Intellectual hubris is the over exaggeration of pride relating to ones thinking. I reject intellectual hubris that is based on exaggerated pride of intellectual achievements. Intellectual hubris is based on elitism and arrogance. It makes individuals undeterred; they feel almost unstoppable with their intelligence and act in such a carless manner. That is the key difference the excess of pride. That within itself is the main problem of intellectual hubris that leads to the other deadly sins such as envy and greed. As Solomon Schimmel said, the seven deadly sins concern the core of what we are, can be, and aspire to become (Schimmel). He also considered pride to be the “gateway sin” often leading to other sins.
