Integration of Faith – Nehemiah
The book of Nehemiah teaches us how God can help us recover from our past and find strength in God. Nehemiah just like a project manager would come up with a, “plan, schedule, motivate, and control” (Business) the reconstruction of the walls in Jerusalem. “Nehemiah provides a remarkable example of a servant leader motivated by, and acting for, God's ends: God's glory and the good of those served. It also provides an example of the use of godly means: the pursuit of excellence in leadership and management and a passionate focus upon achieving desirable results” (Maciariello, 2003). We all can learn from Nehemiah’s great leadership abilities and how he accomplished the rebuilding of the wall. Nehemiah was the son of Hacaliah, who showed great leadership. Nehemiah was “a man who was sent by the king of Persia to govern Judah. His main task was to rebuild the walls surrounding Jerusalem so as to provide security, a sense of identity, and protection for the people of the city who had returned from Babylonian captivity” (Maciariello, 2003).

Nehemiah 1:4 tells us, “So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven” (NKJV). Nehemial encountered many Israelites who had turned away from God and had become coldhearted. It took a strong leader like Nehemiah to help motivate the Israelites to help rebuild the walls in Jerusalem. God needed a Project Manager and that is just what he found in Nehemiah. God needed someone who had the, “knowledge to make decisions” (Business) and to “orchestrate the completion of the project by inducting the right people, at the right time, to address the right issues and make the right decisions” (Business). Nehemiah was the right
In the book “Blazer Drive” by Sigmund Brouwer, there are many signs of the theme being perseverance. Josh Ellroy is trying to find out who took his family's prized possession bull worth $150,000 and at the same time play with a bad linemate, well trying to be good enough to make the Sabers. Josh had to show perseverance for finding the bulls, dealing with a bad teammate, and showing the Buffalo Sabres that he is good enough to make the team. Josh was able to solve his problems through perseverance and achieve big things. Josh lives on a ranch farm with his family and one day they noticed 18 bulls and their prized possession bull that’s worth $150,000 went missing.
In the documentary “Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero,” a number of people were interviewed about how their religious beliefs or non beliefs, were challenged since the events of September 11th. The interviews with priests, rabbis, family members of victims, survivors, lay people, atheists and agnostics, this documentary explores how Americans’ spiritual lives may have changed since the event. When a tragic event happens, people would either grow closer to god or outgrow god. To those people who do not believe in a god, these actions will just prove their beliefs. In the beginning of the film, people immediately started to question God. Some of them started to question why would a god so mighty approve this kind of actions. Dr. Michael Brescia, who is a physician who saw pictures of people jumping off the building, "I wonder how many of them thought if there was a God. And if there was a God, why me? Why this? And where am I going to go?” This kind of questions always come up when something catastrophic happens. Others, however, did not ask any questions and just accepted what has happened. Kim Coleman, who lost her daughter said, “God knows something I don’t, God knows best and knows better than we do.” There were also a couple of people who were not so sure what to think of god anymore. Rev. Joseph Griesedieck, a priest who volunteered at Ground Zero said, “the face of God was a blank slate for me. God couldn't be counted on in the way that I thought God could be
The Book of Nehemiah is narrative that continues the history of the Israelites after they return from exile. Nehemiah prays to God about Jerusalem and God’s promises. Nehemiah is sent from Babylon to Jerusalem where he inspects Jerusalem’s walls. Different sections were rebuilt by different groups of people. Through prayer, they were able to complete the rebuilding even when there was opposition. Nehemiah helped the poor by summoning the priests to make the nobles and officials take an oath to follow God’s law. A genealogical record is listed of the exiles who returned. Ezra read The Book of the Law to the Israelites. The Israelites prayed to God and confessed their sins and signed the Law of God. The Levites were brought to
In this narrative we meet three women who come from different walks of life. Each one of them has a different religion, but they all have one thing in common. That is that they all have children and want to explain to them about their different religions, especially after the September 11, 2001 attacks as many children had questions and were left perplexed.
Advertisements are an important vehicle designed to promote or help sell a product, service or idea (Young, 2014, p.35). As a dimension of IMC, advertising is “…most often associated with offenses that attract attention from critics and regulators alike” (Young, 2014, p.34). This can be
Nehemiah and Ezra were instrumental in trying to persuade the people back to the teachings of God. “God’s work demands all that we have, and sometimes challenges us to go beyond what we think we are capable of doing” (Arnold & Beyer, 2008, p. 266).They uplifted their spirits by providing them the covenant laws of Moses and helping them rebuild the temple. “Now the rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple servants and all those who had separated themselves from the peoples of the
My father and uncles’ instilled a statement in my head from a young age that I will never forget. This statement is closely related to the Law of Legacy and very relevant to being a leader in the modern business world. The statement only consists of a few words, but these words are very powerful and if this statement is followed, your reputation as a leader will be respected and hopefully emulated. The statement is, “Lead by example, do what is right, be the best you can be, and treat others the way you would like to be treated.”
In verses 4-5 Nehemiah called out to the Lord against the people who are showing opposition. Nehemiah asked the Lord to punish the opposition for trying to stop the Lord’s plan and discouraging his people. The wall was built to half the height, and the surrounding nations were encouraged to work before the enemy started to affect the building. All of these enemies conspired to come against Jerusalem because the breaches within the walls had been closed and they no longer had control over Jerusalem (Neh 4:4-8).
Nehemiah the Israelite leader displays numerous traits of a Servant Leader in the biblical book, Nehemiah. Nehemiah sets out on a quest to rebuild the city of Jerusalem and the wall that surrounds his beloved home. During this time, he encounters many obstacles and will overcome all roadblocks put in front of him. This paper will provide an analysis of two significant events, building the wall around Jerusalem and organizing Jerusalem’s people to rebuild the city.
King David, a member of the tribe of Judah was chosen by God to lead his people. As everyone knows, he proved by his wise choices to be a very effective leader. As a great military strategist David united the tribes and extended the national boundaries so that in his time Israel enjoyed a greater fraction of
The nation of Israel was set apart as holy to the LORD. But they When the children of Israel demanded a king, they did so to be like the other nations. The first three kings were Saul, (outwardly tall, handsome and strong—a seemingly good choice for a king, but inwardly arrogant, proud and unrepentant—not God’s choice), David (a man after God’s own heart who repented of his sins and as such was God’s choice), and Solomon (the wisest man who ever lived, but because of covenant disobedience became the catalyst for the division and ultimate exile of Israel.
Propaganda is defined in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as ‘the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person’.
The Israelites have been granted permission by King Cyrus of Persia to return home to Judah for the restoration of their homeland. This was a devastating time for the people of Judah because of the destruction by invading armies. Several people and leaders died because of these invading armies and now it was time to rebuild Jerusalem. The Israelites were coming out of captivity and they were exposed to pagan gods and rituals. Many of them did not have a relationship with God and now the temple needed to be rebuilt. The general prophetic message was to encourage the Israelites and empowered them to take the limits off God because nothing is impossible for him. Zechariah noticed the natural things were being done concerning building the
One of King Solomon strengths were being responsible for building the first temple located in Jerusalem. It took him several years to complete this mission however; he was committed to God and illustrated a level of wisdom that God bestowed upon him due to his obedience. My beliefs of this type of commitment are that God granted him specific skills to allow him to be knowledgeable to build and oversee this mission. King Solomon desired for the people of the Israel descendants to pray or repent for God to accept their apology for their shortcoming or sins and those they would try to serve him in a more heartfelt manner. Their belief of these modifications within their lifestyle would have permitted them to hear from God and only he could forgive their sins. For example, he could basically wipe the slate clean removing the people of Israel’s sins away. His purpose was to strive to help the upcoming creation of the people within this region, so they could have a more abundance lifestyle. In analyzing this concept God was displaying the quality of life and his ability to have power to bless people with a productive lifestyle as long as they followed his instruction and was obedient.
Joshua was born a slave in Egypt but he was selected to follow Moses as the leader of Israel. He was the man God used to fulfill His promise regarding the land of Canaan. Joshua had been Moses' Chief of Staff. He assisted him, ministered to him, and led the armies into battle. He watched and learned as God led Moses. He experienced the
