Good Evening, It was brought to my recent attention that there was some tormenting happening around this school. We all know that the world isn’t a perfect world, but quite evil sometimes. However, we can work together and create a safe environment in this school. I have a question for you: what is the cruelest thing in this world? Do you think about war, death, rape or robbery? These answers are all correct, I won’t disagree, yet in my opinion, I will say bullying is on top of the list. Bullying makes teenagers feel inferior, depressed, worthless, and fearless. Can you imagine going to school every day fearing what might happen? Can you imagine having to drop out because you can’t take it anymore, or taking the worst case out; suicide? …show more content…
This situation won’t stop unless we put a stop towards it. Let’s be the school where it doesn’t matter how we look, how we dress, or what we like. I want our school to be unique. Where we value differences. I need you all to be honest. Why bring someone down? Does it help your self-esteem if you call them stupid, ugly, a loser or a loner? Some might say words are just words. Yet, for some people, words mean a thousand things, and it will take them a lifetime to get over it. Have you ever thought that you aren’t the only one with feelings or frights in this world? When I was younger I was a chubby girl, with big black glasses and acne all around my face. It became even worse when I had to use an orthodontic headgear. I recall going to school, and just wanting the ground to swallow me up. Wherever I went people followed me with their stares. Walking in the hallways I could see people pointing at me, and laughing with their friends. You know what I felt? Like I didn’t belong. Sickness was my way out. Fake stomachaches, headaches, and coughs were my way to skip school. Never did I have a friend who would tell me I was beautiful just the way I am. That it doesn’t matter how I look from the outside, but from the inside. That I had a pure heart and that’s what
Bullying is one of the leading causes in teen suicide today. People bullied in the past or present have been studied and it has shown that they have a lower quality of life. Though they have a lower quality of life, the have better physical and mental health. (“Seaman” 1). Studies have shown that most bullying happens in middle school and high school. There is bullying in elementary school but it is minimal and less serious (“Bullying Statistics” 1). Most kids refuse to speak up while being bullied in fear that the bully will just taunt them more (“Cyber-Safety Act” 2). Bullying has become a very serious issue regarding our society today.
It is time, at last, to speak the truth about what bullying is and how it affects us as human beings and our development. It is unfortunate but seemingly an inevitable human activity. It has been scattered
Have you ever been a target of an individual’s cruelty and hatred? It does not necessarily have to be physical, but more like being verbally degraded or publicly humiliated. The effects bullying can have on its victims is something that may last throughout their lives, or something that may end their life(Braithwaite, Hyde, Pope, 2010).We all are well aware of childhood bullying but as evidence shows bullying does not stop on the
Bullying has become more of an issue that is threatening our younger generation today. Bullying is becoming more of a vicious act in public schools throughout the United States (Coloroso, 2003; Felix & McMahon, 2006). There are many adverse effects that are caused by this disgraceful act. The average school-age child is silently or overtly tormented on a daily basis. Many of these students who experience bullying feel that they have no one to talk to, or that they have no where to go. The motives that the bullies take can cause harmful and even devastating results. In today’s society, bullying provokes emotional, social, and cognitive distress in the
“You sound like a white boy! Why do you talk like that?” said one kid. “You sound like a gay boy! Why do you sound like a girl!” another one said. “Haha, aren’t you gay or something?” mocked another. Those words from my fellow classmates ripped through my ears. The echoes of their unruly and harsh words were always screeched on the playground. I was only in the third grade when I started getting teased and bullied for my voice, my weight, the way I spoke and the things I loved. My greatest challenge I’ve ever had to overcome was accepting myself and learning to love who I am.
“Nationwide, one out of four students from the ages twelve to eighteen have been bullied. That is twenty five percent to the teenage/young adult population and these numbers are continuously to rise every day” (Wassdorp, Bradshaw, and Leaf 116, 149-156). Bullying is the action of repeated harmful acts or harassing another in various forms. Many situations fall under one or even multiple of these categories: physical, verbal, indirect, and cyber. What this does is strips the victim down from their identity and leaves them to pity themselves for being the way they are. Bullying is an issue in this nation because it tears apart the teenage/young adult population, and it is causing an increase in risk of suicide among these groups. Bullying is
Bullying has become a major issue in the United States and around the world. What brought the attention to people about bullying is the number of suicides that are committed by adolescents and the stories they share online or live television. Bullying is categorized to be direct verbal, direct physical, and indirect forms. Not every person has an idea how terrible bullying can be and how harmful it is to the victim. Bullying has driven students to commit actions they have never done before such as cutting themselves, suicidal thoughts, health disorders, and bad behavior. Bullying must be taken seriously, because it results in negative effects on its victims and may drive students to commit horrific actions. Lawmakers should draft anti-bullying legislation, students should stand up for one another, and society should work out what can be done to combat this problem.
By maintaining a facade of “normalcy”, I became instantly popular, and I gained influence that I had never thought possible. Girls looked to me for advice on everything from boys to hairstyles, and I reveled in my “superiority”. Thus, when sixth grade arrived, I was a bully; I became the people who had tormented me. I was deliberately vicious, ridiculing anyone who didn’t fit the impossible standard I used to hide my insecurities. I slashed people down and used their broken pieces to repair myself. The girl I had been seemed permanently lost to the monster I had become-until Julia.
Bullying is an undesirable, antagonistic conduct among not only school aged children but also adults. People who are bullied may have serious and long-term problems. Bullying has become more prominent throughout the years, increasing the suicide rate in the U.S. to 24.5% since 2003. (Hey U.G.L.Y, 2006) This results in approximately 160,000 individuals stay home from school or work each day because they are afraid or feel threatened by bullies. (Hey U.G.L.Y, 2006) Approximately 4,400 lives are lost each year due to bullying. (Hey U.G.L.Y, 2006) A nationwide survey was done throughout public schools and private schools in 2014 to find out how many students actually considered suicide due to bullying. (Hey U.G.L.Y, 2006) 15% of students reported
Bullying is an emotionally draining issue prominent across the world today. Bullying is unacceptable, and there are many, if not several movements in an effort to end bullying once and for all. Throughout the course of this essay, I am going to discuss the issue of bullying, and formulate an argument towards the issue at hand. In this argument, I will show my support in the fight against bullying. A lot of things have changed throughout the course of time; however, it is still prominent throughout the world today. Bullying is inhumane, and needs to end; what do you think? Do you think the fights against bullying are effective? Do you all think that
I hated my body growing up. My nearly 6-foot frame made it awkward to fit in with my classmates, as I towered over a majority of my peers and teachers at the tender age of twelve. If my height did not distract them, my massive build did, as the chorus of “Whale” and “Lard” was uttered behind my back multiple times per week. Notes soon began pouring into my locker full of vicious and vile words that no twelve-year-old should recognize. Full of the appalling and disgusting acts they wished to enforce on me, because of my size. At this point in my life, I felt trapped. A Prisoner in my body condemned to a lifelong sentence of odd looks, harsh whispers, and strange glances. My School's personal freak show.
Bullying in American schools has become an underrated topic to converse about. It is a worldwide problem that can have negative consequences for the general school climate and for the right of students to learn in a safe environment without fear. Throughout Elementary schools, students are taught about bullying more than any other grade school. 282,000 students are physically attacked in secondary schools each month. As generations have evolved, kids in all schools get bullied rapidly and are afraid to report it. They feel they have no one to go to and situations like this can ruin a young life. Students can start bullying at a young age and stay consistent through until they graduate. Young people commit suicide due to being bullied in American schools. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year according to the CDC.
Specific Purpose: To persuade people to stop the bullying and help the people that are dealing with it.
Many people do not realize how serious bullying has become. If you look at statistics suicides due to bullying have increased over just a few short years. This has become a very big problem for not only the victim but the bully as well as it affect both of them. School bullying is mentally destructive to not only the victims, but bullies because of the harmful words, harassment, and physical violence involved as well as the consequences for the bully.
Good Morning/Afternoon fellow class mates, the issue that I have come to share and talk about with you today is Bullying. It is all around us, everyone bullies, no matter what you think or have done, you’ve most likely bullied someone.
