How we think can take on a whole new realm of mannerism if only we take the time to analyze our thoughts and develop intellectual thinking techniques. Thinking on how to react often comes as the last thing in our minds especially if confronted with unwarranted and unexpected circumstances. Discipline on how we think and act about a situation can have a significant difference on the outcome (Paul & Elder, 2001, p. 27). Consequently, we tend to lay blame on someone or something else as opposed to accepting the wrong because we have not thought through the situation or the potential consequences it may bring. Moreover, we will hold grunges and forfeit the time to think and develop intellectual strategies in order to reconstruct our thinking …show more content…
38). I like the idea of a game plan but does it really work if you are a constant thinker? I have never thought of creating a journal to document thoughts only in a letter to my wife, mother, or daughters, if that is comparable. I do practice intellectual strategies if I have the time and that is when I know I will be conducting a brief in front of people or I have to submit summaries to my leaders from events attended (Paul & Elder, 2001, p. 39). Briefings continue to scare me but if I game plan on what I need to talk about helps me develop the topics and talking points for the audience. It has resulted in better thinking and a better product in showing I have the ability of improving my thoughts if I take the time to strategize the approach. Consequently, I believe I am a challenged thinker only because of how I handle certain situations. Typically I am more reserve in getting my emotions exercised but there are certain situations that gets me elevated. That is when I heed to strategize my thinking to ensure I take the right approach so it does not add to the situation (Paul & Elder, 2001, p. 39). By doing this it has also changed my character admitting when I am
Today I’ll be comparing the Narration of “The Cask of Amontillado” and “The Black Cat” by Edgar Allen Poe. Edgar Allen Poe is the author of many great pieces of literature, using his narrators to explain situations that are going on in their life. The narrators of "The Cask of Amontillado" and "The Black Cat" both lead characters love for man’s inhumanity to man and animals through horrific murders.
In reading "Mistakes were Made but Not by me," multiple accounts are given of traits exhibited by humans that are displayed subconsciously. The authors, Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson, begin by defining these traits and give readers the actual terminology to these characteristics. With various examples being provided to the reading audience they are then able to make a clear correlation between the behaviors displayed and how they may impact not only themselves but others around them. "Mistakes were Made but Not by me" has a theme which is centralized around the two key facets which are cognitive dissonance and self- justification.
In his article, Hidden Intellectualism, Graff argues that it is essential to educate students who do not realize their own intellectual talents for themselves and allow students who are street smart an advantage to put on their extracurricular skills in academic study. Graff explains that it is unfair to label students as having “book smarts or “street smart”, claiming that they may have one or the other as opposed to both contributing to a student’s success in the classroom. Graff states that schools are missing the chance to help “street smart” students succeed by taking away their nonacademic interests that could help them in school.
He is saying a person who has a total of education is intelligence but should still be more intelligence with a job to and understand both the body and brain. Then he talks about his mom was a waitress and how she had to remember where the order went to. Tells people who are reading about this story of the different things going on in blue collar jobs and his life. His uncle started working for General Motors. Joe talks about the intelligence he had learn when working on the assembly line. The evidence he gives is making sure to write notes, read and integral. I agree with him because even if that person has enough schooling still does not mean anything about their intelligence. Now of days’ people cannot pay for going to a University but
Clive Thompson’s “Smarter Than You Think” reflects upon the idea that technology is her to help us more than we think, rather than the popular belief that technology is ruining the way we think. Thompson believes that the pair between human and technology is making us smarter. Along with that, our minds are slowly adapting to the use of technology, advancing our thinking. Lastly, the relationship between technology and human, has brought humanity closer than ever with the ability to communicate with anyone, anywhere, at any time. Clive Thomason believes the stronger the bond between humans and technology, the smarter we can become; I also alongside with Thompson believe this is true, and if so us as humans need to embrace the use of
Behaviour/mannerisms can convey symbolic meaning within a structure or field and thus create a pattern of recognised behaviours or actions. These become embodied and dictate the way a person conducts themseleves within a certain field. (p69-70)
The imperfection of human nature has no limit as to who it affects, and anyone can be affected as a result of one’s unkempt emotions. One’s actions may be driven
How does the mood we are in when we interpret other’s behavior could affect our attributions? Give an example from your own experience to illustrate that? Ch5. P 157.
Jennifer Grossman is vice president of the Dole Nutrition Institute, which distributes health information to the public through lectures and publications. The intellect argument also comes into play when critics talk about Eve and her dreams, particularly the difference in which Adam and Eve receive information after the fall. Adam goes on his journey with Michael while Eve sleeps. Many see this as supporting the gender hierarchy because Adam’s journey is considered a high form of prophecy because an angel is involved whereas dreams are often considered a low form (McGrath79). Also, there is the fact that dreams used in previous points of the poem were Satanic and therefore already given a negative connotation. The difference in which the two are treated in terms of information is concerning, especially because the difference in which they are treated is so wide, one traveling with an angel
What makes people act the way they do? We’ve examined three books and have come up with an answer to this question. The question itself sparks many ideas and answers, and we’re going to go through all of those and come up with one final answer in the conclusion.
‘If instinctive impulses striving for expression are spurned or condemned by the external world, the still feeble ego can manage only to express them in the form of confession’ (Reik, 1959).
One way that our attributions might be one-sided is that we rush to judge the conduct of other individuals to something personal about them as opposed to something about their circumstance. This is an exemplary case of the general human inclination of underestimating how vital the likely to make solid personal attributions to represent the conduct that we watch others taking part in.
I think that I will face some of the same obstacles as my peers, but I think I will handle situations differently from them. For instance, most of my peers go out to parties and buy expensive stuff, but when it comes time for them to pay their car note they don't have the money because they chose to buy expensive things that they didn't need. I on the other hand believe in saving my money, I value my money.I am what you call a frugal person. So mentally some of my peers have a mindset of being a teenager still, instead of having a mindset of an adult with kids of their own. I am a more responsible and reliable person than MOST of my peers.
The personality test reveals that my “primary mode of living is focused internally” (BSM Consulting, Inc., n.d.) and that I see thing via the “five senses in a literal, and concrete fashion.” (BSM Consulting, Inc., n.d.). This internal focus tends to have me be labeled as quiet or reserved but this internal world of thinking and reflection is a fertile place for ideas where I can plan and organize tasks. Being “organized and methodical,” (BSM Consulting, Inc., n.d.) ISTJ’s “can generally succeed at any task which they undertake” (BSM Consulting, Inc., n.d.) although the area that can undermine this is my lack of self-confidence. This type “can be depended upon to follow through on tasks” (BSM Consulting, Inc., n.d.) and they have an appreciation
