One example was given were a student was a straight “A” students her whole life all through elementary, middle and high school. She took the F-cat so she could graduate and failed. She could not graduate with her class. They feel the test is not fare to student with or without learning disabilities. The changes they all agreed with was to completely do away with the F-cat and much of the paper work and go back to letting teachers teach. (Grand Canyon University, n.d.) The reason I want to become a teacher is the total opposite of the teachers interviewed. I never had a teacher that left a lasting impression on my life. I had no on to mentor me as I chose to become a teacher. I became a teacher because after a few industrial accidents left me unable do anything physical for a very long time. While I was looking for something I could do. A bus driving passion came open. So I became a bus driver. As I was driving the position of a substitute teacher open I became a substitute teacher because it paid two dollars more an hour. That was as a substitute teacher that and working with the student that made me decided to become a teacher full time. Watching students struggle with their work, being able to show them how to do it correctly, and having the opportunity to see the “ahh” factor. Since youth, my parents’ way of life has inspired me to become a teacher. My father was never properly educated. Rather than going to school full-time, he decided to work to help my grandmother financially. Although he did attend school a few days a week, he never had the support of teachers or family to make education a priority. As a result, he grew up illiterate and lacking the essential skills of reading and writing. The fact that my father never received proper education and lacked a solid supportive learning environment has inspired me to pursue a career in education. I would like to help change the way students easily throw in the towel at school due to family burdens and social circumstances. My mom also inspired me to become a teacher because her career field exposed me to younger children and birthed a love for giving, helping, and motivating children to explore. For me, the decision to become a teacher is more of a way of life than a career. I have always loved school, practicing at being school marm from a young age, and voraciously devouring every shred of education offered me in my career as a student. If it were possible, I would be a student for the rest of my life. And then I still would not have learned enough. As a teacher, I hope to instill this appetite for knowledge in secondary students. They are, after all, the future leaders of the world, and what better place to expand the minds of the generations to come than here in Appalachia where education programs, especially the sciences, which I plan to teach, are poorly funded and children’s dreams
What is an effective teacher? Is it a teacher who is caring, compassionate, warming, and personable? Or is it a teacher who is good at planning, works well with other teachers/administrators, and self-disciplined? Many people would say that these qualities and characteristics would make an ideal teacher, and they would be correct. But these qualities alone are not enough to be considered an effective teacher.
My decision to be a teacher did not come easily to me. This choice was dependent on a reflection about what I was passionate about and how I could make a difference. I have chosen to become a teacher, as I believe teachers have the ability to provide future generations the stimulation for one of the most significant roles in life; to become a lifelong learner. Many teachers that I have had during my education have had a positive impact on my decision to grow and develop the skills that are fundamental to pursue a successful teaching career. My aim is to be a part of an honorable profession with the optimism that one day I will become an efficacious teacher who can provide future teachers with inspiration, as my teachers have provided for me. Through personal educational experiences and peer-reviewed academic literature, I am able to shape my approach to my pre-service teaching, as it will influence my future practice. As a teacher, there is not just one singular approach to educating students; there is a need for flexibility, diversity, adaptation and reflection.
However, as I grew older I realized those reasons were silly. Sure, teachers do not earn as much as doctors, but they can usually live on what they earn and through years of work my wages could rise, and there would be problems in every profession whether it be overly talkative children or a computer that just will not work right. When I put aside my childish worries, I found what truly mattered in teaching: the bond a teacher makes with their children and the smiles that children present you with when they accomplish
I recognize the affect each teacher at Rochester High School has had on me, and I can only be thankful for each one of them as they have pushed me to grow and learn. To directly answer the question, what attracts me to my chosen profession is the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of high schoolers. There are many reasons why I believe being a teacher is the right job for me. First, I love working with people and have had different jobs that have given me much experience in the field.I have always admired the “cool” teachers that I have had, and they have always made some sort of impact in my life. Why do I want to become a teacher, you ask? Well a teacher is a very important role model for many childrens and parents as well. You can either have a very positive or negative impact on the students. Growing up in an Asian household, teachers were well respected and was loved by parents, despite them being good or bad. To my parents teachers are always right, I grew up to believe otherwise. I want to become a teacher and be the teacher who will not disappoint my students. I want to plant a strong seed in my students, so they can grow and expand from it. There are several reasons why I want to become a teacher. Being a teacher, to me, means that you have a passion for something that is so great there is nothing you would rather than to share that same passion with someone else. I want to become a teacher because I love to share what I know with other people. When friends or family have any sort of question about a historical event that has already happened or is happening now, I am more than willing to share my knowledge with them; however, I do not just share facts. I offer them facts and separate ways of interpreting those facts so that they can make their own opinions based on the knowledge I gave them. I wish to carry on doing this but to a larger audience so I can share my knowledge and passion with as many people as I can. Effective teaching is when a teacher is able to teach to the best interest of his students. Effective teachers should have an outstanding knowledge of the contents they are teaching, they should be able to explain the contents in extensive details and be able to teach it using different strategies to enhance student’s interest and learning. Effective teachers should trust their students and understand how each student thinks and how they all have a different perspective of the world. Effective teachers should have a positive assumption for student success. They should believe that all students are capable to assess higher forms of thinking and learning if they are given appropriate, differentiated instruction and guidance. Teachers should create an environment that supports individual and collaborative learning; enhance positive social interactions and self- motivation.
Dedicated teachers are currently in high demand and I overjoyed that I get to step into that role. A dedicated teacher may wear several hats, but they also have the heart to lead a herd to the promise land. The main reason I want to be a teacher is because I want to fill the shoes that so many incredible teachers did in my life. I plan to lead my students to their full potential and encourage them to always reach for the stars. I feel as if I am a natural educator because I am nurture others to become better in what they do, enjoy being a leader, and are an organized individual.
