I am going to tell you why i believe that atticus is respected in maycomb. I will also tell you what 3 traits make him so respectable.I will explain this in three paragraphs of shear awesomeness so awesome you may explode you have been warned! The first quality I believe atticus possesses is bravery. I believe he is brave because in the book he is defending a black man when he knows it's not going to bode well for him. I also believe that he is brave because bob ewell openly threatens him but atticus does not react in any negative way I don't know many people that brave. I have told you why atticus is brave now we will move on. The second quality in atticus's possession is his ability to be fair. The evidence proving my acuitation is
Atticus utilized ethos in his argument by quoting credible people. He stated, “Thomas Jefferson once said that all men are created equal, a phrase that the Yankees and the distaff side of the Executive branch in Washington are fond of hurling at us” (pg. 274). Thomas Jefferson was once the president of the United States, which establishes credibility in Atticus’s argument since he was highly respected in his time. Although Atticus provided that illustration of ethos, it was not necessary for him to use much since he is well respected in Maycomb. He is well-known in the town and citizens have knowledge of his compassionate heart, which increases his credibility. His occupation as a lawyer also raises his credibility since it shows he has a more advanced education than most people in Maycomb.
One character quality that describes Atticus is morally upstanding. He is consistently considerate of other people’s feelings while remaining professional. When Scout asks Atticus if he is a nigger-lover, he says he certainly is and he does his best
Firstly, Atticus is shown to be an incredibly courageous man in many different ways. Although physical
Atticus and his children both had to deal with the adversity against them because of the communities differences in opinion. They kept their integrity through it all with Jem and scout having their father’s moral advice and support to help them. Though many succumb to the pressures put on us, there are also many Atticus’s out there that have a moral and ethical conscience backing them up. They become a role model that breeds integrity through their moral practices. “Before I can live with other folks I've got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience.” (Lee, pg.108)
Lastly, Atticus has a heart of courage, he will never give up. Atticus shows his courage just in the fact that he kept his children when his wife died. Many working men in this condition would just send their children to their sister or
In the courtroom, Atticus qualities are the same as they are in his everyday life. He takes being a lawyer seriously, and sees it as a calling, rather than a job. He is an experienced lawyer, and uses cross examination to discover that Bob Ewell was left handed, and that Tom Robinsons left arm was unusable both crucial pieces of evidence for his case.
To begin, in the novel Atticus demonstrates his integrity trait by following his moral aspects on how he lives his life. For example, while Scout was making fun of the Cunninghams, Scout explains, “When...I asked Atticus if Mr. Cunningham would ever pay us. ‘Not in money, Atticus said, ‘but before the year’s out I’ll have been paid. You watch’” (20).
Atticus demonstrates being respectful by having composure, good manners, and his ability to teach his children about respect as
What does Harper Lee want us to learn about courage in his novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird”? Throughout the book, courage is demonstrated by many of the characters in different ways and in different circumstances. Atticus, a father and well-known lawyer in Maycomb, was the most courageous person in the book, and was the character that Harper Lee represented as “the heroic individual”. Atticus is courageous for taking Tom Robinson's case because in doing so he risks his families and his own safety; also, Mrs. Dubose is courageous for trying to stop her addiction to Morphine. With courage Atticus was true to his values.
Atticus is a hero and doing more than is required of him because he always tries to see things from a different point of view, he never loses his temper, and he always stands up for what is right. These are all very important parts of a hero and this is why Atticus makes such a great
Atticus is the main character of the story and is the prime example of a person who displays true courage. Atticus shows pluckiness by defending a black male that is accused of raping a white woman. Atticus explains why he does this courageous act by saying, “The main one is, if I didn’t I couldn’t hold my head high in town. I couldn’t represent this country in this legislature” (p.100). Atticus bravely accepts the job to defend Tom Robinson in court and this is a dangerous move. When Atticus does this, it puts his family in danger. Atticus knows that most of the white people in Maycomb do not support this move. Atticus also knows that this task is almost impossible to do and he realizes that he has a small chance of winning, but he perseveres
During these times Atticus shows that people can be good and sensible. As the reader sees, Atticus is dependable, tolerable, and reasonable to everyone.
Atticus Finch, the dad of Scout Finch and Jem Finch, is respected by the people of Maycomb even though they criticize him for his thoughts on Tom Robinson's case. They criticize him because he wants to treat African Americans the same as whites in court. Although Atticus has different views than most people in Maycomb they respect him because he is brave, understanding, and patient. In To Kill a Mockingbird Atticus is brave in the way he feels obligated to do things even though he will not succeed.
Atticus was proven not guilty, he was the man who he claims he was both behind doors and in public. The lesson for the story would be even if you're a good person once someone sees you different you'll always be like that to said
Could one be criticized but respected at the same time? In a time where segregation still existed, Atticus was criticized because he agreed to defend Tom Robinson, a black man. Despite all the criticisms, the people of Maycomb respect Atticus due to his strong personality, code of honor, and social rank. People continue to respect him for taking tough stands without being dismissive towards those who are against him. His integrity and personality naturally win people over.
