I have taken Interpersonal Communication before during the summer 2016, but I didn’t pass it mainly because I wasn’t as focused as I was in this class. Professor Castro just made it fun. Her lectures and her stories made it interesting. Every Mondays and Wednesdays, I had three classes. Interpersonal Communication would be my first class to start my day. Then two classes after that. I ended up dropping those two classes. I was supposed to drop this class too but I didn’t because I wanted to learn more. I’ve been in a relationship with my girlfriend for almost a year and one of the problems we had was listening. Sometimes she wouldn’t listen to me or I just wouldn’t listen to her at all. The day we had a lecture about listening in class, that same morning, we got in an argument about how I don’t listen to her. I always listen to her but not when we argue. I usually avoid her when we are about to start arguing. I found it funny how the professor somehow knew I was in trouble with listening and she decided to have a lecture on listening. Unlike a history class or a math class or even reading class, this class actually helped me outside of school. I also learned that my professor is a volunteer basically everywhere. She participates in marches whenever she can. Her age doesn’t stop her from making the community better and standing up for what she believes in.

Using each of these three skills can help avoid miscommunication and concurrent conflict. Moreover, assertiveness, mindful listening, and checking perceptions all go hand-in-hand. For example, being assertive means speaking mindfully and truthfully which makes it more possible to listen mindfully and truthfully too. Listening mindfully, and communicating mindfully in general, ensures that all parties are being treated with equal respect. When mindfulness is practiced in communication, it becomes more possible to engage the tool of perception checking, too. Being assertive, listening mindfully, and checking perceptions are three relatively simple tools that can be incorporated easily into personal and professional communications.

I have a love/hate relationship working with my mom because if you spend every second of every day together you will feel worn out. A relationship between two people can have very different meanings. In some relationships such as two lovers, they can also be best friends because they share good communication. A relationship between a parent and child has a special bond because they share love, and affection for each other. However, there are times when a relationship can go bad because there is no understanding, lack of communication, and a feeling of distance in the relationship.
