Norris expresses that when you evolve the six dimensions of wellness it could be used as a model or a guide. An individual can take steps to promote their mental well-being and mental health. These steps could be social connections, being active, learning and developing themselves, social involvement and self awareness. Connecting with other people and developing relationships are important for an individual’s mental well-being. Staying active can help maintain a positive mental state. Learning new skills can create a sense of achievement and improve self esteem. Involvement in the local community or other social groups can develop strong social inclusion encouraging mental well-being. Being aware of own feelings and emotional state means an individual can maintain their mental well-being.

By taking the wellness inventory I have discovered things about myself, some were new and others I have known for quite some time. For example, I knew that my intellectual wellness would be high because I love to learn about different things and I consistently ask questions about things I am not familiar with. In addition, I knew that my social wellness would be high as well because I enjoy talking to people who come from backgrounds both similar and different than my own. I also have a very broad network of people who are close to me because I am a compassionate person who always tries to go out of my way to communicate with others.
Intellectual wellness is being very active in your community and getting involved so you succeed, it's taking what you learn in the classroom and using that with life experience. For intellectual wellness I want to set a very high standard goal for myself and that is to be disciplined with school and go in for help before i think i even need it. A step I will take to achieve this goal would be to set up check up appointments in advance and make sure i go in even when everything is going well in class, I have to be more pro active.

The articles by Erikson et al., Gatz, Korol et al., and Draganski et al. explore the concept of increased physical activity and/or mental activity having effects on the cognitive function and development or deterioration of the brain as we age. Although I agree that physical exercise is critical in increasing cognitive function because of the health benefits it provides, as well as the increased blood flow and circulation throughout the body, I ultimately believe that a healthy brain is not achieved solely by physical exercise or mental exercise, but both. I think there is a link between physical and mental exercise, and that the combination of these two activities creates higher cognitive functioning of the mind as well as the body. The mind and body come together and meet to make an overall healthy individual.
Exercise: This not only has benefits for your health but also your mind. Exercise can be as simple as going for a five minute jog.
