78% of 3,251 requests for euthanasia were from patients with cancer in the year 2012. It depends in what countries you are in some consider euthanasia the same as assisted suicide, but others would say differently. It also depends on the case and what happened in it. Euthanasia is known of a painless way of ending someone’s life. Euthanasia case is growing more and more. Euthanasia is wrong it isn’t a natural death and individual still have time to live, why cut their life short.
Types of euthanasia are voluntary is when they chose to do it. Involuntary would be when someone else choses for them, for explain if someone is brain dead a family member might pull the plug. Passive is when the medication is toxic for the patient. Active is when

First the patients has to request euthanasia, depending on a lot of matters they will get a response in several days or a couple weeks. In some cases after the patient was accepted for euthanasia they set a date for when it shall be done. Some revive the desire to live again when they are saying bye to their loved ones. Before they can be accepted to continue with the process of euthanasia, 3 physicians must examine them to see if they requested in when they are in their right state of mind. Physicians have to be trained for them to be able to preform the evaluate, it could not be just any physician. For euthanasia the patient can choose either lethal drug that is given like a shot or food/fluids that they consume. In several minutes they kill you painlessly. Euthanasia for infants also exists, if the infant has an illness that is eventually going to die. Parents choose to let them die painlessly. When patients with hold treatment it’s different than euthanasia, this would be called acceptable removal of medical treatment. In some countries euthanasia ands assisted suicide are two different things, but some would define it …show more content…
If they are suffering from depression or any kind of mental illness, they should be treated. Even if they have pain from a sickness that killing them, most of the time they have medicine that can control the pain. Or reduce the speed of the illness and give them more time. Reason why euthanasia is such a controversial topic is because of the doctors’ role, Morals, religious arguments, guilt, and the patient might recover. Some individual still have many years to live. If they also don’t evaluate the patients right how do they now that the person is right for euthanasia and that is their last option? An other reason why its wrong is because they might get better but, they will never know because their like was cut short. Not all the test that doctors run are 100% right, so they might have had a change. De.Wachter “believes that psychiatrist shouldn’t kill people. If they are suffering extremely, there might be a way to help. That’s not a permanent solution like euthanasia.” (source 4) . With involuntary euthanasia, the patient should not have someone else chose for them because it isn’t their life. You can look at anyone’s point of view when they want euthanasia, no matter what the situation is, it isn’t right. For euthanasia there is no law that requires the individual to have proof of their unbearable pain. So anyone can say that they have pain but it might just be a lie. They also don’t have right cautions;
To fully understand the issue at hand, one must understand the various forms of euthanasia. The Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary: Tenth Edition defines euthanasia as “the act or practice of killing or permitting the death of hopelessly sick or injured individuals…in a relatively painless way for reasons of mercy.” Euthanasia can be either passive or active. Passive euthanasia occurs when a patient is relieved of medical treatment and is allowed to die naturally. Active euthanasia occurs when either a physician or a family member actively takes the life of the patient, perhaps through lethal injection, and eliminates a natural death process. Many people commonly use the word “euthanasia” to refer to assisted suicide. Essentially, assisted suicide is a form of active euthanasia in that a person, usually a physician, aids in the suicide of a patient.
Euthanasia, as defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is considered to be, “the act or practice of killing someone who is very sick or injured in order to prevent any more suffering” (2015).Within this can be found different methods of euthanasia including passive or indirect euthanasia which requires withholding of basic life-saving measures such as oxygen, nutrition, hydration, or resuscitation. Another form is direct euthanasia which can be caused by administered drugs, injections, or suffocation. In its entirety, euthanasia has been debated as an ethical issue through its many forms and reasoning (Methods of euthanasia, 2011).
There are multiple types of physician assisted suicide. Collectively, they fall under the categories: active or passive euthanasia. Active euthanasia is when someone steps in and deliberately ends a life. An example of this would be a physician administering a lethal dose of muscle relaxants to end the life of a patient. Passive euthanasia is best described as when a patient withdraws from a life preserving treatment. Euthanasia in general can also be classified as either voluntary, non-voluntary, and involuntary. Voluntary euthanasia is when a person makes the conscious decision to end his or her life. Non-voluntary euthanasia is when a person is unable to give their consent, and another person makes this decision on their behalf. This usually is the case for patients who are in a coma who have previously expressed this wish. Involuntary euthanasia is when a person is killed against their wishes. Involuntary euthanasia is almost always considered
If someone has a life threating disease and wishes death, it should be granted to them. The prolonging of the suffering of dying patients is an unethical practice that should be stopped. Euthanasia as of today in the majority of states is illegal. My opinion on Euthanasia is that it should be legalized because the patients get to die with dignity, on their own terms
The word euthanasia, when translated, means "good death." Physician- assisted suicide is a fast, painless death that every terminally-ill person should have the liberty to choose. Euthanasia is not a drawn out process like many terminally-ill patients have to deal with. However most people want to die at home in peace and euthanasia gives people this right. The author indicates that more than half of Americans die in the hospital and that is a sad occurrence (Kim 171). PAS and euthanasia allows patients freedom from physical pain and emotional suffering. According to Willke, proponents of euthanasia are quick to accuse doctors of not letting a patient die in peace (1). The author states there are two different definitions for euthanasia. First voluntary active euthanasia is intentionally administering medications to cause the patient's death at the
Within the scope of euthanasia are passive and active euthanasia. Passive euthanasia occurs when a patient refuses access to medical care or treatments, as is allowed by their freedom to legally choose whatever treatment they wish to receive or withhold (Stoyles et al 683). However, their decision to withhold from receiving treatments may result in a hastening of their death. Passive euthanasia is legal in the United States (Stoyles et al 683). However active euthanasia is illegal and is often misconstrued as being identical to physician-assisted suicide. Despite similarities, they are different in technical terms. Both euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide have the same intent and end result. However in euthanasia, the doctor is responsible for administering the lethal injection or other agent of death. In physician assisted suicide, the physician prescribes the patient a lethal injection which the patient will themselves administer (Boudreau et al 2). In both cases, the patient consents to the treatment, but only physician-assisted suicide is legal in certain states within the United States.
Euthanasia or physician assisted suicide, is the painless killing of a patient, suffering from a painful or incurable disease, like cancer, or alzheimer 's, the practice is illegal in most countries, including the United States, although in the United States, it is a state decision, the only state in the United States that it is legal in is Oregon. Oregon passed the Death with Dignity Act in 1994, making euthanasia legal for chronically ill patients, the only caveat is that the doctor is allowed to prescribe the medication, but they are not allowed to administer the drugs, the patient must do that themselves (Arnold, 17, 2004). Euthanasia is a controversial topic that can spark many different feelings. Some people may feel that if they are suffering that they want to end their pain, or if they have a fatal illness that they just want to speed the process along. Others, generally not a patient that is in the situation that would be in a position to consider euthanasia as a real option, feels that it is murder and morally wrong. As a potential social worker, I must say that I feel that euthanasia is wrong and should not be practiced in any form. I feel that palliative or end of life care that would make the patient more comfortable in their final days is a more valuable option than ending a life prematurely with the assistance of a doctor.
People have different perspectives and views on Euthanasia or Physician-assisted suicide and how they should or should not be legal. In some cases people feel as if the patient who are suffering from a terminal painful disease should have the right to commit suicide in other cases people feel as if the patient is being selfish to end their life when you have loved ones that are going to suffer because they killed themselves. People feel it should or should not be legal because of right to die, living wills, and Hippocratic Oath.
Euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide, can legally help end terminally ill patients lives if they have no chance of getting better, so they are not forced to be in pain anymore. Not only is the patient suffering but the family is as well. Some people don’t have the money to keep giving their loved ones treatment to make them feel better. Not only this, but there is no point of giving the loved one treatment if they have no chance of getting better. In the United States there are only a few states that legalized euthanasia. Some of these states are Washington, Oregon, Colorado, California, Vermont, Montana, and DC. This is a really controversial topic still and the laws are so different country to country, like the Netherlands and Belgium.
Medical News today classifies Euthanasia as "assisted suicide, physician-assisted suicide (dying) , doctor-assisted dying (suicide) , and more loosely termedmercy killing". Regardless of what anyone says the idea behind Euthanasia is to end someone's suffering, and this is specifically done by a physician or those in a caregivers role. Ending of the suffering is only done when the person's life is ended and typically it would be done in a manner that is not adding more to the individuals current state of suffering.
It’s essential to understand that there are a few forms of euthanasia. The first form would be DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) which translates to letting someone die. Under this circumstance we are no further helping someone who is suffering from a serious illness for the sake of mercy. DNR is mostly legal under many circumstances such as living will. This can also entail a person to refuse any further treatment toward their ailment that keeps them alive. As a result the person will eventually pass away.
Euthanasia is the act of a physician or other third party ending a patient's life in response to severe pain and suffering. Euthanasia can be classified into three types. They are voluntary euthanasia, non-voluntary euthanasia and involuntary euthanasia. Involuntary euthanasia is the action that takes the patient’s life without any informed consent of the patient but the patient may want to live.
Society views suicide as an unreasonable and inconsiderate action since there are many alternate avenues of help that a person could resort to. In the case of Euthanasia for a terminally ill being, there is no option to make things better. There is only medication that prolongs the death by temporally numbing the pain. One must imagine what the patient is feeling and at some point and set aside their feelings to be more understanding to that of the patient.
When it comes to the topic of euthanasia most people readily agree that it can be a good thing for those who are terminally ill. On the other hand some people disagree with euthanasia because they say there is medical technology and medication that can be used to help with the pain and symptoms. My own view on the matter is that it can be a good thing for those who have a terminal illness because it isn’t fair that we make them suffer through the pain just because we aren’t ready to let them go or because we don’t necessarily agree with their choice to be euthanized.
