Golf is a sport for many reasons, the biggest being that golf meets to definition of a sport. Golf in the United States is a $76 billion annual industry with 25.7 million players. The debate over whether or not golf is a sport wages on the internet, in bars, amongst sportswriters, and even on the golf course. Golfing goes all the back to the 11th century in France, but was official discovered and called golf in the 1300’s in Scotland. Golfing requires physical exertion and coordination, is recognized by a sport by sporting goods store and media, golf burns more calories than other sports, and is also included in the Olympics.
Golf meets the definition of a “sport” found in many dictionaries including the most trustworthy dictionary and thesaurus of American English the Merriam Webster Dictionary. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a sport as “physical activity engaged in for pleasure: a particular activity (as an athletic game).” I think that anyone can agree on the fact that golf fits Merriam-Webster’s definition of a sport. For another example, Dictionary.com says a sport is “an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling,

The TV guide lists golf events under sports programs. Golf even has an anti-doping policy and conducts drug tests on the players because performance enhancing drugs could improve a player's results. Professional golfer also has close to the same salary as other professional sports players. The typical PGA player makes over $700,000 a year. The typical female PGA golfer makes a little over $100,000 a year. A player in the National Football league makes around $1.9 million a year, and Major League Soccer players making around $160,000 a
