Daily we see those mini-size cute toy poodles jumping around, the tall and slim Doberman Pinscher staring acutely into distant place, or the pure white Samoyed sticking his tongue out with a natural, angel-like smile. Dogs are everywhere now; they are the best friends of humans. But do we really understand them? In Alexander Horowitz’s book Inside of a Dog, she explains how dogs’ senses, particularly smell, differ from humans’ in ways we may never think about. People utilize the main sense of dogs, its smell, for their own interest, but they also take for granted by perceiving it with their own unwelt, so often interfere with dogs’ navigation through the world.
For millions of years dogs have remained a constant companion of man. Bred from the aggressive and formidable Gray Wolf tens of thousands of years ago the domestic dog now lives in many homes across the world. Where in the far distant past the domestic dog was bred as a guard animal, a beast of burden, and even a food source the dogs of today are bred for a far more endearing purpose-companionship and love. Finding a pet dog that is more of a joy than a chore is necessary when asking: How much is that puppy in the window?
Dogs are not just cute and fuzzy friends. Since it has been thousands of years that dogs have been trained to do things for humans, we can now count on dogs to do very specific jobs. For example, the article from the U.S. Department of Justice says, “Service animals are defined as dogs that are

Before cutlery and napkins had come into the world, people would use them to wipe their greasy hands on after an evening meal, and afterward, when they went to bed, on a cold winter night, the owners would make the dogs lie on their feet to keep them warm. The Kings of Europe, to avoid poisoning, wouldn't eat until the dog ate some of the food on their plate. On Lewis and Clark's exploration of the new world, their trusty companion, a big black dog named Seaman, saved their lives by chasing away a buffalo that was trying to stampede their camp. In modern times, dogs are used in the armed forces to sniff out bombs on a war field, sniff out missing people from the rubble of a natural disaster, and there are also police dogs used to sniff out drugs, food, and even people. Bark, bark, bark was all I heard walking towards the ARC amphitheater. When my friend and I arrived we seen the Que Dogs walking towards the stage stepping and chanting. At that moment we knew that the show would be sensational. I chose to go to this event because I had always been curious of fraternities and sororities. This was the first yard show I had ever seen, besides the ones in the movies.
Many will say the role of the dog has changed within the past fifty years, but has it? The answer is yes. Although there are still many similarities such as keeping a dog as a companion, buying a purebred, and veterinary care, but time has created astounding differences. Back in the 1960’s Dr. Maurice Eastridge and his family owned a purebred border collie and various mutts. The border collie had the life of a modern dog, filled with table scraps and kibble, and of course lots of love. This seemed common even back then. The real zinger is the life of the various owned mutts Dr. Eastridge owned compared to other interviewees of that time, Jim Creely and Debbie Meadow. Dr. Eastridge’s mutts were strictly left outside and not allowed inside,

Dogs are man’s best friend, except when they drive you crazy, like creating a mess in your house and barking excessively. For example there is one breed of dog that has the best sense of smell in the entire world and they were created for one job and one job only. Klim Sulimov explains what dog this is and how it was formed on the Science of Dogs, “The Sulimov dog has the best sense of smell in the whole entire world, and they were successfully created to identify explosives, he bred a Jackal with a Lapland Herding Hound, a Reindeer Herding Hound, a Fox Terrier, and a Spitz. Creating a dog that is highly trainable dog and a superior snout”. All these hybrid breeds are so successful because of how the dogs DNA is formed. The discovery of deciphering the dog genome was discovered by the Researchers at the National Institutes of Health on The Science of Dogs “Every piece of DNA is made up of four different chemical components
