In the story, Animal Farm, by George Orwell, the characters show that although there are other qualities that are needed to be a good leader, intelligence is the primary qualification for leadership. Qualification for leadership should be based on intelligence as well as selflessness and integrity. To be selfless is to be unconcerned for oneself, to have integrity is to be always having a moral purpose to one’s action. Napoleon and Snowball both lacked selflessness which makes them bad leaders. Using their intelligence to their advantage, Napoleon and Snowball constantly fight over power. On page 26 it says, “Throughout the spring and summer they worked a sixty-hour week, and in August Napoleon announced that there would be work on Sunday
