Interpersonal Communication plays a large role in the work place and at home. We use it on a day-to-day basis with everyone we encounter, whether it is through face-to-face interactions or cyber interactions with other people. I am a stay at home mom, and will continue this "career path” probably forever. It is the one career that I have really fallen in love with and I dedicate the majority of my time doing. Many people do not call this a career or even a job, but I beg to differ with that statement. “According to the U.S. Census Bureau, an estimated 5.4 million women were stay-at-mothers in 2003” (IBEC-Web). In being a stay at home mom we face many of the same challenges of a workplace environment according to interpersonal communication. Sometimes having even more interaction, then a person who simply just goes to job on a daily basis.
There is not a whole lot of research about interpersonal communications with stay at home moms, but I believe there are many challenges that have to be faced with being a stay at home mom. First and foremost the challenges that come into play in communicating with the children. There are many books and publications on how to correctly communicate with your child. While some of these are helpful and informative informational pieces not all ring true to the problems and challenges you face on a daily basis.
