3.8 INTERNAL AUDITS, INSPECTIONS AND SENIOR MANAGEMENT REVIEW An audit is an in-depth measurement of the Company health and safety management performance against set standards – “Does practice mirror the health and safety policies and procedures?” Whereas an inspection is a walk-through workplace review to observe standards and practices and to determine unsafe acts or conditions. The Human Resources Director shall ensure that there is an effective internal audit and inspection programme which includes proactive monitoring by taking the initiative before things go wrong involving routine inspections and checks to make sure that standard and policies are being implemented and that controls are working. Reactive monitoring is also necessary, for example reviewing injury/ill health statistics and other historical information. Heads of Departments/Managers shall inspect their area(s) on a bi-weekly basis and keep appropriate records using the Workplace Inspection Checklist. The Human Resources Director will arrange for an annual independent health and safety at work audit, the results being presented for review by the Board of Directors. 3.9 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) 3.9.1 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) is all equipment (including clothing affording protection against the weather) which is intended to be worn or held by a person at work and which protects them against one or more risks to health and safety and any addition or
