Isabella Orozco is a hardworking Chino Hills High Student in her 3rd year of the Health and Science Academy. When described by both mentors and peers, Isabella is always said to be a person who is willing to go above and beyond. An example of this was when she was on a field trip to the newly opened Keiser Permanente Labs during her sophomore year. Keiser Permanente was giving an opportunity to a few juniors and seniors to internship at this lab, and Isabella was determined to be one of those few who got that opportunity even though she wasn’t in the age group that they wanted. That day she asked questions and interacted with the interviewers so much that they not only gave her the internship, but she was the leader of the interns as well.
The two defining moments in my scholarly life that define what my character consists of are the months as a coach for the U-9 R.I.S.C. Takers Soccer team as well as my trip to the village of Cuajiniquil, Costa Rica with the National Geographic summer community service program. Both of these instances have taught me valuable life lessons, including my responsibility as a role model for young children, the importance of giving back to our community, and the acceptance of other cultures, practices, and behaviors. This is what make me who I am and a very qualified candidate for the title of National Honor Society Member.
Puerto Rican poet Judith Ortiz Cofer, in her poem “El Olvido,” suggests forgetting one’s origins is dangerous. Cofer’s purpose is to emphasize the perils that are consequent to neglecting past values. Cofer uses imagery to establish an origin for the poem’s basis. She describes the act of the character’s negligence as “to choke out the voices of dead relatives,” illustrating the characters immense opposition to formalities. The idea that the character’s negligence is delineated as choking out their dead relatives’ voices exemplifies the severity of the condescending and audacious nature of rejecting one’s origins.

On Wednesday, January 25 at 10: 30, I interviewed Stephanie Moret, a graduate student at Northern Arizona University. Ms. Moret is an English major, with her specific graduate program being Rhetoric, Writing and Digital Media. Her thesis focuses on how using social media could solve problems with understaffing, specifically in her hometown. Hopefully in a few months she will be able to put her thesis to the test back home, where she hopes to get a job with the city. She will help with their social media and marketing department, as well as overseeing their aquatics department. I met Ms. Moret my first semester at NAU in English 105, where she instructed me on how to write a wide variety of essays both individually and collaboratively. I chose to interview Ms. Moret because I am currently unaware as to what I want to do career wise, however, I know that I will be
As Junior (the protagonist of the novel) began to gain more hope throughout the story, I saw that Fantashia began caring more about her eduction. She identified with Junior in his struggles with poverty, violence, and not feeling like enough. She began to question why teenagers are so quick to fight and hold grudges. She started to reflect on why she cared so much what others thought of her when really what was important was what she thought of herself. Fantashia began to excel in my English class. She was always ready to participate and when she did, her responses were honest and insightful. Whenever she handed in a written assignment she always asked for feedback and wanted to know what she could do to articulate her ideas clearly. Fantashia even began hanging out with a different group of students and became best friends with one of the shyest students in her grade. I watched as Fantashia not only grew into her own, but encouraged her friend to do the same, by teaching her that one's voice is all a person has and they need to use both their mind and voice to get ahead in life. It is with my greatest honor that I recommend Fantashia to your school. Not only will she excel academically, but she will be a positive influence and a leader on your
With a supportive group of peers and mentors in my corner, I have had the opportunity to attend a highly competitive altitude training camp hosted by Olympian runner, Brenda Martinez and become a leading volunteer for the Los Angeles school board candidate, Kelly Gonez. I am grateful that I was given the chance to connect with inspiring and phenomenal women through the support and skills I gained in the Escalera program. There are many lessons I have learned from my accomplishments and certainly going to camp with Brenda Martinez and learning about the policy making process through volunteering has presented a new dawn in me to act on my dreams and to see the world as a place of opportunity, but it has also enlightened me to run towards any challenge or goal with swinging arms and a big stride. I became aware of the eminence of education firsthand at home and it is why I believe that higher education is a tool I can avail myself of in order to make sure my vision for a better future is a reality for everyone in my
I am Amber Bradshaw, daughter to wonderful parents, younger sister to the bane of my existence, and current student at Rome High School. At Rome High School, I am an active student. For that, I have been awarded the status of an AP Scholar with Distinction.
A victim is a person who has been hurt or taken advantage of. In the story, Angela Vicario is the biggest victim out of all the characters, because she was forced to get married to someone who she did not love and created a lie for losing her virginity before getting married.
In addition to tutoring and mentoring the children in the community, Jacelyn also holds the position as Volunteer and Outreach Coordination, requiring her recruit, organize, and oversee student volunteers in the project. In addition, due to financial constraints in her family, Jacelyn also has an off-campus job that requires her to work many late nights and weekends. This ability to manage two jobs, a research assistant position, and consistent participation in community service while maintaining her exceptional GPA at an academically rigorous institution like UCLA demonstrates her admirable character, work ethic, and time management, valuable skills found in few students.

She is a born leader, and works excellently in groups and frequently pushes her groups to reach their goals. Furthermore, I have rarely seen a student more respectful to both teachers and her peers than Georgia. She is a very social person, and is both outgoing and funny. Georgia is also exceptionally creative. She is always pushing herself to look at challenges and assignments in a different way and it always pays off, especially when writing essays and in other written assignments, as she is an amazing writer. The characteristics that Georgia has demonstrated throughout her entire high school career have prepared her for the upcoming challenge of collegiate academics. I am certain she will approach these new opportunities with the same persistency and drive for excellence that she applies to all of her endeavors, especially as she challenges herself with the new learning experiences and community that are available in the college setting. To conclude, Georgia is an extraordinary student and person, and I recommend her to this school with my highest regards. Sincerely, Georgia Beckmann Head of College Counselling Prospect Hill Academy Charter School Collegiate
