Instructions Not Included Imagine, it is a sunny day and the light reflects off of the surrounding sea and onto an ideal beach home. Nothing but beautiful people, sunshine, and good times. But alas good times do not always last as next comes a blast from the past so powerful it is still felt 8 years into the future! If all those images have been conjured up in the viewer’s mind, then you have the basic plot to this foreign film ‘Instructions Not Included’. But wait there is more I promise. Firstly, I would like to say that overall the film by all standards was not at all bad. When one thinks of a foreign film you might think of a really bad, poorly edited, or low funded film. With the major reason for it being foreign, the obvious reason being that it was not made in Hollywood. However, this movie takes all of the preconceptions about foreign films and turns it upside down. With a budget of nearly 5 million dollars (Instructions), and only being filmed in two locations in Mexico the movies overall quality is actually quite astounding. Furthermore, I would like to commend the directors and editors on doing Hollywood level job, creating and making the final product as it is better then something you might see in a low budget jaws knock off made here in the United States. Secondly I would like to write something of a quick summary so that the movie can be better understood. The movie begins as many do as of late with a man, or to be more specific a bachelor. Of course
The movie centered on Katie Morosky (Barbra Streisand) and Hubbell Gardiner(Robert Redford) who were passionate lover irrespective of their differences in political views and ideologies. Right at the opening scene of the movie we are greeted with a view of two men waking up in bed together. The room paints a very blunt picture of the nature of the owner. It is decorated with paintings of flowers and the colors are all very light and pastel. I was instantly under the assumption that at least one of these two men would be very feminine. Instantly, I was made aware of which of the two it would be. The older gentleman was covering himself all the way up to his chest, this is something many women do instinctively in order to cover up their breasts. On the other hand, the other man begins to get dressed in a hurry and it is easy to see that he presents himself a lot more masculine. He carries himself aggressively and leaves the older of the two in bed while taking money from his wallet without asking. It is completely unspoken throughout the scene yet the silent actions makes it seem as if the younger is in a secret gay relationship and wants to hurry out.
The movie starts off by introducing a man named Kenehan who is coming to the town of Matewan. He was the organizer for the united mine workers and helps form the union. He portrayed the right approach by believing that violence will only weaken their cause. Baldwin-Felts men, Hickey, and Griggs enters the town to start a campaign against the miners. From here, there is already a set status of the powerful and the minority. The tension is further inflamed where one of the miners was tortured and killed because he did not name five union miners when asked by the authority figure. This eventually leads to a climatic gunfight between the

Large bubbles float on the open white walls providing windows into tropical landscapes made distant and mystical behind the film reflecting the texture of those gelatin cakes on platters. Details are evident but lost among the thick, misty layers of resin. The viewer sees the intricacy of it all but the artist withholds the clarity of a simple, familiar scene. The worlds are submerged under they own sea in a preserved moment.
The movie begins with Don Lockwood, a very popular silent film star and his leading lady Lina Lamont. It is required by their studio to become romantically involved in order to increase their film's popularity. Although this romance is one-sided on Lina side, Don goes along with the ruse.
