In the TED talk, “The Pursuit of Ignorance,” Stuart Firestein makes the argument that there is this great misconception in the way that we study science. He describes the way we view the process of science today as, "a very well-ordered mechanism for understanding the world, for gaining facts, for gaining data." (Firestein 0:11 and 18:23) Although Firestein provides a convincing argument that modern science processes rely too much on facts instead of ignorance and new discovery, he fails to provide strong evidence that it should instead focus solely on the pursuit of ignorance.
There have been many contributions in these discoveries for example, anesthesia. This has helped the patients experience little to no pain during a procedure but before people had to be awake and feel everything happening to them.
Knowledge, the key to progress, has proven to be a human being’s most powerful and significant weapon. We gain knowledge when we put our brain to work at the problems we need to solve in life. People always make great discoveries, but they are sometimes caused by mistakes. Mistakes can’t help find discoveries. The real way to make discoveries is through lots of research and years of work. Although mistakes can help find discoveries they often do more damage than helping and can make people lose the trail to artifacts.
History has witnessed an immense number of scientific breakthroughs and simultaneously ,various paths that have led to 'eureka's. Though it may be true that examination of the familiar has proved to be beneficial for many scientists ,I think humanity has discovered far more about the world it exists in by exploring the unfamiliar .The construction of 'Christopher' machine ,the unique decryption device of Enigma, and Columbus's discovery of America prove this opinion conclusively.

The practice of medicine has been shaped through the years by advances in the area of diagnostic procedures. Many of these advances were made possible by scientific breakthroughs made before the 20th century. Modern medicine arguably emerged. Both normal and abnormal functions (physiology and pathology) were increasingly understood within smaller units, first the tissues and then the cells. Microscopy also played a key role in the development of bacteriology. Physicians started to use stethoscope as an aid in diagnosing certain diseases and conditions. Throughout the course of history, scientific discoveries have led to the birth of new knowledge. Humanity’s increase in knowledge has helped to achieve new heights of understanding in a variety of fields such as medicine, nuclear power, and nuclear weapons. While some of these achievements in science can generate much prosperity, some technology has created significant amounts of controversy. The Honors 2400 class entitled The Chernobyl Incident has granted me over the course of the semester the opportunity to analyze these scenarios and understand the challenging questions that are associated with the pursuit of knowledge. From many examples discussed in class, I understand the importance of limiting knowledge, the discoveries that humanity should or should not pursue, how individuals pursue confined questions, and who is ultimately responsible for approving or disapproving of these scientific questions.
