Cirque du Soleil
The show is full of excitement, it keeps you at the edge of your seat, and it grasps your imaginations. It’s not like any other show you’ve seen live. The circus brings to life wonderment only seen in dreams. I’ve only seen a circus in movies, and the acts mainly consist of uniquely appearing people with special talents, clowns, and animal cruelty fueled performances. It intrigued me (not the animal cruelty part of course). Therefore, I got the idea to find a circus that is alive and thriving today. What I found is sensational; Cirque du Soleil. Cirque du Soleil is an entertainment company that was co-founded in the 1984 at Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec, Canada by Gilles Ste-Croix and Guy Laliberté. It was founded as a tour group for Quebec’s 450th anniversary of Jacques Cartier’s discovery of Canada. Before then, the performances were simple; they walked on stilts, juggled, and breathed fire (“Cirque du Soleil”). Today, Cirque du Soleil is known for its high flying acrobatics, death-defying stunts, and extravagant visuals. Their motto is “to invoke the imagination, provoke the senses and evoke the emotions of people around the world,” (Kingsford-Smith). They combine their mesmerizing gymnastic stunts with a theatre like performance that keeps the audience enticed all throughout their shows.

They practice continuously together to perform their acts to perfection. As in the case of Dan Miethke, who explains a day in the life of a Cirque du Soleil performer (a fire-breather.) On the day of a show, he has practice for an hour and a half with his colleagues, in which he arrives about 30 minutes early to warm up. During the practice he works on his show moves that he needs to perfect or works on newer maneuvers that he would like to implement into the show. Then during the show, he has 45 minutes before his jump into the show, so he continues to perfect his
The main purpose of the case study is to incorporate IT into Cirque du Soleil.
The Night Circus shows up without warning. It becomes an instant success. It proves the impossible, possible. It treats all your senses, either with the black and white tents, or the unique caramel scent in the air. It welcomes everyone to get lost in clouds, experience impossible feats by illusionists and acrobats, or stumble upon a more hidden tent with sensations in a bottle.
Vision: Cirque du Soleil is an innovative and creative entertainment industry which focuses on performing various artistic acts for those with a wild imagination. This rapidly growing company creates magic and creativity around the stage which evokes the emotions and imaginations of the people surrounding this magic.
Clowns must really take part on their work and make sure the audience entertains with their performance. Animals is also must have trained from the professional. Stunts performers is also takes part a lot in performing the circus. They should have pros for the stunt man. Acrobat is someone who skillfully performs gymnastic feats or other actions that involve agility and balance.
Awe-inspiring feats of acrobatic prowess and a comical relationship established with an audience, unveiled by performers tied through a trusting friendship, would assuredly “catch” most spectator’s gaze. On the evening of October 10th, Flip Fabrique’s witty cast summersaulted across Eisenhower Auditorium’s stage, delivering a contemporary circus production with an edge. The daring acts performed by Jérémie Arsenault, Bruno Gagnon, Christophe Hamel, Françis Julien, Hugo Ouellet Côté and Jade Dussault intermix traditional circus acrobatics, trampoline, juggling, and rope routines with a “New Kids on the Block” ambiance. Furthermore, each artist exclusively contributes unique elements to the show by eliciting playfulness, tugging at heart-strings and evoking captivating reactions from
It would appear that many rehearse their performance, allowing themselves to correct any flaws in their performance before giving it.
Imagine men on stilts who juggle, performing mimes, and dancing fire breathers who performed for the streets of Baie-Saint-Paul in Quebec, Canada. These performers would later become known as Cirque du Soleil (Cirque du Soleil). However, these performers would not be known by this name until much later in time. Originating on the streets Cirque du Soleil started out as a group of street performers called, “Club des Talons Hauts,” or the, “High-Heels Club,” since most of its members performed on stilts (Encyclopedia). Soon the club wanted to branch out and learn more about street performances, and thus organized a festival where people could learn new techniques called: Fâte Foraine de Baie St-Paul ( Baie St-Paul Fair). This would be the
Cirque du Soleil ("Circus of the Sun") is a Canadian entertainment company, self-described as a "dramatic mix of circus arts and street entertainment." Based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and located in the inner-city area of Saint-Michel, it was founded in Baie-Saint-Paul in 1984 by two former street performers, Guy Laliberté and Gilles Ste-Croix.
Background: Cirque du Soleil was the first ever circus group that evolved its self to the commercial world by introducing the simple but innovative and unique concept of combining the traditional circus acts with opera, dance, theatre and live music. Cirque du Soleil ensured success by executing the concept to the point of perfection. Excellent choreography and amazing pyrotechnics were the backbone of their success. The experience of a Cirque du Soleil show is considered to be as one of the most awaited and valued entertainment experience by people all around the world.
The flips, the dips, the falls, the ropes, the trampolines. These are all qualities of the most popular circus in the whole entire world. They call it Cirque Du Soleil which is French for “Circus of the Sun.” On July 7, 1984, Cirque started by two street performers in Quebec. They traveled to the U.S for the first time in 1967, creating their first permanent show right here in Las Vegas, Nevada; called Mystere, and is still going strong to this day. It also led to even more permanent shows including, Beatles LOVE, O, Zumanity, and more. After Vegas, Cirque Du Soleil took over Asia, Europe, and South America with a series of new creations that tour the world in large arenas or under the big top. 33 years later, cirque has shows in every continent except for Antarctica.
With possibly one of the biggest companies known worldwide started off as a small performance group full of street performers of 73 people. Cirque du Soleil is a show out to dazzle and completely redesign the idea of the traditional circus. It was owned by two men until owner, Laliberte bought the other owners share. The idea is that they will “never go public” to reduce the dilution of multiple shareholders or possibly being overrun by a hostile takeover. In the late 1980’s there were artist rebellions against the management and this is when Cirque had decided their artists are the most important part of the show. No matter where they go, their artists are number one and they are out to please. The biggest rationalization Cirque had was their decentralization of their Head Quarters. Through job analysis they considered it would be best if they were to create multiple locations that would control different sectors as to where they would host shows; Asia, Europe and North American. It became a quick problem and created the fear of going corporate as according the artists.
Cirque du Soleil is known for gravity-defying, seemingly impossible stunts. When watching the incredible acrobatic performances, the audience usually forgets that the performers risk their lives almost every show. A show apart of Cirque du Soleil is Kà, it goes down as the most expensive theatrical showing ever created. With a budget of $165 million, it has some of the most incredible technical elements one will ever see. Along with these elements come danger. The show has seen a number of accidents throughout the run and in June of 2013 came the death of Sarah Guillot-Guyard. Guillot-Guyard was an acrobat that died as a result of her wire rope breaking.
Visual art is a very popular art form in the world. It can be seen almost anywhere. One of the most popular forms of visual art is stage shows such as those that one would see on Broadway or at Cirque du Soleil. Cirque du Soleil shows have been recognized around the world for their beauty, intricacy, spellbinding acts, international talent, and ability to leave an audience with a great lasting impression. Cirque du Soleil’s latest production entitled “Amaluna (which premiered on April 19th, 2012)” is very unique compared to many of the Cirque shows. The show was inspired by a play by Williams Shakespeare entitled “The Tempest.” The show was directed by a
“Cirque du Soleil is a multifaceted creative workforce” encompassing “imaginary worlds, art forms from around the world, acting, acrobatic performance, dance, daring, dexterity, and grace” (Cirque du Soleil, 2010). Putting together the right workforce to achieve this result is not necessarily an easy feat. This paper will explore the recruitment decision-making process for attracting job candidates (demand) from the available labor force (supply). Cirque du Soleil (CdS) is in the same position all other organizations are in – they must be able to attract a sufficient number of prospective employees (candidates) with the abilities and aptitudes (knowledge, skills and abilities) needed to
The third case study presents Le Noir. It is an Australian based circus company. It is a contemporary circus that features aerial acts, musicians, acrobats, balancing and the wheel of death. The concept of Le Noir is based on the best performers in the world gather to create an intimate style show where the audience is inches away watching the performance on stage. Part of the concept is to make the audience experience the show with the help of special effects ("Le Noir”).
