This year, I investigated several students on student crimes that occurred on campus. Most of the cases were easily solved and were mainly misunderstandings. With being on campus, I was able to take the time to meet with students and talk about the cases. Several of the situations we were able to be resolved through mediations. This helped ease the situations and prevented them from escalating into more serious criminal matters.
As a student affairs practitioner I believe I am a cornerstone of the higher education experience. I have made it my mission to help students be the best version of themselves for the benefit of not only them, but of society at large. I work to help create not only educated students, but also engaged members of a global society.
I have been a lifelong learner and have an extensive academic background and the knowledge of teaching history and social studies. Additionally, I continue take courses in the core subject areas, math, science, and English to expand my knowledge and provide in-depth instruction. I have traveled extensively through military service with several
Pursuing something new is fun and exciting, especially if the pursuit positively impacts someone else. I am grateful for the opportunity to re-enter grad school, this time at the doctorate level, to realize a dream that I’ve had since the
I was the activities director and as activities director, I executed and supervised extracurricular activities, programs, and field trips. I created and designed promotional materials for all activities, wrote and published school newsletters, and managed social media content. Being an adolescent in this position, gave me a better insight on what the students desired and I, in turn, gave the students a greater experience in that area. I will take that drive, determination, and experience, and everything I learned from it and apply it to my schoolwork and my overall college
There I stood, without a college degree, inside the office of my supervisor, an astute college professor, and the Department’s Chairperson. I left the Law School (in March 1998) and got a new job upon main campus. I worked inside the School of Education, Department of Educational Administration & Policy (EAP) at Howard University. I worked as the only liaison between graduate students, the Department Chairperson, and seven other faculty professors.
The district beefed up the professional development for new teachers, especially those in the ARL program. Doing so has helped expand teachers capabilities which in turn increases their capacity in the school. In order for a school to be successful in reaching their mission,
Consistently earned positive verbal/written feedback from faculty and students regarding classroom instruction and student learning success and even assisted one entire class to achieve a minimum B grade (see LinkedIn for reviews)
Participated as a mentor and leader to incoming high school freshmen by supporting academic success and character development.
When reviewing our data at Lake Oconee Academy (LOA) , over the past few years, the LOA data team has identified a relative weakness in our science and social studies scores as student reach the end of their elementary years into the beginning of their middle school years. As we reflect back over the past few years, we have begun to realize that professional development has been given to teachers in English Language Arts, writing, and mathematics; but we have failed to offer any professional development opportunities in the areas of science and social studies. As we have discussed this topic future, we have begun to identify weaknesses amongst of staff, curriculum, and teacher-preparation programs. Primary teachers at LOA, Kindergarten through second grade, have reported that during their undergraduate coursework there were provided no instruction in the areas of science and social studies. These teachers participated in mathematics courses, reading courses, and language courses; but failed to receive any instruction in science and social studies. Teachers are expected in all grade
Four years ago, I walked onto Florida State University’s campus unaware of the trials and tribulations that lie ahead. My excitement became overpowered by the fear of starting a new journey all while attempting to find myself, my dreams and my future. As I reflect on the experiences that I have encountered through the leadership, service and international engagement areas, I have seen immiscible growth in myself as a student and a leader. The Garnet and Gold Scholar Society program has provided me with interpersonal, critical- thinking and project management skills that are necessary for post-graduation and every-day life; along with much more. With the passion, authentic leadership, humility in serving and acceptance of diversity that I have gained, I will say goodbye to these four years excited to take on the new journey’s that lie ahead.
As a first year student, I quickly found my niche by joining an on-campus student leadership group called the Programming and Activities Board (PAB). PAB was a student leadership group that worked on establishing community on campus by planning and coordinating on-campus student events. It was here that I had the opportunity to work and interact with the student affairs office and really understand how building community and developing a student’s leadership ability can really transform a student
In addition, when I served at the Student Engagement Coordinator I was responsible for planning community service programming at Linfield College. I created all the promotional materials for the events including flyers, newsletters, and informational documents.
At my ongoing placement year at KPMG, I was recently assigned as the In-charge for a group of three summer undergraduate interns from the months of June – August 2016. My role included acting as a guide to the new recruits, showing them the ropes of the various functionalities of the unit, and being their first point of contact in case of any issues or challenges that may arise at work. This was a very good experience that gave me an insight on leadership in the professional environment, and also gave me the chance to see the importance of not only to be a “teacher” in a position of leadership but also the relevance of being a “student” as well. At university, I had the opportunity to be the Treasurer of the FXU chapter of Enactus, a society
