Many people of the United States to be the greatest country there ever was, and ever will be. Americans claim their country the best, and reign unfailingly with shouts of freedom and liberty and religious tolerance who fight for their rights, even if it took away those of minority. The citizens believe their country to be unfathomably free, but is it really truly as they see? Is America really as free as we claim, is our beloved country the greatest nation out of all 194? Whether you are a Trump or Hillary supporter in the current 2016 election, it all comes down to one essential question that overpowers it all: what does it mean to be an American? As stated previously, our country built itself primarily on the immigration of the eastern hemisphere migrating as they began to crave more than they held in their own country, dynasty, empire, or state. As of currently, our nation does remain the melting pot of the world, yet we have began to discover our policy of immigration no longer conforms to how the world is today. While not all immigrants trying to enter our country have any ulterior motives outside of finding a healthy place to live and thrive with their family, there are many who aim to harm our country in any way they can possibly do so. Terrorists are major concern now, and not just to America. They want to take away our rights because they truly believe the way they live is the correct way to do so, with execution-style murders and children training for war at a young age. Religious freedom has long been a major topic in American, as many cultures have melded into the country and mingle with each other, but many Americans consider the United States to be Christian. Albeit, many cultures and religions, or lack of, reside in our country such as buddhism, atheism, etcetera. Our country is not just built on Christianity, it is built on the importance of being able to accept other religions even if you disagree fully with the beliefs established in said religion. The freedom of speech is battled even today on how it should be interpreted; is it allowed even if it should contempt others? Peaceful assembly, freedom of the press and petition all walk hand-in-hand, given many Americans the choice to showcase their own feelings, as they should be able to do in such a democracy as ours.
