Evaluation To begin with, I have now spent almost all of my 2017 Fall Semester writing about my practicum experiences that I have acquired from my appointed agency, Center for Addiction and Recovery Studies (CARS) and have established my integrative assignment around the dads parenting classes. The parenting classes that are offered at CARS are constructed around the evidenced-based curriculum, Nurturing Skills for Families – which was part of the intervention phase and discussed in the preceding sections, and also recognized as, The New Connections Parenting/Drug Psychoeducational Program. Now that I have established my integrative seminar assignment, I will be explaining how I approached the intervention phase and how I evaluated the agencies parenting classes, specifically, the dads. However, before I start to explain the ending …show more content…
Evaluations are conducted to aid those who must make administrative decisions about human services programs” (pg. 12). As a CAP student, this really influenced my attention because it is imperative to not only know what data to collect, but how to interpret the information/statistics once the process is completed. As further stated by Royse, Thyer & Padgett (2010), “Unlike theoretical research, where scientists engage in science for its own sake, program evaluation systematically examines human services programs for pragmatic reasons” (pg. 12). Equally important, we have to remember that most of the dads attending the classes at CARS are CPS referred and are mandated to complete the eight-week curriculum before they graduate the program and are awarded their certificate of completion. In most cases, if not all that, from the once I sorted through, were required to complete the Parenting/Drug Psychoeducational Program if they wanted to pursue their parental
Today was another day of orientation and we focused TLC’s Fatherhood Initiative. This is a program that fall under the non-profit side of TLC. TLC is for profit; however, I learned there are a few programs that fall under their non-profit. I asked if this is something I should include in my analysis of the agency, and I advised that my contact with the non-profit side will be limited. The Fatherhood Initiative is a work in progress. There is a long curriculum that is dedicated to enhancing men and the role that they play within their family as well as the community. I am pleased that this is a program that is being integrated with the other programs within TLC. The representative that talked to us shared his passion for the program, and he

This program was geared towards helping the children of incarcerated individuals as well as giving parents time with their kids. The project involved a twelve week course put together by the Oregon Social Learning Center (OSLC) and DOC teaching people effective parenting from zero to adulthood. Their goal was to get the parents to see their role in their children’s lives. Once the course is completed, parents get to see their kids and a therapist will provide feedback if necessary (DOC n.d.). As mentioned previously, the goal of the program is to improve relationships between incarcerated parents and their children. In the long run, they hope that the good relationship will help influence the kids to stay out of
Bri Crowl is a Licensed Professional Counselor, that agreed to volunteer her time to participate in my workshop. She would be working with students in groups for the discussion portion of the workshop. Bri’s educational background begins with her attending Portland State University, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in criminology and the criminal justice system. She continued her education and received her Master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at Walden University. She currently works in Kerrville, Texas with a company called K’star, as a family specialist. She has a previous work experience, as a counselor at New Hope Counseling center, outreach consultant at a youth family services center. As well as experience as a therapeutic

To help program directors meet these challenges, the Administration on Children, Youth and Families developed a series of evaluations that explain program evaluation-where the teacher evaluates each child that enters into the Head Start. Good program evaluations help to improve program operations, measure program performance and effects and document important lessons for other programs. With this information, program managers are better able to direct limited resources to where they are most needed and most effective.
Program evaluations have made contributions to the Mental Health field for many decades. In the past program evaluations have been conducted outside the scope of a traditional Marriage and Family therapy framework. Sprenkle (2003) elaborates that MFT’s have been trying to move towards evidence-based research and evaluations. Trying to find the balance between evidence based and a systematic approach. What is also an area that poses some challenges is counselors and therapists trying to implement programs into existing organizations (Sprenkle, 2003). Program evaluations are able to provide useful information to MFT’s to aid in making improvements (Mertens & Wilson, 2012). Merton & Wilson (2012) explain that evaluations may also interfere
The child welfare assessment is based on Dave Pelzer, his family and the experience he went through. All of the information for this study can be found in the book The Lost Boy (Pelzer, 1997) by Dave Pelzer. This assessment includes Dave’s family problems, the system, Dave’s problems, environmental factors and types of interventions and solutions that may have been beneficial for Dave and his family.
Understanding personally that parents are consciously aware of the horrors of drug addiction; with determination and an education about the problems they’re facing parents can and will make a difference in their child’s life. The necessity for incarceration for drug addict can be a necessary step in the recovery process. At some point the addict must realize that his/her perception of control is flawed, and their ability to make rational judgements for
To truly understand the success or failure of a program, evaluations must be done. There are several ways to evaluate a program. For instance, a survey could be given to each client after they discharge from the program or checking on the offender two months after they discharge is a way to evaluate the outcome. Also, a stop to look at the direction the program is headed is a way to evaluate. If the program is starting to go in the opposite direction of the goals and objectives, then it would be time to revamp the program and get a fresh start. “Process/implementation evaluation determines whether program activities have been implemented as intended. (cdc.gov).” This shows that goals and objectives hold a significant function in designing a
Participants will between the ages of 25 and 45 years old. The research will have an equal representation of females and males and families with Child Protective Service involvement and families without. Furthermore, there will be a representation of three different races: Caucasian, African American, and Hispanic. However, these three races may not be equally represented due to a lack of availability at the Family Support Program. In addition, we will not include participants who have previously engaged in a parenting class because this may impact the Adult-Adolescent Parenting Inventory scores; therefore, participants who have never completed a parenting group before are the only participants that will be included in the study. In addition, for families with Child Protective Service involvement the involvement has to be within the last 5 years and does not include Child Protective Service involvement when the parent was a child. Lastly, we will only include participants who engaged in the intake process at the Family Support Program in the last 5 years. Therefore, the research results will be up to date and
Thanks for sharing your thought during this week discussion. One thing I learned this week from this week assignment was the role and duties on the National League for Nursing (NLN). From this week discussion assignment I was able to discover that the NLN is dedicated to excellence in nursing. According to the Nick, Sharts-Hopko and Leners (2013). NLN is the premier organization for nurse faculty and leaders in nursing education (Nick, Sharts-Hopko & Leners, 2013).
Results of this similar study by Toumbourou and Gregg (2002) demonstrate that “substance use was significantly reduced for students” (p. 281). In addition, these same adolescents reported higher levels of maternal care after the intervention than they had before; that is, being in a school where an intervention took place “almost doubled the odds of high maternal care” (Toumbourou & Gregg, 2002, p. 282). In this study, maternal care was associated with the attenuation of substance use (Toumbourou & Gregg, 2002). Further, there was a “high level of adherence to the PACE curriculum” (Toumbourou & Gregg, 2002, p. 279), indicating that caregivers of Glenville students will likely follow our program and show success in bettering their parenting skills and behaviors, as well as their relationships with their
During our conversation many topics were discussed. During my time talking to the family I started to notice a few worrisome details. First, the mother was going to stay home with the infant while the father went back to work. Though she had a lot of family present for the birth, they don’t live in Colorado. The mother shared she has struggled with depression during her pregnancy and was worried about if it was going to come back. It became clear that I needed to focus my teaching on educating the family about postpartum depression due to the mothers’ risk factors. I questioned the
Intervention: MHP. Loshane, and MHS discuss being honesty and accepting responsibility. MHP and Loshane review ways he can demonstrate compliance. MHP praise Loshane for expressing his adjustments in the home and community in a positive manner. MHP, Loshane and MHS debrief an incident and process the details. MHP validated Loshane’s emotions about processing the details to the incident. MHP and MHS review alternative ways to provide healthy interventions.
