Is a hero only someone who does all good things? Most times when asked to think of words to describe a hero the words courageous, loyal, determined, and many more come to mind. It is not always the case that a particular hero portrays all the characteristics, but they offer a faint trace of each characteristic. Brutus shows the qualities to be both a hero and a villain, but his outstanding hero characteristics outweigh nearly nonexistent villain characteristics. While someone may believe that Brutus was a villain, he is a hero because he will be remembered as noble, he thought that he was doing something good, and he had a deadly flaw that lead him to trust everyone. Brutus will be remember as a hero in the Roman world because Antony
In William Shakespeare's classic tragedy “Julius Caesar” the characters are all positioned on a path that leads them to a terrible and disastrous end. Some destroy themselves for the greater good of Rome or just because of their own selfish greed for power. Some characters proceed to destroy others in hopes of protecting the greater good, but lose those closest to them. Cassius leads a dark conspiracy and kills Julius Caesar, but later kills himself. Marc Antony and Octavius track down and kill the assassins that killed Caesar, but lose those they care about most along the way. A true hero will rise to adversity and meet a situation head on to conquer the problem or his foes; however, a tragic hero may do just the opposite. A tragic
“You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” Harvey Dent, The Dark Knight. This quote can be assimilates to Brutus in Shakespeare’s play, Julius Caesar. In a way he died as a hero but he did live long enough and saw himself becoming the villain. Throughout the play, Brutus had been consumed in a lot of drama and deaths. The readers can tell the internal arguments he has with himself about it too. In William Shakespeare’s play, Julius Caesar, there are many tragic deaths, drama, and heroes and villains. The question is, who is the hero and who is the villain.
Brutus is one of Julius Caesar’s best friends and is viewed as either a patriot or betrayer. Brutus takes Caesar’s life claiming that it’s for the benefit of Rome just as Caesar is about obtain the Roman Empire essentially. I view Brutus as a betrayer and nothing more than a murderer because of his actions and the blood of Julius Caesar that is undoubtedly staining his hands. Some might disagree and claim him to be a patriot because he fought for what Rome really needed and saved them from Caesar’s rule that would only worsen Rome’s situation and the daily lives of the Roman citizens. Brutus fought for what he believed in that is undeniable, but it’s up to you and me to decide whether or not those beliefs made him into a betrayer or patriot.
Different people have different thoughts of being a hero. Where if it’s being intelligent, full of courage and bravery or if it encounters dedications and loyalty. The quantities and characteristics that make up a hero to me is that they need to have courage and bravery where they would protect their people from any future trouble, also I believe a true hero should be selfless and be able to sacrifice their own life for others. Odysseus was classed as a legendary ‘hero’ in Greek mythology, however many people have questioned if Odysseus really was a hero. Odysseus displayed characteristics from both hero and human, he was full of courage and strength where he challenges to return home to Ithaca and successfully overcome difficult situations
In the world today people consider a hero to be someone like Superman or Spider-Man. In the dictionary a hero is considered or defined as a person of distinguished courage or ability, admired for their brave deeds and noble qualities. Though a hero is thought to be free of mistakes they all have tragic flaws like everyone else. A tragic flaw is explained by Aristotle’s definition, which says that: a tragic hero as a character of great reputation and prosperity whose misfortune is not due to depravity or vice, for the hero is a virtuous man or woman but to an error in judgment resulting from a tragic flaw. Sometimes this flaw is an excess of virtue. In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare
In 1599 Shakespeare wrote the play Julius caesar. The main character of the play Brutus as he represents a tragic hero. being a tragic hero means. He is above us but human And he falls from a high place, He struggles against his own fate, he is guilty of a fatal flaw (honor), he has an epiphany, and by the end of the play, he is dead
I personally think that Brutus was a tad bit of both. If i were to choose just one i would pick Patriot.I choose patriot because , Brutus killed Caesar for the sake of rome. I do believe that Brutus could have taken a much better route and not result to killing. Brutus killed Caesar because its what he felt was right for the place he loved, Rome.
Brutus was in fact a betrayer, and while he did feel sympathy for Caesar after he died, he killed him along with the other conspirators and even started a war of sorts in Rome, causing many to fall in battle- himself included. While Brutus was persuaded by fake letters, no man should be as gullible as him to completely switch sides on only the basis of three anonymous letters that were stuck to his window. Brutus was a villain who felt that he was the hero, more concerned about the safety of the government he loved rather than the friend that he loved.
Is Brutus a hero or a villain in the play of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare? in my eyes, Brutus is not a villain in this play, but in the eyes of a civilian he could be considered as a villain. Also i think that Brutus is an honorable man because even though he killed his best friend he did it for the good of Rome and because he’d rather let one person get killed than the country he loves and is devoted to get destroyed.
Is Brutus a tragic hero? In my opinion Brutus is very much a hero in Julius Caesar, I’m not just saying this just because of his action’s towards Caesar. A lot of people would agree that what Brutus did to Caesar is wrong, I obviously agree that it is a bad thing that he did to Caesar. What he did to Caesar resulted in many deaths, including his. He is a tragic hero because of his such strong relationship and devotion to Rome and the people in it, he also has a strong relationship to Caesar, but he favored Rome more.
One of the critical attitudes regarding the problem of Brutus’s failure is that Brutus is a cold, unappealing leader who refuses to heed the counsel of other. This is proved otherwise in more ways than one. when Brutus wants one of his men to kill him during the battle of Philippi, his soldiers are loyal to him, none of which want to kill their leader, showing that he was in fact a good leader, because if he was not, when given the opportunity to kill him, his men would have taken that chance. Even when Strato agrees to kill him, Strato has to clasp hands with Brutus once more before he can stomach the idea of killing his leader.
Do you believe that brutus was just a backstabbing friend, or really a tragic hero? Marcus Brutus from William Shakespeare’s, Julius Caesar, was a tragic hero in my opinion. I am going to try and convince you that he was and why he was a tragic hero in this essay. Brutus meets all of the criteria of a tragic hero. He is arguably the protagonist of the play; he has a fatal flaw that leads to his downfall, which he cannot recover from. He had good qualities like patriotism, and he was honorable. His tragic flaw was also one of his good qualities, he was honorable. He killed someone he loved for the good of his country. Brutus also killed himself for honor. In the following paragraphs I will be explaining all of this.
“A tragic hero is a literary character who makes a judgment error that inevitably leads to his/her own destruction,” (Aristotle). Aristotle believed that a character was a tragic hero if they made a decision or decisions that lead to their death in the end. I do believe Brutus was a tragic hero .Brutus had a need to be in power and also the decisions he made to get that caused his death in the end and also his tragic flaw made him a tragic hero.
The definition of a tragic hero fits Brutus perfectly. A tragic hero is a character who makes an error in judging, which leads to his or her own destruction. Brutus betrayed Julius Caesar, the leader of the Roman’s. Brutus did this by stabbing Caesar and killing him for good.
Marcus Brutus exemplifies prominence, a characteristic of being a tragic hero, by being a highly respected leader in Roman society. He is highly regarded in society because of his long line ancestors. His ancestors were one of the first citizens of Rome. He is married to Portia, who is the daughter of a politician named Cato the Younger. Brutus is the best orator in ancient Rome. He is well regarded by all in the Roman society. Marcus Brutus to be considered to be an honorable and noble man who displays great leadership. Antony remarks, “This was the noblest Roman of them all.” (V.v.68) He is a close friend to Caesar who is envious of his power. Caesar is a Roman dictator and all the common people of Rome love him, but Brutus receives some
