At the age of four, Colton Burpo, during emergency surgery slips from consciousness and enters heaven. He survives and begins talking about being able to look down and see the doctor operating and his dad praying in the waiting room. The family did not know what to believe but soon the evidence was clear. Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his grandfather who died thirty years before Colton was born, then shared impossible-to-know details about each. He describes the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how “reaaally big” God and his chair are, and the Holy Spirit “shoots down power” from heaven to help us. So, does God exist? Throughout my life I have heard different opinions as to …show more content…
Knowledge is based on demonstrable facts, verifiable evidence. It 's not just an opinion or a person 's wishful thinking. The bible says that we must accept by faith the fact that God exists “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6) If God so desired, He could simply appear and prove to the whole world that He exists. If he did that, there would be no need for faith. The fact that God is knowable is evidenced by the very gift of the Bible as God’s revelation of Himself to man. 1 John 5:20 says “And we know that the son of God has come, and has given us understanding in order that we might know Him who is true, and we are in Him, in His son Jesus Christ. This the true God and eternal life. God exists because we speak to Him every day. We do not hear him audibly hear him speaking to us, but we sense His presence, we feel His leading, we know His love, we desire His grace. God has so miraculously saved us and changed our lives that we cannot help but acknowledge and praise His existence. There is many reasons why atheist seem to not believe in God. One reason would be because faith is unreliable. A common characteristic of both theism and religion in their reliance on faith: belief in the existence of God and in the truth of religious doctrines of neither founded upon nor defended by logic, reason, evidence, or
We all have our own picture of what we imagine Heaven will look like. In this book, three-year-old, Colton Burpo tells the reader about his experience to Heaven and back. Through this family’s rough year, narrator Todd Burpo shares his family’s experience in hopes to encourage others to stay strong during tough times in their lives.
The book is called Heaven Changes Everything. From the authors of Todd & Sonja Burpo. The book is about a boy who can see Jesus and tells the rest of his story. If you seen the movie then you would understand the true meaning of the book. Colton made an unforgettable trip to heaven when he was 4 year old. This book gave hope to millions of readers. In Heaven Changes Everything, the Burpos share details about the experience of Colton’s visit to heaven. Also, it gives quotes from the bible like, “ I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.-John 14:3 NIV.”
The question “Is God real?” has been speculated for years and years. It is one of the main questions that is still being asked in today’s world, with movies, music and media surrounding it. The popular movies that have recently been released such as “God’s Not Dead” and “Heaven is for Real,” are perfect examples of this, with millions going to see them, and supporting the assumption that there is a God and place called Heaven. Millions of people assert their faith of God on a daily basis by claiming to pray to him, and doing things in order to bring him glory; the Bible is a major component that people turn to in order to support their claim that God is real, and is still apart of our everyday life. However, there is a side that states God is not real and he will not return. Major arguments for this side would be through certain catastrophic events that occurred, such as the Boston bombings or the attack on 9/11. The nonbelievers state that if there was a God he would not put his people through that; and also the argument of evolution, and how man came to be. As for me, I believe that God is indeed real, because the stories of Jesus told through the Bible, the amount of people that claim to have first-hand experience of both God and heaven, how Moses obtained the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai, and how life events are interconnected to teach us lessons.
One consistency in both texts of the Meno (Meno 99c) and Republic (Republic 472d) is that people who use true belief cannot show or explain how their belief is the truth. I believe this is one of the largest distinctions between knowledge and true belief. Knowledge is
The argument for the existence of God has been a debate for many centuries. God, in terms of philosophy, must be a supernatural being that: is all-knowing, is all-powerful, and is all-good. Theists believe God exists based on these terms; atheists on the other hand don’t believe in God. Atheists believe that if there is evil present in the universe, then there is no possible way God can exist if he is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent. Evil is defined in three different categories: human evil (evil we humans cause), natural evil (not in our control, of the Earth), and sufferings of the heart (not necessarily human/natural evil). The argument for the problem of evil is that God doesn’t exist because evil exists. In
Does God exist? That question has been asked by people for centuries. Christians, Jews, and Muslims would all say that God exists. They would claim that He is the creator of all things and is of a higher being than man is. Others would claim either that God does not exist or that God is not what the Christians, Jews, and Muslims say He is. Both Anselm and Aquinas address this question: Anselm in his "Proslogion" and Aquinas in his "Summa Theologica." The opinions of Anselm and Aquinas as to the nature of God are the same, although Anselm lacks the proof to back up his claims.
The question is that is it possible to prove the existence of God in a strictly scientific? Answer is incredibly straightforward that there is no individual in the world who could come back with a solid proof whether God exists or not. One of the primary difficulties is the lack of a general characterization of the existence or nonexistence of which is required to be proved. First of all, for the benefit of further narrative, I would like to give the most general definition of "God" as far as possible including all possible variations. Consider our world as a great computer stylish game or a social network. For such a system may well be the one who designed it, created, wrote and performs systemic organization (Everitt N.p.). If you doubt the presence of Facebook creator and administrator of this network, it will look at least strange.
The existence of God is a topic that humanity has wrestled with since perhaps the beginning. The view of God from various cultures and civilizations differs in a sense, but remains true to the entity of what it means to be a deity. Each culture throughout history has been able to put their spin on what it means to be a god, whether it be in the form of Zeus for the Greeks, Mars for the Romans, or Brahma for the Hindus. However, among each of these cultures a god is still a divine being capable of powers beyond the reach of the human and mortal dimension. In The Last Question, Isaac Asimov illuminates a unique perspective on what it is to be a god, human relationship to God, and the form a god can take. In the short science fiction, a super-computer
1. Because of man’s ignorance and curiosity, arguments for the existence of God have been made over the years. Basically, these arguments are divided into two large groups i.e. logical and metaphysical. Actually, these arguments seek to prove that the existence of a being or having faith with at least one attribute that only God could have is logically necessary.
Colton shows this to his Daddy through physical demonstration. Colton also explains to his Dad that “Everybody has wings” in Heaven. Everybody but Jesus has wings, so when the angels are flying, Jesus is ascending. Another one of Colton’s experiences is when he met Pop, his Great Grandfather. His father finds this out because Colton asked whether if Pop was his mom’s father or his dad’s father. However, when Todd showed Colton a picture of Pop when he was old Colton had responded by being unfamiliar with the picture. He told his father that “nobody is old in heaven…and nobody wears glasses.” When Todd showed him a picture of Pop when he was younger and without glasses though Colton recognized him. When Colton went to Heaven, he also met his baby sister. Colton described her as being small and having dark hair like her mom. Colton said that his sister wanted everyone to know that she was okay and she was doing well, “Jesus adopted her.” This was significant for Colton’s mother because it helped her defeat her guilt for having a miscarriage and it helped her to start healing.
However, to the point of God actually existing I am skeptical. Many people turn to the Bible to bring proof to the table of any doubters like myself. While the bible brings forth some interesting facts that we all would like to believe, it does not necessarily make them true. The bible is not evidence itself because it cannot be confirmed as it is thousands of years old. Who knows, it could have been mistaken to be a bible when it was really just a compilation of short stories over a long period of time. Another claim that tries to prove god is real, is Decartes 3rd Meditation which states; If we have a clear and distinct idea of god, than a cause must be as great as its effect this idea cannot come from an imperfect thing like myself. Therefore, God must exist.(Pojman128) This would be true if the first two points could not be challenged. I can simply deny ever having the idea of god, and no evidence is provided for the second idea it is just an assertion that we, apparently an imperfect thing can ever think of something that we are not, which is simply not true. Perfection is based on the eye of the beholder, we all have different ideas of perfection, whether it is great being of pureness, greatness or whatever the case may be. I also choose bring about Bertrand Russell’s argument that since God is all-loving, all-knowing, and
The existence of God has been in question for as long as mankind has existed and thought logically. Many questions have plagued the human mind in regards to God, and there have been many arguments drawn with the hopes of proving the existence of a supreme being whom we know as God. The “God” question has been presented to every individual at some point in their lives. It is a topic that will bring forth never-ending questions and an equal amount of attempted answers. Many philosophers have formulated different rationales when examining the topic of God, some of which include how the word itself should be defined, what his role is in human existence, whether or not he loves us, and ultimately, if he even exists at all. Mankind cannot
Truth, what is truth? This question itself has a thousand answers, no person can ever be sure of what truth is rather, truth can be justified, it can checked for reliability with strong evidences and logic. If the evidence proves to be accurate then it can be established that a certain answer is the truth. However, have we ever tried to think about what intrigues us to seek the truth? To think about a question and set foot firmly on the path of knowledge. Definitely it has! That was the very cause itself which is why this world has witnessed some of the greatest philosophers like Aristotle, Plato and Socrates etc. along with the school of thought. The ability to think and reason is one of the greatest ability humans have, it is what
The existence of God is a question that has troubled and plagued mankind since it began to consider logic. Is there a God? How can we be sure that God exists? Can you prove to me that He is real? Does His existence, or lack thereof, make a significant difference? These loaded questions strike at the heart of human existence. But the real question is, can we answer any of them? These questions are answered in the arguments of St. Thomas Aquinas, Blaise Pascal and St. Anselm of Canterbury. For thousands of years, theologians, philosophers and scientists have been trying to prove or disprove God’s existence. Many, including the three mentioned above, have strong proofs and theories that attempt to confirm God’s existence. Although, without any scientific evidence, how can they be entirely sure? “Philosophical proofs can be good proofs, but they do not have to be scientific proofs,” (Kreeft). Gravity similar to God’s existence ; it cannot be seen nor explained, yet it still exists. With faith, reason, understanding and even some math, God’s existence can be verified rationally.
Proof Of The Exsistence of God Either God exists or He doesn't. There is no middle ground. Any attempt to remain neutral in relation to God's existence is automatically synonymous with unbelief. The question for God's existence is really important. Does God exist? Theology, cosmological, teleological and ontological arguments are all have ways to prove the existence of God. With all of these great arguments how can one deny that there is a God. There is a God and with these reasons I will prove that.
