We have all read heroic stories of a cartoon character, celebrity, or superhero. Have you read a story about Odysseus and how he became a role model and a hero? Odysseus has shown several heroic situations that make you want to consider him as a hero. After reading the story, I have concluded that Odysseus has leadership skills, makes sacrifices, shows teamwork, and save others' lives. In this essay, I will be telling you multiple reasons why Odysseus play a heroic ruler.
Odysseus went out his way to explore his adventures by being a heroic man. He also encountered some rocky roads while being an excellent leader to his team. He has shown us what it takes to be a hero and how long it takes to achieve the goal. "We beached there, and I told

He had to make some decisions that he didn’t want to make, but he did it anyway. Good leaders make difficult decisions. Also, he understood that it was going to be hard for him and his crew to get home without getting caught up. "Rag man that I am, is the end of me? I fear the goddess told it all too well, predicting great adversity at the sea and far from home" (V:309-312). He said he is here but not is coming towards my ending after all the travels and hard work I did I am now suffering because it is my last and I am ready to go home. Odysseus is telling us that after he finishes, he is ready to go back even though the sea is far away. Reminds me of going to work early in the morning and getting off late in the evening. Even though you are tired, the clocking is still running its course and ticking regardless of if you are ready to go or not. Odysseus is informing us that it takes time to get where you supposed to be. Not all adventures are going to be unchallenging when trying to get home. Odysseus takes this unchallenging situation and tries to turn it into real-life situations. This poem reflects off us because Odysseus warns us by saying suffering is a struggle trying to reach the top and towards the ending. Even though it leads you to somewhere that isn't a good place you have to make a way to complete the ending even if it ends on a bad note. In my opinion, reading this story it …show more content…
The main reasons why he played a heroic role is because he made choices that he had to make for him to get far. He let others know that he was a well-known person but he played a secretive role in keeping himself hidden. Odysseus made sure when someone finds out about him they better be ready to know who is and why is he there. "My name is Nohbdy: mother father and friends, everyone calls me Nohbdy" (IX:394-399). Odysseus tells his cunning and intellect on a trick to Cyclops. He is a hero with intelligent and uses his mind as a great weapon. He lets others know who he is by letting others representing him. His family, friends and everyone is saying he is Nohbdy because he doesn’t want anyone to know his name. He didn’t want the Cyclops to find out. When they find out what his name is, he is ready for war with his crew coming right along with him. Odysseus shows his respect for the gods. He felt like they would not be happy with him if he doesn't find a way to get out of trouble. "We can entreat you, great Sir, have a care for the god’s courtesy; Zeus well avenges the unoffending guest" (IX:82-84). Although, invoking Zeus name here Odysseus way was trying to come at peace by getting out of trouble with Polyphemus. He believed that the god's way is the best way to going and trying to change yourself and staying out of trouble. I can relate to this situation
In The Odyssey, Odysseus goes on a long journey in which he takes part in dangerous adventures. Odysseus is an example of Homer’s greek hero. He is a leader of his people and they depend and follow him. Odysseus is brave; he believes in himself and trusts that he is doing the right thing. Odysseus values his honor and is confident in himself.
Odysseus shows that he’s a hero when he brings his man home. Odysseus demonstrates exceptional leadership skills throughout his journey. He leads his men through various challenges, making difficult decisions and inspiring them to persevere. Additionally, in Book 12, Odysseus demonstrates his leadership by preventing his crew from succumbing to the enchanting song of the Sirens, ordering them to plug their ears and tie him to the mast. In Book 12 lines 13-18, it says “Plug your oarsmen’s ears with beeswax kneaded soft; none of the rest should hear the song.
Odysseus is a hero because he does things for other people. During his journey, Odysseus does many things to help his crew out. One example on how he helped his crew out is in book 9, “I shot back with my crafty way, ‘My ship? Poseidon god of the earthquake smashed my ship, drove it against the rocks at your island’s far cape…”(220, 318-320). This quote is from the part of the book where they get past the cyclops.
One big reason I believe Odysseus is not a hero is his actions. While he was on his journey back home to Ithaca, he showed a sense of entitlement. This shows how the way he treats others like his own crewmembers. In book 9 Odysseus blinded the Cyclops and he says his true identity, which leads to many hardships for him and his crewmembers. “Cyclops, you asked my name, and I will tell you: give me afterwards a guest gift as you promised" (book 9).
As a final point, being brave, strong, and making a quick decisions was many kinds of being a hero and that’s what Odysseus had that make him a hero. Odysseus with his men going through a lot of challenges but in the end he is the only one survived and alive. With this in mind, the epic poem showed us how big the difference between the people 3,000 years ago and people in this generation. The author shows in the epic poem how whimsical the world 3,000 years ago and how powerful the gods in their maturity.
Odysseus is the main character in an epic poem called the Odyssey. In the poem Odysseus has had some bad luck getting home, with some of the gods helping him and some hindering him; his journey towards home is a constant struggle. In this poem we see a man being broke and rebuilt, through constant irony his faith was damaged and without the help of Athena he probably would have given up on his journey. Through his hard work and wise spirit he finally does achieve his goal.
In the Greek literature of mythology, we have examined Odysseus. Students and scholars alike debate whether Odysseus was a true hero, as read in The Odyssey. There is much supporting evidence to prove all sides of the debate and opinions held of Odysseus. It is of my opinion that Odysseus is a hero in his homeland, his family, the Greek people, and for us to learn from to this day. Odysseus had encompassed three many qualities that I believe made him a hero. He embodied, mental strength, physical strength, and spiritual strength. I would like to advocate for why Odysseus was a hero.
First, Odysseus is not a hero because he is a foolish leader who makes many mistakes on his journey back home to Ithaka. His first mistake is his decision to let his men raid and
How heroic is Odysseus? According to today’s society, not really. Life in Ancient Greece was different then it is today. When most people think of a hero they think of Batman or Superman who always give everything for the people they protect. Odysseus is not a hero because he is very selfish, disloyal, and cocky.
Odysseus is a hero because he acts courageously while facing the many challenges he encounters. Odysseus’s shows great bravery when he engages in physical challenges. Odysseus daringly fights against the suitors, while significantly outnumbered: “For I must
Odysseus, king of Ithaca, was probably on of the greatest warriors in the history of Ancient Greece. It is said that the poet, Homer, wrote the story of the Odyssey. In this story, Odysseus and his crew are trying to make their voyage back home to Ithaca after they have fought with the Trojans. During the long journey, Odysseus will show some of his character traits which include his bravery, cleverness, and wisdom that will assist him with the situations he encounters on his journey home.
There are many challenges and obstacle during the adventure of Odysseus, which tortures him a lot, but he is still determined to go home and never gives up, which proves his courage and strength as a hero. Odysseus’ loyalty, courage, and strength portray his heroic image. Even with the presence of the immortals, who are with great power, Odysseus, as one of the mortals, who are believed as not comparable to the immortals, is still determined to go home and overcomes any obstacle in his voyage. Hence, his heroic image would not be weakened by the
Odysseus was a great leader and hero throughout the story in many examples as I have listed below. My first example is when Odysseus was able to make a spear when he was in Polyphemus's cave. He then took the spear and drove it through the eye of the beast, blinding him. The cyclops then moved the boulder and the men escaped by hiding under sheep. This example shows that O. is a hero because he is daring. If the cyclops was to find any of them or he had missed and woken him then this surely would have meant death for them. The second reason is in book twelve when O. must pass the sirens. To do so he slabs beeswax on the ears of his shipmates. This will make it so them can not be lured into the captivity of the sirens. O. then lashes himself
In the beginning, he was asked to fight for his country and win back Helen. He left his kingdom and his family and sailed to Troy. Known for his intellect and strategy, he defeated Troy by coming up with the idea to offer a “gift” of a gigantic wooden horse to Troy. When the army accepted it, Odysseus and his men popped out and slaughtered all of Troy, winning the battle for Greece. “Oh man! You can't count how many good things Odysseus has done for the Greeks, a real leader in council and in battle....” (Iliad 2.294-6) This proves that Odysseus is a hero because a hero would not have gotten the main goal done. The Greek army could not have defeated Troy without his skills. No one else would’ve come up with such an unanticipated strategy. Though defeating Troy is not the only evidence of heroism. Odysseus also had the strength of
In the book The Odyssey, a general from Ithaca, named Odysseus, has gone through a long journey to get home from the war in Troy. He and his crew have faced many rigorous unexpected challenges on their way home. On this journey, Odysseus has tried to be the hero and have everyone come out alive, but he was not successful. The actions of Odysseus, during his journey, does not qualify him as a hero. He is dishonest to his crew and friends and he takes them for granted.
