Islam, meaning submission or submitting oneself fully to God, is one of the world’s largely practiced religions. Those that participate and practice the Islamic religion
The Islamic religion is a Middle Eastern, Arabic Peninsula, based religion that originated right around the 7th c. and is based on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. The definition of the word Islam means "submission" in Arabic, and connotes the notion of a total surrender of oneself to God, Allah in the Arabic language. Individuals who practice Islam are known as Muslims, which, again in Arabic, means "one who submits to God"
To understand the religion Islam the most important thing is to understand the meaning of the name. As one can see that Islam is not named after a person like in Christianity after Jesus Christ. Islam is the true religion of Allah and as such, its name represents the main principle of Allah “God” religion the total submission to the will of Allah. Islam means the submission or surrender of one’s will to the only true god worthy of worship in Arabic. Any who does this is termed a Muslim which, the word implies peace which is the natural consequence of total submission to the will of Allah (Meaning of Islam).
Islam is an Arabic word meaning submission and therefore Islam religion is believed to be an Abrahamic religion which believes in submission to the almighty God Allah and Muhammad as the prophet. Quran is the holy book believed to be the guideline of the Muslims who are the followers of the Islamic religion. It is believed that Allah repeatedly revealed to Muhammad verbally through angel Gabriel and recited in the Quran (Hadith of Revelation, Volume 1, Book 1, Number 3). Over time particular aspects arose from the Quranic teachings and Muslims began to have questions about the teachings and translation of The Quran, thus, narrations were developed in Hadiths.
Islam, a major world religion, founded in Arabia and based on the teachings of Muhammad, who is called the Prophet. One who practices Islam is a Muslim. Muslims follow the Koran, the written revelation brought by Muhammad. The Muslim world population is estimated at more than 1 billion. Islam is the quickest growing religion.
Bilhartz did very well in explaining the background of Islam. He was correct when he said that Islam "remains one of the world's most misunderstood religious traditions", despite it being the second largest religion in the world ( Bilhartz, p. 103). Before reading the chapter, I had no idea what Islam was all about. In the following paragraphs, I have included information about Islam that was new or interesting to me. To begin, Muslims are offended when their religion is referred to as Muhammadanism because it implies that Muhammad was the creator of the religion rather than God (Bilhartz, p. 103). Muhammad was regarded as only a mouthpiece for God to bring people back to the pure faith. The correct term is Islam, which the word is derived from the Arabic letters s-l-m, which means "surrender" and "peace" in English (Blihartz, p.103). There is also the misconception that Islam is only in the Arab world. Not all Arabs in the Middle East are Muslims and the largest Islamic population is found in South Asia (Bilhartz, p. 103).
Islam is the third major monotheistic religion in the Abrahamic tradition. It has 1.3 billion followers, mainly in northern Africa, west and south Asia. It was formed in 622 CE, with origins in or around the Arabian Peninsula. Islam means surrender or submission was founded by the teachings of the prophet Muhammad of surrendering the will to Allah. Allah is god in Arabic, the maker, creator, and sustainer of all things of life and everything in this universe. Muhammad is considered to be the last prophet of god. Devine knowledge from Allah is collected revelations precise in the Qur’an. The Qur’an is the Islamic holy book equivalent to the bible with Holy Scriptures, emphasizes living
"Islam" is derived from the Arabic root salaama meaning peace, purity, submission and obedience. Islam stands for making peace by submitting to the will of God and obeying His law. Jews and Christians view Islam as the latest of the world's great religions. However, worldwide Muslims (sometimes written "Moslems") understand their universal religion as the "final religion" and the "primal religion."
In recent years, the religion Islam has been the topic of many discussions. Most of these discussions center around the recent acts of terrorism. Those who have never had the opportunity to learn about Islam may not understand the basic principles and teachings of the religion. This lack of understanding leads to discrimination, a distorted view of what Islam stands for and, at its extreme, a hatred for anyone who practices Islam. When a person takes the time to learn about Islam, they will find that it is not that much different from Judaism or Christianity. Muslims recite from the Qur’an, just as Christians read from the Bible. Muslims also have five pillars that they must accomplish and they have certain taboos that they must stay away from. When one looks at these three things, they will see that Islam is actually a religion that is rooted in mercy and peace.
Islam is the religion for about a fifth of the world’s population and is continually growing in numbers. The people who believe in Islam, are called Muslims. It is a religion full of peace, mercy, and forgiveness (Basic facts about). Islam was founded in the 7th
The first thing that one should know and clearly understand about Islam is what the word "Islam" itself means. The religion of Islam is not named after a person as in the case of Christianity which was named after Jesus Christ, Buddhism after Gotama Buddha, Confucianism after Confucius, and Marxism after Karl Marx. Nor was it named after a tribe like Judaism after the tribe of Judah and Hinduism after the Hindus. Islam is the true religion of "Allah" and as such, its name represents the central principle of Allah's "God's" religion; the total submission to the will of Allah "God". The Arabic word "Islam" means the submission or surrender of one's will to the only true god worthy of worship "Allah" and anyone who does so is termed a
The holy Quran is a collection of the divinely inspired utterances and discourses (Ahmed, 16). It is composed of some 300 pages which are divided into 114 Surahs (chapters). The general tone of the holy Quran is sombre and meditative. It is a dialogue between God and humanity. At the core is a moral earnestness (Ahmed, 16). The Quran also teaches that humanity is created by God and therefore God understands its weaknesses and in Allah humans find the source of peace. Islam’s appeal lay – and – lies in the simplicity: one God, one Book, one Prophet (Ahmed, 17). Islam is a religion of balance, equilibrium, and compassion. The Islamic virtues are courage, generosity, cleanliness, and piety: and in his life the Prophet exemplifies them (Ahmed, 17).
The religion of Islam dates back to the 7th century CE and the life of its founder, Muhammad of Mecca, in Saudi Arabia. Islam is an Arabic word meaning: making something safe and secure, making something sound and whole, entering into peace and tranquility, and surrendering to something other than oneself. A follower of Islam is called a Muslim. In the religion of Islam, it requires the belief in certain core tenets, which include the articles of faith and the five pillars of worship. These two combined, form the Islamic creed.
Though the stereotypes we have heard may have or currently do believe, hold some truth there is more to Islam than what most Americans and westerners claim to see. Islam means submission to the will of Allah (swt1), {see footnote} the Arabic word for God, and the obedience of His law. Islam is the religion followed by Muslims. Muslim means one who submits to Allah (swt). Allah (swt) sent Prophet Muhammad (saws2) the words of the Koran, the Holy Book of Islam. Prophet Muhammad (saws) also wrote the Hadith, which is the group of sayings of Prophet Muhammad (saws) {see footnote} and a collection of things that he did. The Koran, also spelt Qur’an, and the Hadith are the books that are the basis for the Islamic faith and the
Islam is not a new religion but the final culmination and fulfillment of the same basic truth that God revealed through all His prophets to every people. For a fifth of the world's population, Islam is not just a personal religion but a complete way of living. Over a billion people from all races, nationalities and cultures across the globe are Muslim--from the rice farms of Indonesia to the deserts in the heart of Africa; from the skyscrapers of New York to the Bedouin tents in Arabia.
