Integrative approaches to psychology and Christianity by David N. Entwistle is a great tool for teaching the integration of psychology and Christianity. This book effectively shows the overlap of the two disciplines in a way that is very easy to understand. Entwistle poses the question “What indeed has Athens to do with Jerusalem” (Entwistle, 2010 pg.8). This question is essentially what the book is all about, what exactly psychology and Christianity have to do with one another. The book explores the historical views on Christianity and the sciences and how they overlap. Historical examples are given of times when the sciences and faith have interacted such examples include the Roman Catholic Church and Darwinism (Entwisle, 2010). The purpose of these examples was to show that back then the church either would either change scripture to accommodate the science or completely reject it. The author …show more content…

Entwistle is full of a lot of pertinent information that anyone in the behavioral science field could use in one way or the other. The book is very well-written and poses some thought-provoking questions. Questions such as the main question what has psychology to do with Christianity? It is important that Christian counselors have a clear understanding of what Christianity has to do with psychology because a clear understanding of this will allow for a more effective session. The answer to the question of what psychology and Christianity have to do with each other depends on who you ask. We see this clearly in the book. Entwistle examines this question from every angle. That is something that can be appreciated by someone who maybe has a background that’s not necessarily Christian. A positive aspect of this book was that at the end of the chapters, discussion questions were provided.
