I think that there are some she should rethink about and keep, but the most important one is Cloudland Canyon. This beautiful state park has some of the best views you could see in the state.
The grasslands can have very different climates than other places and there can also be just one climate throughout the year. The grasslands have really hot summers and really cold
The american prairie starts in Manitoba and goes down through the Great Plains, into Mexico and Texas. They are all near the Rocky Mountains. These Prairies cover around 1.4 million miles of land. Because of the mountains, it has more rain around them rather than the prairies. All of the different prairies have distinct climates, the Tall Grass Prairies are known to be the wettest prairies, the Short Grass Prairie is also wet, but not as wet as Tall Grass. The Mixed Prairies are more dry since they are in more sunlight than the others. The prairies all have various climate changes a year, they can have a lot of rain or very little rain at all. Usually, the Prairies have droughts for a while because they just aren't getting any rain. The temperature
Temperate grasslands are located north of the tropical of cancer and south of the tropical of Capricorn. In the middle of North America is a huge area of land, the North America prairie covers much of the central and western part of the US to the Rocky Mountain and spreads into the northern Canada send down to Mexico. The prairies of the Midwestern United States are both tall-grass and short grass. West of the Mississippi River the temperature is moist and humid, in the summers they are warm and humid. Winters are cold but not to extreme. The far west and in the interior of the country, the temperatures became drier. The grass that grows in this part if North America is called big Bluestem grass also known as turkey feet because of its shape,
Kentucky Bluegrass- This most common cool season grass is relatively poor for shady areas and is not suitable for high temperature sites. Requires regular irrigation in such conditions.

Virginia is a great state full beautiful landscapes, incredible lakes, and amazing recreational sites. One of the best places to visit in Virginia is its state parks. There are 36 State Parks in Virginia, all of which are different. Those who frequent the parks bring their family, friends, and love ones to be amongst the foliage and appreciate the wildlife that make its homes within its environment. Visitors can fish, play games, host celebrations, and even prepare food; but with all of that activity there are bound to be issues that can arise. One of the biggest issues that can be created by visitors is litter. According the Department of Health (11 Litter, 2010), “Litter is any kind of rubbish dropped on the ground by people when they are
Virginia is a great place to live! There are gorgeous mountains that are so breathtaking you will want to walk them every day. I recommend the Big Ridge Mountains which are the tallest and prettiest mountains. We have the beautiful Shenandoah Valley to walk around and look at. These two magnificent creations are great reasons to visit America and Virginia in general, but those are not the only reasons to visit. We have warm weather, so you won’t have to worry about freezing. Wait! If we have warm winters, wouldn’t that mean during the summer is the perfect time to grow all of your crops? Heck yeah! If you are a biiiiiig farmer, you will love what’s next. With so many rivers, such as the James, Roanoke, and the York, your crops will flourish,
Respect. Growing up my parents taught me a lot, but respect was the backbone of everything. How can anyone respect me if I do not have respect for them? This concept is rooted deeply inside of me and it is something that I carry with me each and every day. This summer I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to test this concept and see if I would be able to carry it out in the most difficult situations. I went on an immersion trip to West Virginia, which is one of the poorest states in the country. I left for this trip eager to learn and grow as a person and gain an awareness of the problems that many people in our country have to experience everyday, but above all, I was nervous. I was nervous that I would be judgemental and uneasy around
The conversion of grassland to agriculture in the United States has led to the loss of much of the ecosystem services they provide. Some of these services include cycling and moving nutrients, protection and formation of soil, carbon sequestration, protection of surface waters, and habitat for wildlife. One of the major consequences we face from converting grassland for agricultural use is soil erosion. When soil is swept away faster than it can be replenished, the land will eventually become a useless desert. The grassland will not be able to be used for agriculture and it will also not be able to provide any other benefits. Furthermore, the damage could take decades to reverse.
Grasslands are massive areas covered in wild grasses. There are two main types of grasslands: the Savanna and the Temperate Grasslands. Savanna grasslands take up more than one third of Africa’s land. Savanna grasslands are also found in India, South America and Australia. Temperate grasslands can be found in South Africa, Argentina and Central North America. If the grassland is prevented to develop into a forest because of climatic conditions, then it is called a ‘climatic savanna’. If their characteristics are kept by soils then its is called a ‘edaphic savanna’. Sometimes, large animals such as elephants, can constantly disturb the young trees from growing. Human causes, such as farming and bush fires can also prevent grasslands from developing
The Aquatic biome is the most significant out of all of the five biomes. Water is essential and important for life here on Earth. It’s what we all need in order to survive. Water also supports life, and many different species live in it, or for some parts of their life. Since water covers one-thirds of the Earth, the temperature of the aquatic biome tends to be humid and slightly cool. It is fairly constant so it can be able to tolerate life. This region is filled with so many different species of animals some big and some even small. The Aquatic biome is broken into two regions freshwater and marine
