The Roaring Twenties was a turn into a new modern age era in Canada. The 20’s was referred to as the ‘Roaring Twenties’, because of the social freedoms and new technologies. After the settlement of World War I, many people were eager to add some excitement into their lives, and technology began to evolve at a rapid speed. This led to the creation of a great number of inventions. Some examples of inventions that made lives easier are mass-produced automobiles, electric washers and radios. Throughout the 1920's, technology advanced greatly which made the standard of living more efficient through the ability to travel, improved appliances and being able to communicate competently.

Newly developed electric appliances, also known as electric servants, were introduced to save labour time and make lives easier for women at home [Curley, Robert] Electric washers (known as washing machines today) decreased the amount of time to wash clothes. Before the electrical washer was introduced, women were forced to wash clothes one by one using a washboard. The first electrical washer was introduced in 1908, which was designed to put clothes into a wooden barrel and used a lever to operate it. Later into the 1920’s, the appliance became more advanced and common which made life easier for women as it washed all the clothes together. Not only was there was an improvement to wash clothes, people were also able to get creative and create drinks and dishes using the electric blender. The electric blended was able to reduce fruits and vegetables into a liquid to create malts and milkshakes [The Rise of the Electric Home Appliance]. It allowed women at home, to develop their own techniques to prepare food. The amount of time to prepare meals was reduced, which gave them more time for leisure activities and spend time with their family. The use of new kitchen appliances was the key to attracting consumers in the 1920s.
