Each of these group sessions will be conducted at an inpatient psychiatry facility. The group will meet for 1 hour once a week for six weeks. To secure patient privacy, most of the groups, except for the “What’s Cookin’?” session, the group will be facilitated in the occupational therapy room, free of noise and other distractions. The group will require 9 chairs and a table spacious enough for 9 people to work on some crafts and writing tasks. Good lighting and optimal room temperature are also required to successfully run the group. Doors will remain open so that nurses, doctors, and other medical staff have easy access to the members in case of emergency. In addition, a phone that is easy to access must all be present for safety purposes.
There are guidelines and on the job training for almost every career you can think of. The medical field is no different than those jobs in that respect, but in nursing there are policies and procedures that must be followed. At Crouse Hospital, each employee is given a set of Crouse Hospital Policy and Procedure Manual, which they must abide by. One of the most difficult patient responsibilities is dealing with people with a mental disorder. In Crouse Hospital’s link to Policy and Procedure I located “Patients Presenting in Emergency Department with Psychiatric Conditions”.

During my psychiatric clinical rotation at Carney Hospital I had the opportunity to help run group therapy’s where I was able to understand some of the patients better. During this time I was also able to learn more about my patient F.S. The patient is a fifty-two-year-old divorced Chinese woman with a lengthy history of bipolar disorder and a persistent associative history of schizophrenia and attempts at suicide. The patient has one daughter that is 24 years old who noticed F.S. was throwing her pills down the toilet and hiding them in her pockets so she didn’t have to take them. . During her admission, the patient displayed increased levels of incredible energy and mood activities, an approach that was thought to have been instigated by the worsening of her health condition.

Psychiatry is a type of science that involves mental illnesses and diagnosing the patient's’ mental, and sometimes physical, health. Psychiatrists are doctors that are trained to diagnose mental illnesses, and spot mental, emotional and behavioral symptoms. They work with their patients, listening to their stories, and performing tests in order to find out what, if any, mental illnesses or cognitive disorders. The median annual salary for a psychiatrist is around $200,000.
My first week of inpatient psych unit experience was great. I had a lot of experience with patients and staff by learning new skills and participating in community group discussion. I also had a experience to talk with each patient and able to check vital sign of each patient. I also had good experiences on identify each patient by their name and checking safety check on each patient every 15 minutes was good experience of inpatient psych unit in my first week.
Overall, I think Randy (the interpreter) did a great job. He missed a couple of words in the translations. For example, the therapist stated “have you ever received behavioral health treatment in an outpatient clinic, RTC, or hospital. Randy never mentioned hospital, and his translation might have mixed-up outpatient clinic and RTC since he stated “… como paciente external en un RTC o una clinica donde la gente se queda largo tiempo.
The process of running a group therapy session is a unique time to tests a person’s skills abilities when it comes to facilitating that group. This paper will mainly look at ways when it comes to my learning's of this class that I took ways; I will also show examples and skills to run a good group therapy session. This whole paper is a reflection of the many things that I took was on being an active group counselor facilitator.
Renee's idea of Psychiatry was to spend a few hours each day in the Psych unit, make a few remarks about how lucky he was to have such a good student like Bernard taking care of his patients, and retreat to his abode on the Champs a la Roosevelt Boulevard for an evening of French wine and great thoughts. Luckily, Dr. Bill was aware of the situation and made himself available to Bernie whenever the Big One needed help.
A half hour at the beginning and end of each day for us to write down something that has been bothering us, something that makes us happy or something we feel we’ve accomplished. After the half hour of writing, we have 15 minutes to share with each other what we have written. We don’t change rooms for group therapy and the two seem to flow together.
A location and time for the program’s meeting must be established, as well as the frequency of meetings. When choosing a location, it’s important to make sure that there will be privacy, comfort, and no distractions. The location must be appropriate for the size of the group. With such a large target audience, it will be necessary to have several different groups. The groups can be separated by grade, with about 20 – 25 students in each group. These groups would meet during their health classes during school hours, but without regular teachers and/or administrators in the rooms, so that the adolescents feel comfortable.
My first experience in the psychiatric clinical rotation appears a real learning experience. I enjoy the clinical more than I expect. The first day was very scary I wondered how I can deal with these people. The second day I was in the chemical unit I talked to them, played basketball with them it was fun, and I had another perspective on them. I Participated in many group therapy, which is an excellent opportunity for the patients to express their feelings and get advice from the therapist. First time taking part in a group I felt strange at the beginning but at the end, I got the idea.
My vision for the future of psychiatric care includes patients who can become embedded in the planning of their care. Offering patients with many choices can empower them and give them a sense of self-worth. In an inpatient setting patients should have several groups to choose from instead of the regimented schedule that many so often have. Technology can help streamline a nurse’s workload when it comes to charting and doing admissions so they can spend more time doing educational groups with their patients. Developing a streamlined process needs to happen in order to make this vision a reality. As a nurse with an advanced degree I would work with nursing informatics majors to develop systems that allow nurses to chart fluidly and quickly so they can spend more time with their patients.
The subject of my presence is the separation of psychiatric patients in the Netherlands. Separating is the isolation of a patient in a specially designed (stimulus-free and safe) space with the aim of protecting the patient and / or his environment. The reason for separation is often aggression that arises from the patient's psychiatric condition (eg a psychosis). Separation falls under the category of 'compulsory treatment', which means that this is done against the will of the patient. A legal framework is required for this, and when separating a voluntarily-admitted patient, a so-called Detention Claim (IBS) must be requested.
