In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, although criticized openly, Atticus Finch is greatly respected throughout the town of maycomb. Atticus is strong, brave, and caring, no matter what life has to throw at him. Atticus is strong because he stands true to his word. He isn’t scared to say what he thinks. Also, because even though many people looked down on Atticus, he didn’t give up on Tom Robinson. The final reason he is strong is because, although a lot goes on through the book he still does his best to be a great father to Jem and Scout. Atticus’ bravest and most important action is raising his children as he believes is right, even though his beliefs differ so greatly from society’s.
