Is Year-Round Schooling More Effective?
The world is constantly progressing without a break. Why should we take one? “Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family”. We as people on Earth make progress all the time. We have to, the only way to do this is thorough Knowledge and Comprehension. It also takes consistency working at getting smarter not being distracted by knowledge. “A good decision is based on knowledge and not on numbers”. If people would take a chance and look at the small decisions that they make now can make a gigantic change in the future. Even the smallest change now can have a big affect later in life. Even though some people believe there shouldn’t be year round schooling, students would benefit from having year-round schooling because of higher potential, students working more proficiently, and there would be less of a dropout rate.
If there is year round schooling, there is a higher potential level and students would benefit from having year-round schooling. There are year round schooling which would cause a lot less distractions through the school year. “Suppose in the year round school program, there’s a break every six or eight weeks; that means as soon as students begin to feel settled, they’re off again. If shortened breaks come too frequently, as they’d almost have to in the new system, it becomes harder for students to ever get
Year round schooling is better than regular school because, it allows the kids to retain more information and not lose what they learned, they also allow them to graduate earlier with higher retention levels. In discussion of Year Round Schooling, one controversial issue has been whether year round schooling is a good idea or not. People believe that year round schooling is a good thing and that it will increase academic achievement levels and benefit the students more than anything else. Students will also be able to advance more quickly since the schooling is year round, they have less to forget since the breaks are shorter. On the other hand people seem to believe that year round schooling takes away from the students and gives them less family time and less of an “Outside of school life” (NEA). In the research of year round schooling it shows that absences are most likely to be higher since it is year round. Their view is that we think that many students can benefit from year round schooling, and that is has more benefits than anything else.
Did you know that year-round schools in Wake County of North Carolina ended up in the supreme court? Of course not all year-round school ended up in the supreme court, but there are a lot of negative thoughts about year-round school, and mistaken for having less breaks. Year-round Education, short for YRE, is a pretty efficient method, but it can block students from doing all those activities that they can do, like going on a long term vacation. No students would want to work in burning, hot classroom in August. Students would get tired of going to school if they get a such short breaks.
Year-round schooling could make those vacations more difficult. Even though there is a shorter summer break using year-round schooling, there is still enough time for families to go on a long summer vacation. In fact, because of the way a balanced calendar is set up, there are different opportunities for vacations. In year-round schooling there are multiple breaks after each quarter. These can allow families to go on vacation on seasons other than summer, and have more frequent, smaller breaks during the year (Year-round). The cost for plane tickets and some other expenses of a vacation could be reduced. This could occur because if going on vacation during an offseason, plane tickets are generally less expensive (Year-round). With standard schooling there are times when families want to go on vacation. The problem is that there either is not a break that the family could go during, or the break is not long enough for the vacation the family wants (Flanagan). This causes the student to miss school, and with that tests, lessons, and homework. It can be hard for students to get caught up and fully understand the information that they missed during their time off of school (Flanagan). The frequent break would help with this and make planning vacations more easy. Summer vacationing seems difficult with year-round schooling, but there are actually many
Year round schooling may sound scary but read this and I might change your mind. Year round school is pretty much what is sounds like, except it is the same amount of school days as a regular year, and it has more spread out breaks. Year round school would be beneficial because it consist of less review due to “summer slide”, more “family time”, and longer more spread out breaks.
Have you ever thought about how year-round schooling can be beneficial to students? In today’s society, many school districts have been switching from a standard school year to year-round schooling. Year-round schools follow the basic 180 day school year, but the days are more spread out throughout the year following the 45-15 method. Forty five days of school, followed by fifteen day breaks. Year-round schooling is beneficial to many because it prevents students from gaining unwanted weight and causes less stress for teachers and students.
A lot of parents say it cuts into their vacation time. Well there will still be longer breaks and we’re getting crazy but your child can still miss school, as it stands right now it’s 8 absences per semester, that would also change with year round schooling because they would be going to school more so they would have the ability to miss more. Vacation trips shouldn't be an issue, a lot of parents plan trips now when there's school now but cut them short so their child doesn't go over the amount of absent days. Having year round schooling could actually help parents out a lot more, they could make their vacation longer without the fear of having to have their kid make up absents after school or having to go explain the the attendance board what the problem was, and why they were missing school. Year round schooling could help parents students and teachers.
According to the National Association for Year-Round Education, students will be able to advance more rapidly if they did year-round schooling. A by-product of summer break is the dividing of classes based on age. If schooling was year-round, there would be less distinction between one year and the next. This only teaches us to work with people from our generation. If we had year-round schooling we could advance quicker and work with people from different generations, just like how it would be in the future with jobs. Also, the constant learning environment takes away the emphasis of when the student started school and instead emphasizes skill
Since this is a controversial school schedule due to the shorter summer break, each school system should have a string of schools (elementary, middle, and high school) try the schedule out for five-years and track the improvement throughout the years. Teachers no longer feel as if they are on the edge of a breakdown because of the new system. Since the teachers and students are in school for nine weeks have a week of break, they can know look forward to up to two or three weeks of break. With the cut down on the summer break to add to the other breaks throughout the year, students have a better chance of retaining knowledge. It would be beneficial for schools to switch to the year-round school schedule because the teachers are happier and not on the verge of a breakdown, the breaks are longer, and the students retain the knowledge from the previous
“It’s for the public it’s year round and it 's also for the schools because we 're going to re-establish our school programs and all our outreach programs” Susan Hayward. Will year round schooling help or benefit the schools of the United States and society? Year round schools could change the reasons why teachers are teaching ("Top 10 Reasons"). Elimination of extended breaks from schools in the United States. would be beneficial to the population.
Year-round schooling has become more common in the past couple of years. By extending the school year, students get more breaks spread out throughout the year. This will help students learn more, but will also still give them breaks for relaxing. Many researchers believe it is more beneficial to spread out the school year. According to Zubrzycki, switching to a year-round
Is year-round schooling better than Tradition calendar schooling? Year-round schooling is the schooling of the future. With year-round schooling students remember lessons better and longer, have breaks more often, and it saves money. There are three thousand year-round schools in the united states in forty six states. More schools sould do the same.
First of all, the purpose of year round schooling is to cut down on expenses. However, schools found transitioning to the year round school calendar raised costs and transitioned back: “For example, Houston, Texas schools abandoned the YRS program after eight years because of the added expenses...” (Carter). Secondly, there are also more students that can go to the school which adds more costs. With more students comes more lunches that have to be made, more busses going out every day, and a need for more teachers (Carter). Lastly, the school would have to be kept in top shape all year round. This means that extra money is put towards paying the cleaning staff more year round, since they are putting in more hours. All in all, having year round schooling will increase school expenses tremendously and not facilitate(4) them in
If students go to school year round there will be more breaks! Instead of the usual summer vacation and a few holidays there would be scheduled breaks every two months. It may not be more than a few days but still a break. Students could count of time away from school without test or homework. It really is only a matter of redesigning the school schedule. This designing would allow for more classes in fields that will be needed in the coming years to bolster the global economy. Students will be able to take classes that will get them out of a school building and into the environment. Teachers can be more creative
I think that there are many benefits to year round schooling to definiteness. In the text it says that year- round schooling can also benefit teachers as well. With more breaks, teachers will have more time to plan lessons, normal school calendars don’t give teachers the time they really need to plan lessons. My second reason is that it prevents the “Summer Slip”, which is when kids forget what they learned over the summer. If we start having year round schooling, we will have shorter summer breaks, but more breaks in between. So the students don’t forget what they have learned over the year. So, year round schooling can benefit the teachers and prevent the summer slip.
The article by Leigh Anne Lytle accesses the question: Do students learn more and effectively in year-round schools or traditional calendar schools? In the article she states that more schools turn to year-round schools for many reasons. Interest in implementing year-round schools can be attributed to three advantages of a year-round calendar: increased student achievement; greater satisfaction among parents, teachers, and students and cost savings (McMillian, 2001). Studies have shown that year-round schools pros and cons with the transition of traditional schools to year-round calendar.
