The travelling salesman Willy is a victim of the American dream that sanctifies financial success. He works as a salesman for his entire life and thinks that he deserves more recognition and popularity. He wanted much better future for him and his kids.
His son Biff doesn’t have a plan and he doesn’t know what he wants to do. Willy sees his son Biff as an underachiever. Indeed the only thing that matters in this world for Willy is what we can sell, and what can make money and to have recognition.
Despite his efforts, it’s clear that Willy is not popular, well-liked or good at his job. But instead of realizing that, he tries to make himself feel better by lying to himself and his family. In his world of delusion, he is a successful salesman.
