Chapter four in the book Interpersonal Communication: Everyday Encounters explains that language has a set of predefined communication rules, which are taught from a very young age. They break these rules into two sections: regulative rules and constitutive rules. The book states that regulative rules “specify when, where, and with whom individuals talk about certain things.” Constitutive rules “specify how to interpret and perform different kinds of communication.”

Communication takes place in any and all locations, intentionally and unintentionally, and it can be positive or negative. Many of our personal traits and character qualities can affect how we communicate with other people, and how they communicate with us. Recently, I had an experience that further proved this point to me in a very real and tangible way.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the use distinctive characteristic of interpersonal communication. In the movie You’ve Got Mail, it tells a story of two bookstore owners who were enemies. But when they anonymously met online, they fell in love with each other. The movie You’ve Got Mail portrays interpersonal relationship. Interpersonal relationships are between two or more people. Through out the paper, there are five different interpersonal relationships, for example, identity, emotions, nonverbal communication, listening and communication.

The TV series, which I have chosen, and believe to be one of the best examples of interpersonal communication behavior, is the American television comedy series called The Office. This outrageously hilarious comedy TV series portrays the everyday lives of office employees located in Scranton, Pennsylvania, a branch of the fictional Dunder Mifflin paper company and is filmed in a documentary type style by a team of film crew members. The plot of this TV series revolves around documenting the lives, interactions, and interpersonal relationships of the manager, Michael Scott, and the employees that he manages, which include Jim Halpert, who is a sales representative and prankster, Pam Beesly, who is a receptionist, and Dwight Schrute, who is a high-ranking salesman devoid of social skills, as well as Stanley Hudson, Kevin Malone, and many other minor characters who play the roles of office workers, working in a variety of positions throughout the office.

Throughout the semester my partner and I have learned more about each other such as our history and our plans for the future. We have also discovered how each of us like to communicate differently. The main things I have noticed is that every conversation is unique and they are not all going to need my advice or strong probing. By watching others, I have noticed this same trend. Each week tactics are changing depending on the situation.

On 09/09/2017, I, Dillon Dickerson, badge #155, was working as a Patrol Officer for the Wichita State University Police Department, in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. The Wichita Police Department (WPD) advised over the radio they would be stopping a vehicle at 18th and Green. The WPD Officers advised a male subject ran from the vehicle heading eastbound. Due to the location of the stop this would put the male possibly running towards campus. I went towards the west side of campus to check for the male. They described the male as a black male, skinny, 5'10", wearing white shirt and gray shorts.

I interviewed two of my co-workers who, like me, are in recovery and have been through several deferent types of groups. I will start with a female co-worker, who is explain to me one group she believes that used effective group communication. The male co-worker explained to me what the deferent types of recovery groups he attended and how he defines them.

A: MHS discussed things the member can do to occupy her mind to prevent her being depressed. MHS advised member not to take on too much. MHS instructed member to on working on a positive attitude.
