The purpose of this news article was to bring light to a topic that adults and non-millennials probably would not comprehend and or understand otherwise about the current generation and what they gravitate towards. Examples of this could be an elderly parent or grandparent wondering why their child/grandchild loves social media so much or a young person being curious of which app they use the most. Mark Bauerlein-- english professor at Emory University, senior editor, and author of “The Dumbest Generation” states that this generation is dumber than the previous generation. I disagree with Bauerlein because millennials have improved their intellectual aspects and writing abilities over the years. Technology has been a huge advantage for this generation because not only do millennials depend on it but also learn to be self taught as well. This generation is constantly being accused of being “ the dumber generation”.

We are provided with a larger starting knowledge base then most, which lends its self to our generation being very skeptical. We are ones that don’t tend to take many things at face value. Since we have grown up in a time where our world around us is changing so rapidly we are forced to take a step back and understand our situation first and react/ form our opinions second. But with this way of approaching the world we fall short a lot of the time to see the small steps that make up the whole picture. Since we are trying so hard to wade through the mass amount information we are bombarded with on a regular basis we have all these over simplified opinions on a lot of subjects without truly understanding them. Take the most recent election for example. You have thousands of adolescents ages 13-20 voicing their opinions on social media without truly knowing what they are talking about. They are going off the small knowledge of the election that they have heard from their parents or the skewed media coverage that pops up on their social media feed. They never spend the time to do any research themselves. This is why, I think we are sometimes labeled as the lazy generation. Our elders see us being slightly educated on a lot of topics but never spending the time to go beyond the

With new lifestyles, morals, technology, and many other changes, looking back on other generations and how the people lived might seem unusual. Two generations now that are living at the same time are the Baby Boomers and the Millennials. The Baby Boomers are people born from 1946 to 1964 in the post-World War II period. There are currently six living generations in the United States, each with different characteristics, beliefs, and values. The things that define each generation’s culture are derived from their history, upbringing, and the lifestyle of their time. Our generation was born between 1980 and 2000. We are called Millennials. More specifically, we grew up in the South, which typically lends itself to being more conservative and religious. These characteristics, along with our instant gratification attitude, define who we are, what we believe, and how we view other generations. For example, we might have differing views with the Silent Generation. Some Millennials may feel the Silent Generation’s social, religious, and economic conservatism is outdated.

The younger generation, of course, is more focused on the internet. Some might say that is what our world revolves around. The internet can tell you anything. Whether or not it will be true is a different story.

Youngsters, nowadays, are tech savvy or computer literate. Adults call these youngsters the “Millennials”. Millennials grew up with what technology can offer like personal computers, gadgets , and the internet. Positive and negative effects, advantage , and disadvantages will always be present.

Generation Y are less brand loyal and the speed of the Internet has helped with the flexibility to change in its fashion, style consciousness and where and how it is communicated with. Lastly, Generation Y whichranges from 1995-2012. According to Generational Kinetics there are currently over 23 million Gen Z in the United States. Gen Z members are still largely kids and adolescents but have earlyindications of being increasingly self-aware, self-reliant, innovative and goal-oriented.One key difference from Millennials and Gen Z is that they don’t remember a time before social media. As a result, they tend to live much more of their entire lives from interacting with friends and family to making major purchases online and via their smartphones. Many may say that this generation is more informed because of all the new technology that this generation has and all the sources right in their hands, but do Millennials really take in that information do they take the time to read the news or is it just there. One may not believe that this generation is more informed, Millennials may have all the information there for them, but do they actually read it and know what is going on in the world.

Do you think this generation is uninformed? Most people think they are because they are always on their phones and that they take advantage of the technology. Some people think they are and that we take advantage of the technology. Connie Cass also believes that this generation is well-informed about what’s happening in the world. She explains how they are broken into different groups. In my opinion, I think this generation is well-informed and they may even know more than you think they do.

There are many challenges everyone faces as they are going into college. First- generation students tend to face more issues than other students. Many have to overcome more challenges and barriers that other students might not have to face. I believe that first- generation students have more obstacles to face than other students. There are many challenges that first- generation’s students have, whether it be finical aid or struggling with having two different cultures, one being your home life and the other being school. I read a couple articles regarding the subject one is What It’s Like to Be the First person in Your Family to Go to College by Liz Riggs and the other one is Q&A: Stanford 's Hazel Markus on how college culture may affect first-generation students by Brooke Donald. These two articles play a big role in explaining why it is extra difficult being a first- generation student verses not being.

Some may say that because of the technology that we have today like texting and social media the younger generations no longer no how to effectively communication with one another. On the other hard, you could argue that because of these tools, we are able to not only communicate better, but quicker and more effectively. Unlike in past generations, breaking news and trends are at our fingertips. It is recorded that it takes less than a minute for a story to break on twitter. In older generations, events would happen and people would not find out until the newspaper came the next day, but now thanks to hashtags and trends we are never out of the loop.

Millennials are the generation that was born in 1982-2004, so most importantly they are the generation that grew up with social media so it is what they understand the most. Social media is a way for them to stay connected to everything from the outside world, and what I mean by that is much like Generation X grew up knowing the ins and outs
