There are many words that could describe my household, crazy and hectic come to mind, but loving rises above all. I am the eldest of six children, residing in a small house in Okotoks, Alberta. Each of the residents have contributed to building up the small home. My Irish twin, Max, is the comedic of the family, he’s very witty and knows exactly what to say to make someone mad. Max and I have always been close, see as were thirteen months apart, him and I share a love for the arts. Tobias is the next brother, this lovable goof always has a smile on his face and believes in the best in people (a skill I have yet to know). He’s six feet, two inches of pure sunshine. The next brother is Xavier, I describe him as the savvy francophone of the family. …show more content…
Throughout all my years of school my teachers put in more than what was required in order to ensure their students success. A primary example of such is my schooling years leading up to and in senior high school. When I was in junior high, I was in the french immersion program and was struggling. My test marks were dropping drastically, I attended many extra help and study sessions but something still was not clicking, regardless of how much time and effort was put in. A few years later I entered into senior high school and faced the same problem, low test scores even though the work was there. Finally my parents had me assed and tested for a learning disability, they knew I had struggled with reading when I was little but because of the amount of book I read it plateaued. After spending a few weeks with the school psychologist we discovered that I did indeed have learning issues, I now receive extra time, isolation, and a reader for all of my exams. As a result of these accommodations all my test scores went up over ten percent. Without receiving that help none of this would have been possible, and I would not be as confident in academics as I am today. If I had never received that support school would have been a much different experience for me, and I am extremely grateful to have attended an institution that provided all the tools I needed to
As students were forced into their growth of knowledge in elementary school and middle school by continuously being taught basics, in order to prepare them for high school and beyond, they get to gain their freedom and decide whether or not they want to meet their teachers’ marks in high school. Throughout the school year, there comes a time where students have to sign up for classes. By having this choice, students can decide on how they want to challenge themselves in the next school year. During my two and a half years of high school that I have conquered so far, I learned that in a classroom setting there are students who take advanced courses, enjoy the subjects that they chose to take, and try their best to get the best grades that they can receive, in order to prepare them for their future in adulthood. However, there are also students who do not try or realize the importance of the free education given to them because they do not have an interest in the subjects that teachers are teaching them or are just being forced by their students to attend school. Some teachers try their best to bring out the motivation in these students who do not yet see that education is power and freedom, but there are also teachers who ignore these helpless students that are blinded by the present things that affect them like popularity or living with the motto that “you only live once”, because these teachers do not have the inspiration in the
Unfortunately, it’s impossible to always have that support and in fifth grade I encountered a teacher who did not care about me. I did so poorly in her English class, they almost put me in remedial classes. My teacher never helped me, or sat me down one on one to assist me with the assignments, but instead I was left feeling stupid and not worth the effort. From then until sophomore year, I took all advanced classes except for in English because I thought I wouldn’t succeed in it.
Needless to say, I knew nothing about teaching... and felt truly horrible about it. I searched for help and support, reached out to other teachers, administrators, the district, the board of education. For the most part mild concern and no effective action was the common response. If it weren't for one wonderful teacher who took me under her wing, for no extra pay of course, I am sure I would have given up.
Every teacher tries their hardest to cater to every student in each of their classes. Anytime I hear them talking it is always about what they can do for this student or they’re asking another teacher on what they do for a certain student. Everything they do here is in order to see the student succeed. It may not be easy all the time but it gets done if everyone does their part. I do believe the students need to appreciate this school more than they do. They act as if this school has nothing to offer and does nothing for them. What they don’t realize is how easy they have it here, they get fed reality piece by piece unlike students in other places who get thrown into a huge abyss of confusion and told to fend for themselves. They get after-school tutoring from teachers who stay late to help and content recovery when they haven’t done well on their assignments; I don’t of many schools who do that for their students.
I walked into classes several times to witness teachers with their head in their hands, stressed from the previous class. They shake their heads when the next class begins, collecting themselves and doing their best to not let their frustrations show. Students don’t cooperate. They are unwilling to learn because they are aware that the teacher will pass them anyways. There is no real incentive for them to work hard for a high grade. The students know the teacher has to pass them or risk their job. This is an all too common scene in today’s public high schools. Unfortunately, the efforts of teachers are shoved aside and covered by pressures to churn out passing students and high test scores.
As a student you’re not the only that is frustrated. Rose explains how even dealing with the issues and difficulty of a highly respected professor you can still somehow find comfort as a student and learn to deal with the issues of the professor in your own way. Rose also points out that the impact a teacher has on his or her students is very powerful. I know from experience that when you as a student can respect and relate to a teacher your more willing to put as much effort as you can into your own work. Rose
Imagine from day one always having someone by your side. A person that looks like you but isn't. A person that shares many of your interests and qualities. A person to go to school with, share a room, and eat meals together. This person is my identical twin brother. If yin and yang were not complete opposites that would be us since we live in complete harmony. All my life I have always had someone to talk to, to live with, to laugh with, to just have fun, and so much more. Being a twin has been such a benefit to my life and a great joy. I always have my own personal study buddy that a lot of my friends can get jealous about. For several project I have been up late at night working with him on them; especially our video projects that we spend many hours doing to go above and beyond.
I was born a twin and research studies show that with twins there is a high percentage that one twin may have a speech impairment. I was twin (a), the one who had the severe speech impairment. Growing up and not being able to speak properly had a major impact on my life. My speech was so severe that my mother and father use to tell me that they felt bad because they were my parents and they couldn’t understand what I was trying to say. Thanks to my twin sister she knew everything that I was trying to say and she would translate for me. I begin to take speech classes in kindergarten up until I was in the 5th grade. I never knew that my speech problem was so severe until I began school and all the other children begin to laugh and make fun of me because of the way I spoke, they would tell me “I spoke like a baby”.
My peers and past teachers would agree that I had not been affected by the system, but what matters to me is the performance of my peers in the classes of 2018 and above and the hopefully upward trend of improvement. I concede that lessons I learned in school helped me improve my critical thinking and academic schools, but it helped build my character. I appreciate the education I received, but I do believe we need change because one success story cannot compare to thousands of children who the system failed. America, we need to fix something
I wondered what I could be in life when I have a twin that looks like me and acts like me. When I was younger; everyone always considered Mariah and I as the same person. I tried to prove them wrong by doing different things. I experienced a rough childhood with a single parent that raised us by herself. My mother was working all the time at her job at the nursing home being the admission while we came along because no one could watch us. As I began to grow older I found an interest in being around nursing. When I turned sixteen, I began my first job at my mother's nursing home and I am still there for over two years. However, after those two years, I realized I was not close enough in helping people so I started CNA classes through my high
Me personally I believe teachers acted the way they do because they knew that the money was guaranteed. Sometimes I wonder why EHS? We have so many other schools in our district and ours is the only one that acts like that. I can only think of a couple other than because of the kids. One reason could be because our school is in the ghetto we are surrounded by crack houses and thugs who walk the streets it was safe during the day but at night it was the wrong place to be. Some could argue and say you many people have come from a rough school or a rough background and lived in the ghetto and still became rich, famous, powerful, etc. But everyone is different and some people need more help and guidance than others. Another reason our school system is the way it is could be because of the parents or most kids call it “just mom”, I’m not 100% correct but, I’ll say at 55% of the boys in my school don’t have dads which is terrible. God has blessed me with a father. And I thank him for it every day. He taught me so much that my mom couldn’t teach me and sometimes I try and put myself in their shoes, not having a dad to teach you the rights and wrongs of the world, not having someone there to teach you how to become a man. That must be awful, so I figured if they don’t have a father then they must learn from
After many years in the classroom and several as a facilitator, there were many situations that I have observed and or been a part of that did not make me happy I found myself saying what I would have said or done if I was the principal of the school. My heart began to break for those students that were in classes with teachers that did not seem to really care about whether or not the students actually got it but more so doing the bare minimum to say that the skill had been taught. I saw children struggle. I saw children and parents with hurt feelings and then angered by the way a teacher had treated or talked to them. I even saw some teachers that just did not care. I wanted that to change. For years I put off going back to school. I got my Masters in Education right after I
Initially, it is hypothesized that Pro is an alien visiting Earth. However, in the course of the movie we can observe the patient has a disturbed mind. The American Psychiatric Association (2013) classifies dissociative identity disorder, originally called multiple personality disorder, popularly known as double personality, is a mental condition where a single individual demonstrates characteristics of two or more distinct personalities or identities, each with its way of perceiving and interacting with the environment . The assumption is that at least two personalities can routinely take control of the individual's behavior. The diagnostic criteria also take into account associated memory losses, usually described as the Character has two
All too often, people skirt by on bare minimum; forgotten is the power of hard work. Nevertheless, from my personal experience, hard work always pays off in the end. For instance, in my junior year, my most arduous class was AP Chemistry. The goal of the class was to prepare for the AP exam in May. Therefore, my teacher always challenged my class to understand even the most perplexing chemistry theorems. Five homework problems could take three hours. A well-done lab report made my printer run out of ink. Test days were brutal. We were on track for success; however, because of excessive snowfall, my school district lost a multitude of school days. Suddenly every AP teacher was rushing to make up for lost time before AP exam season. I took it
I was honestly confused. When she came outside she told me that she was disappointed in me when she saw my mark for the subject and she knew that I am capable of so much and if I focused and stopped indulging in disruptive behaviour in class I could receive a high grade in all my subjects. I was surprised because it was the first time in secondary school a teacher showed me that they cared about me. I saw the hurt in her eyes when she talked to me. “Research suggests caring relationships with teacher’s help students do better in school and act more kindly toward others.” (Zakrzewski, 2012, para. 1) When a teacher truly shows interest in a student it means so much to that student. That evening I went home and analysed everything she told me and I had a new perspective about her, my education and my future. As a teacher, I will try to motivate all my students from early to insure that they have the right mindset to learn and to prepare for their
