Abortion. “Only 8% of women who have abortions do not use any form of birth control, and that is due more to individual carelessness than to the availability of abortion”(10 Arguments, 2016). Abortion is a questionable practice, but is the choice of the female parent and may be a considered reasonable in cases where the life of the mother is threatened, the fetus was created under certain unwarranted circumstances and other situations such as it is not the private personal decision of the mother to continue carrying the fetus as well as many other reasons to choose abortion.
There is always a possibility of a failed pregnancy at any point during the

It is a proven fact that “at least 80% of women do not report rape, or terminate rape pregnancies because they want to forget and, or they are afraid of they way they will be received by society and those around them”("80% of Women Don’t Report Rape or... Mar. 2016).In the case of rape or incest, forcing a woman to be pregnant by this violent act would cause further psychological harm to the victim. Often times a woman is too afraid to speak up, or is unaware that she is pregnant, thus, the morning after pill is ineffective in these situations.
Abortion is an issue of the heart. Until one understands the heart of a woman, nothing else about abortion makes any sense at all.( – Dr. George Tiller, Pro-Life) However, it is still the woman 's decision to terminate her pregnancy or not. The women deciding to have an abortion have the right to do that, and have confidentiality and privacy rights as well.( Adoption is not an alternative to abortion because it remains the woman 's choice whether or not to give her child up for adoption.(10 Arguments, 2016) Statistics show “very few women who give birth choose to give up their babies - less than 3% of white unmarried women and less than 2% of black unmarried women”(10 Arguments, 2016).
Of course, there
In Judith Jarvis Thomson’s philosophy paper, A Defense of Abortion, she argues that abortion is permissible because an individual’s right over their own body outweighs a fetus’s right to life. In this paper I will focus on whether or not abortion is always permissible. First, I will present Thomson’s argument which says that abortion is sometimes permissible. I will do so by describing her “famous violinist” thought experiment. Next, I will object to Thomson’s claim and expand the scope of her argument by arguing that abortion is in fact, always permissible. I will do so by presenting a new thought experiment. Finally, I will conclude in saying that Thomson is correct and abortion is in fact only sometimes permissible.
Abortion is defined as “The deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy.” (Oxford Dictionary). Nearly three out of ten women in the U.S. have an abortion by the time they are 45-years-old (Planned Parenthood). Abortion is morally permissible because an abortion prevents a woman and the potential child’s suffering. Abortion is moral because it is a fundamental right of competent adults to make their own decisions on the course of their medical treatment, can alleviate further suffering in immoral cases, such as rape and is protected by rule of law.
Abortion has taken the lives of more than 50 million babies since 1973 (“About Abortion”). The issue of abortion is one of the most common controversial issues in American politics and culture. In modern society, many women that have an unintended pregnancy and they result to abortion without researching other options. Abortion is not a substitute for birth control and this issue should be taken seriously. The individual woman needs to understand that by agreeing to have an abortion she is agreeing to kill an innocent fetus. Abortion rips the unborn child from his or hers right to life. Society needs to let women see through the eyes of the fetus and find alternative ways to raise the baby. Abortion should be
For centuries, a woman’s right to abortion has been argued. Individuals with pro-life and anti-abortion beliefs think abortion is murder. While others feel it to be a women’s moral right, a personal privacy right that has been implied in the United States Constitution. I strongly feel that a woman has the right to an abortion. However, the termination of a pregnancy is not something to be taken lightly, I believe the states should have some sort of regulations in place to ensure the woman’s safety and welfare of the potential child.
Though the thought of terminating a foetus may be immoral to most, it is also unethical to not give a woman the right to abort if they have been sexually assaulted. Although it is quite rare to be impregnated from rape, it is not fair for those who do and are not able to abort, for they would have to carry out their pregnancy, along with their burden in an unstable condition.
Abortion is one of the most personal, widely discussed, and controversial topics in American culture today. In most cases, people on both sides of the argument take worthy and moral positions. Who can blame someone who wishes to prevent the termination of a teen pregnancy to save the life of an unborn child? On the other hand, who can blame anyone who advocates the soon-to-be mother's right to make such a personal, heartbreaking choice? No matter what she chooses to do, should anyone have the legal right to force her to bear an unwanted child? Most people in the US are pro-choice, and believe that abortion should be a legal, confidential decision that only a woman can make for herself. However, some are against the idea of
With so many women choosing to have abortions, it would be expected that it would not be so greatly frowned up, yet society is still having problems with its acceptance. Every woman has the fundamental right to decide for herself, free from government interference, whether or not to have an abortion. Today, more than ever, American families do not want the government to trample on their right to privacy by mandating how they must decide on the most intimate, personal matters. That is why, even though Americans may differ on what circumstances for terminating a crisis pregnancy are consistent with their own personal moral views, on the fundamental question of who should make this personal decision, the
Many people ask the question: “What about in cases of rape?” “It is commonly assumed that rape victims who become pregnant would naturally want abortions. But in the only major study of pregnant rape victims ever done, Dr. Sandra Mahkorn found that 75 to 85 percent chose against abortion.” (Reardon) Abortion after rape results in punishing an innocent victim rather than the perpetrator of the crime. A woman’s chances of becoming pregnant are the same after rape as they are after consensual sex, according to medical experts. (“Experts :”). However, the percentage of rape that results in pregnancy fluctuates constantly because not all women are on their ovulation period at the time of rape (“Experts :”). Here are two women’s
After trying for many years, a woman was successful in becoming pregnant. As a component of one of her routine pre-natal appointments, she was tested for fetal abnormalities. A blood test confirmed that her baby has Down syndrome and her physician recommended aborting the fetus. Down syndrome is a chromosomal abnormality that leads to intellectual disability, weak muscle tone and a unique facial characteristic. Down syndrome children often have increased risks for heart defects and other medical conditions such as gastric reflux. Taking care of a child with Down syndrome can be both mentally and physically exhausting. Taking care of a child with Down syndrome can be equally rewarding.
The topic of abortion remains one of the most contentious issue in today’s society. It is undoubtedly a complex issue that merits discussion and discourse. Abortion can generally be defined as the deliberate termination of an unborn human embryo or foetus. Between 2010 and 2014, an estimated 56 million induced abortions occurred each year worldwide (Sedgh et al., 2016). While some might see abortion as morally defensible for the doctor to perform, there are nonetheless some who think otherwise; that it is morally indefensible. Due to this major disagreement, an attempt will be made to provide a case for why it is morally indefensible for a doctor to perform an abortion for a woman. This will be defended by the following syllogism: it is wrong to kill
The fight for the right to life is not the cause of a special few, but the cause of every man, woman and child who cares not only about his or her own family, but the whole family of man.” This quote was said by Dr. Mildred Jefferson. Many women unexpectedly become pregnant and do not know what to do next. Many of them regretfully choose abortion. To destroy the life of a human being is murderous and there is no reason for a doctor to take a life away rather than to save it. Life was never intended to be destroyed, but instead to be lived. Life is a journey and we should all be promised one item in life, and that is a right to our life. Abortion is unjust and should not stand as a legal action.
Abortion is a highly-debated topic of whether it is ethical for a woman to decide to have one. Abortion is any of various surgical methods for deliberately terminating a pregnancy. When we speak of abortion today, we mean induced abortion performed by trained doctors, not including miscarriage (MacKinnon & Fiala, 2015). Some current methods of abortion are morning-after pill, mifepristone, uterine or vacuum aspiration, dilation and curettage, saline solution, prostaglandin drugs, hysterotomy, and partial birth abortion. Abortion involves questions about rights, happiness, and well-being, as well as the status and value of human life. The people who think it is ethical to have an abortion stand on the Pro-choice side and the people who think it is unethical stand on the Pro-life side. The liberal view of abortion supports abortions and the conservative view opposes abortion. There are many legal, religious, and medical conflicts that are included in the debate over abortion. The arguments made from both sides help us better understand whether a woman should have an abortion.
This also will bring out the chauvinistic side of me but I also feel the woman is more responsible for providing birth control. If a pregnancy occurs because of rape and the woman was not allowed to abort it then I feel that numerous lives would be affected. The woman who has this child would feel the emotional and possibly the physical scars for the rest of her life. This would be carried on to the child and probably onto any future relationships and future children she might have. Every one is not the same, some women might be able to handle the situation with little difficulty and some might have great difficulty. I believe this is the main reason to be Pro- Choice.
Our society is filled with numerous ethical dilemmas. We are consistently bombarded with ethical issues daily. At times, these ethical dilemmas are virtually impossible to unravel. I believe the topic of abortion is one of the most difficult and controversial issues in today’s society. It is also the one people are most passionate about as it continues to be scrutinized by two groups, holding fast to different perspectives; Pro-Life versus Pro-Choice.
All around the world, unborn babies are being killed everyday. Abortion has become one of the most common operations in the US today. People that are “pro-choice” believe that it is acceptable for a woman to have the choice to abort her baby or not. They say that it is the legal right of a woman. They believe that a baby is not yet alive until it has been born. It is argued that a woman should be able to do what is best for her future, health, and body. On the other side of the spectrum lies people that are “pro-life”. They believe that human life begins at the time of conception and that killing what is unborn is murder. They defend this with arguments from science, as well as scripture. Pro-choice believes in abortion because it will benefit the majority of women and possibly families. They are looking out for themselves and their best interests. It is Utilitarianism as well as egoism. They believe it is morally acceptable to end the life of the unborn. It will provide the majority with an unwanted pregnancy and a way out of a tough situation. Pro-life is against abortion because of a religious authority and because it will benefit a majority (unborn babies). They believe it is morally unacceptable to end the life of the unborn.
