Is Technology Use In Class Really Worth It?
Technology use is very common in most people’s everyday lives because of what society and innovation has brought this generation to become, when it comes to ways of communicating with others, all the way down to getting a job done. So of course these past few years school districts have decided to put technology to use in their classrooms by providing chromebooks for students and so on, but the real question is , is it worth it ? I do not believe so. Although pros and cons exist in all, I believe the classroom environment would be better off without the use of technology. Although the use of technology in classrooms does not mean that teachers, rather than have a lecture with their students will simply tell the students what it is they need to do online and then let’s say, proceed to complete an assignment online also, it is what many teachers have taken

The network span of Wi-Fi is shared throughout school districts, this includes being used for all the chromebooks, teachers computers, technology in the office, all of these are self reliant on the Wi-Fi. This is where the lagging begins , power outages and problems with Wi-Fi connections easily affect students in being able to complete their tasks. Instead of storing most of the students work online, students should be taught that being organized is an aspect of responsibility instead of giving them the easy way out and having technology store “such and such” for them. Besides there being possible interruption of students tasks, there is also an easier chance for the students to be distracted and possibly cheat. Technology in the classroom is important for teachers, parents, and students alike, because technology use has become a necessary skill for survival in today’s vastly expanding technology driven global economy. Research has shown an increase in student’s success rates when exposed to technology in the classroom. Also technology has opened lines of communication between educators and parents to keep students on track, and help teachers educate better.
Some students may make excuses that are only partially true. Those excuses include “issues” with technology or the internet. Students also lie about using their phones. In some classes, students hide their phones behind their iPad. Students also ask to “use the bathroom,” but many just go to check their phones. I do not know if this is an issue at the upper school, but an unglamorous solution is to let students use their phones during breaks in between classes, and some study halls. Teachers could then take students phones during class. This would allow students to use class time effectively, while doing what they want during break. The school would restrict usage during free time, like lunch. Students also lie to teachers about their iPad usage. Many students watch YouTube or Twitch on their iPads. While that may be okay during study hall, it is distracting for many students. I suggest blocking Twitch on the school internet. YouTube should not be blocked as it is useful for teachers. I realize that these won’t be a widely accepted solutions, but I think that these are necessary steps to

Students often can’t get to educational websites because they’re blocked. Peter H. Lewis from The New York Times says that one small piece of something inappropriate can block the whole website. Students can’t get onto reliable websites if a few words don’t meet the requirements. Another problem is how filters are blocking personal devices. Students do need to be monitored in school, but isn’t getting into their cell phones a little too much?

This effort, however, is useless if students can’t actually use the internet to effectively research and study for school purposes. Many schools across the nation rely on webfilter companies to block “inappropriate” websites for them. These web filters are unnecessary. Schools should have unblocked internet and refrain from using filters because they don’t fulfill their job, they are easy to go around, and they are very stressful.
