Interview With Parents Research Paper

For the professional practice interview, I interviewed Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Joe Exnowski. He has been working with my population of interest for the past four years. He works with an array of students dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, and substance use and abuse. In addition, to working with this population across different college campuses, he also works with couples in private practice. I conducted a 15-minute interview in which we had the opportunity to explore the pros and cons about working with this specific population more in particular, in regards to alcohol use and abuse.

“Guilt is perhaps the most painful companion of death.” Famous businesswoman and fashion designer Coco Chanel describes the impact of guilt on one's life and relates the pain of remorse to the immeasurable pain of death. Guilt can take over one's life and destroy one's strength, but it can also lead people to not confess their wrongdoings to protect others. Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter supports Chanel’s ideas on shame.

I chose to interview three family members in order to evaluate similarities and differences on experiences on what it’s like to be a parent. I believe that there is no right or wrong way to define what family is, but the definition of family comes with a wide range of beliefs about parenting and what it means to be “good parents” to their children. Every person is different and when it comes to every parent, they have their own style of parenting due to the environments as well as experiences within their environment. Throughout the interviews, I hope to gain knowledge and to be able to understand what it’s like to be a full time parent. Therefore, I have completed three interviews with three separate members of my family that were all raised by the same parents in the same household so it would be interesting to get an insight of how each individuals perspective as parents are. Furthermore, I will present a summary of questions that I’ve asked, a summary of their answers as well as an analysis of their way of parenting with some information that I’ve gathered and compare it to what I’ve learned in class.

Civilizations in the ancient world bloomed into various settlements and cultures that we see today. Theses communities all have their positives that was well suited for their time and/or location as well as their own downsides from things such as the need of food and water, war, and just blatant greed. Over the course time they would evolve from each other, making new ideas and bettering themselves from it. I interviewed three different family member of all different age that have experienced my family culture in their own way. For my interview I interviewed My mother Okala Mundeke. She is originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo but she moved to America when she was 35 years old and she is now 50 years old. She has grown up mostly in Congo so she has a strong knowledge of our heritage and family history since she was around it more.. My sister Emmanuella Kalonda she was born in the congo but has little memory of it since she was less than a year old when she came to america. she is currently sixteen years old. But she was raised with my mother learning about family and our culture. My next candidate is my other sister Jocelyn Fetner

I had the opportunity to interview a family very close to me whom I have been blessed to know since I was three years old. The mother Heidi, who is 59, remarried at the age of 31 to Paul, who is 57, and they have been married for 28 years now. Heidi had her first son Markie, who is now 38, with her previous husband who is no longer in the picture. Paul and Heidi have a son named Travis who is 26 and a daughter named Tina who is 24. Paul used to work as a carpenter but retired when he was 52. He then began working at a grocery store and eventually retired from there as well. Heidi also worked at a grocery and just recently retired. Paul loved what he did as a carpenter and still continues to build things for the family such as cabinets and furniture.

If I had the opportunity to interview anyone in my family, it would my Grandma. She was born in Spain and lived there most her life. I would ask her about the Spanish culture and what it was like to live there, what she wore, what she ate, where she lived and what her friends and family were like. I love Spain and it would so much fun to learn all about it!

For the Teen Interview I interviewed my dad Don, who is now 53 years old and interviewed my cousin Timmy, who is 17 years old. They both provided great answers which have similarities and differences. They are only 36 years apart from each other, but with all of the advancements in technology things have changed.

The interview took place on June 5, 2015 between 12:30 and 1:45 pm at my home. Tierra is a friend of the interviewee daughter. She is 23 years old, has red long weave, red long nails, she has on a short white dress and red sandals. She is in the Erickson’s intimacy vs. isolation stage. Being raised in the higher SES but finds, herself now living in the lower SES. The areas the interview will consist of are to include physical, cognitive, and social/emotional development of her early adulthood.

Parenting styles are as diverse as parents themselves. Parenting is one of the most challenging and difficult responsibilities a person can face. The way a family is structured is called the parenting style. Parenting styles are collections of parental attitudes, practices, and non-verbal expressions that characterize the nature of parent-child relationships. Because individuals learn how to parent from many different examples including their own parents, role models, society and life experiences. After the grandparents have began taking care of their grandchildren, there are many different worries that may occur. Some of the biggest worries the grandparents may have include; securing a future for the children, raising teenagers in a society they aren't used too, and what would happen to the children if something happened to them and they could no longer care for the children. Being a parent comes with a lot of responsibility and difficult decision making. You always have your child's best interest at heart, but sometimes your child may disagree with the rules you have set down. That is why, I believe, the perfect parenting style is democratic. You can compromise with your child, but still have basic rules you want them to follow, without them feeling targeted or that you are being unfair. When i become a parent, I want to make sure my children have guidelines. I want them to be able to make their own mistakes and learn from them. Their health, their type of entertainment and the toys they play with are three major, broad categories that I would like to have a say in, along with their input of course.

The topic I have chosen for my paper is that of relationship between parents and children. Some of the points that I will be discussing are child abuse, child neglect and how it can affect a child and the relationship with the parents.
