The objective is to attract the most skilled, qualified and appropriate people and motivate them to apply at our company at www.macysjobs.com. The application process is simple. Applicants are instructed to upload a resume or manually complete sections consisting of personal information, education, work experience, etc. Additionally, a questionnaire is provided to give us a better insight on an individual’s value and work ethic. Most of us have had an interview before, and it can be a stressful time. Even with the best laid-out resume’, it can still be hard to get a job. Every time I turn on the television these days, I hear about the migrant crisis and the border security issues and I revert back to the time when I crossed the Canadian border. Being born as a Tibetan refugee, I have always felt like a nomad with no distinctive place to call it my own. I was fourteen years old when my family decided to immigrate to Canada and begin a new life. At that time, Canada was our hope for the gleaming future, our independence, and our new home. The emotional and mental ordeal that I faced during my migration has made me the strong and independent woman who I am today.

This week I interviewed Maliyah Nichols, who is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She is still taking prerequisites for her major and attends a community college in the south suburbs of Chicago. Maliyah chose this degree because speech and language pathologists make a decent amount of income and she wants to help children who have speech impediments, learn to articulate and communicate effectively. A challenge she faced in this program was in one of courses. She explained to me that it wasn’t necessarily the material covered in class but rather how it was presented. Furthermore, she felt her teacher graded unfairly and his teaching methods didn’t suit her idea of learning. She explained that she uses critical thinking at both her job and school. She works as part of the kitchen staff at an elementary school and she uses critical thinking to plan meals accordingly so that there is enough food to distribute to every child. At school, an example of Maliyah utilizing her critical thinking skills is in the course statistics. She explained it takes a lot of thinking and evaluating
