Is the co-education arrangement a good idea?
Introduction: The ancient Greek philosopher, Plato, said that Co-education creates a feeling of comradeship. He advocated teaching of both the male and female sexes in the same institution without showing any discrimination in imparting education.
In recent years, a growing number of parents are choosing to send their children to single sex school. Some parents don’t want their children to be in mixed-gender classrooms because at certain ages students of the opposite sex can be a distraction and most important of all entering single sex school means the high academic achievement. Single-sex education is an old approach that is gaining its new momentum now.

Co-Education means the teaching of both boys and girls in the same school and under the same roof. It also means imparting the same education to both the sexes without any distinction. This system of education aims at bringing boys and girls together. It allows free mixing of sexes without any inhibition.
The first advantage that can be discussed is competition. When schools are mixed, the students compete to show who is more intelligent. Competition provokes students to obtain higher marks, to create more ideas, and to excel in their studies. In addition, since there are some very shy students in the class, competition will encourage them to overcome their shyness and try to compete so that they can make a difference in their study.
In addition to creating competition, coeducational schools also help increase students’ self-confidence. When boys and girls attend the same classroom, their self-confidence will increase. Every boy and girl will express him or herself more freely. This will strengthen the boy’s and girl’s personality. Girls will be less shy in expressing their ideas. Boys will be less rushing in forcing their ideas. That will detect the hidden side in the students’ personality, and help them to determine what field they can innovate in the future.
The third advantage is co-operation between the two genders. Co-operation enriches the relationship between boys and girls. On the other hand, it helps weaker students of

Educational institutions that promote multiculturalism are beneficial, in that they prepare students for the increasing diversity in the workplace. An environment with diversity establishes values and builds character. It assists students in accepting and understanding the cultures to which their acquaintances belong to, as well as broadening their knowledge of the world.
It is no secret that schools are always looking for new ways to improve and make their students shine. As students progress in school, the teachers give out more homework, the classes become more difficult, and the students themselves are faced with the decisions of which classes to take and how hard they want to push themselves. Boys and girls alike will choose their own future, and the school will try their hardest to push them in the right direction of life. Now, schools are becoming more keen to the idea of separating the students into single-gender classrooms. After doing so, the test scores of the students had become much higher, and the personalities of boys and girls alike grew to mature levels faster than students who were in coed classrooms.
With the mushroom growth of schools and colleges in every nook and cranny, there is another trend in education that has increased overtime; this pertains to increasing co-education schools and colleges. Single gender approach or getting the girls and boys taking education in separate classrooms, schools or colleges is prevalent since long, yet the new trends in education are also leading to a co-education system (Spielhagen, 2008). Despite of a rising trend of co-education system, the debate on whether there be gender separation in colleges and schools always remain there. There is still a huge number of parents who take it a biggest task to decide whether their child will get education in a co-education or single education school.

The article goes into great detail over the fact that co-teaching, when implemented correctly, has the potential of really enhancing the learning of all students (Conderman & Hedin, 2014, p.359). Before any co-teaching can happen though the article elaborates on the fact that a teacher needs to know who their students are. And when differentiating instruction a teacher needs to be able to address a “students’ unique strengths, interest, skills, and readiness” (Conderman & Hedin, 2014, p. 353). After all helping each child learn, whatever that looks like, is the ultimate goal, and this article shows how teachers can do this with a co-teacher.
This will also promote a student to work independently.Different ways of Learning-Teachers will provide more than one way for each child to learn appropriately.-Teacher will recognize that each student is different and come from a different background in life, so several outlooks on certain subjects will be used.
The fact that my school was diverse was a gift. I met all sorts of people from different races, religion and even sexualities. Everyone there respected each other 's ethnicities and each of us are creative with different ideas from our culture. With diversity we can feel comfortable working with different people and have connections with them. If the schools weren’t diverse, the minorities would have a hard time fitting in and getting involved with the school. If the classroom wasn’t diverse, how could we learn from other people’s cultures and point of view. My friends introduced me to their culture and I honestly had the best experience of my life. I got to learn different dishes such as Shchi, a Russian dish, and dimsum, from Chinese’s style buffet. I started to learn and notice different race and learned to appreciate their culture. Diversity can also causes problems. Katherine W. Philippis
Revisiting the article, How Racially Diverse Schools and Classrooms Can Benefit All Students, it stated that employers seek employers that can work with customers from diverse backgrounds (Wells). Living on a campus that includes people from different racial backgrounds prepares one for the workfield where interaction with different people is a daily task. This diversity allows students to succeed and be comfortable in any field that they choose. Students will have an easier time adapting to a workplace because they will already be tolerant of other
In addition, this exposure to diversity will bring attributes that will be transferable to the workforce. In some freshman learning communities, the students are not only in class together, but living together as well.
As a child, i went to a co-ed school with both boys and girls. We had a lot of fun. These articles may lead one to believe co-ed schools are not good for children. That is not always the truth. The 1990s are much different than nowadays. A lot has changed throughout schools such as having a seating chart, the sports are organized by genders, and gym locker rooms are divided by the two genders. Kids tend to be happier when around a mix of genders. The passage "Co-Ed Schools are Here to Stay" has a lot of support for keeping co-ed schools.
Students will have a better understanding of their peers and teachers if their environment is multicultural
Educational institutions benefit from various diversities because more people will feel comfortable in seeking higher education giving the school a touch of
When I first heard about co-teaching, I was observing at a middle school. I was able to sit in on multiple classes that were considered co-teach classes. Being able to do this really sparked my interest to learn more about co-teaching. Co-teaching is two or more teachers, the general education teacher and the special education teacher, collaborating together to make their lesson serve the needs of the general education students, as well as the special education students in the class. Although, not all strategies work for everyone, including co-teaching, studies have shown that students with high-incidence disabilities, actually worsened in a co-teaching class. No, it doesn’t necessarily meet the need for every student, but does for the majority of the students.
Co-teaching has been adjusted throughout the years and it isn’t until now that many schools began heavily adopting the model in their classrooms. In the 1980’s, many schools accepted the principals of inclusive schooling. This meant that services for special education could be offered in general education classrooms and this began the revolution that is now known as co-teaching. It wasn’t until 2001 with No Child Left Behind Act, that all students, including those with disabilities, be taught by highly
