Having been experiencing a huge number of major historical incidents affecting various aspects of their lives, the people belonging to different corners of a country gradually establish their unique culture distinguishing them and their nation among all other nations in the world. Most importantly, the culture of people of different countries has been affected dramatically by revolutions during the history, especially religious ones, through which the lifestyle of those people had been completely reformed. The Islamic revolution, the most recent revolution in my country, in particular, had a plenty of serious effects on our people's way of living.
First of all, due to its religious origins, the lifestyle of people has been totally reshaped
Within the past twelve years, Islam has grown to be the second largest religion practiced around the world. Growing up, there weren’t many Muslim people that practiced Islam as there are now. Ten years ago, I would only see about one or two Muslims as I walked down the street, but now I see many more. In Philadelphia, there are more than 200,000 people who are Muslim, and 85% of those people are African-American. In this city when people see African-American Muslims who are garbed up they don’t discriminate against them. To be a Muslim in this society it causes controversy because people are constantly pointing out all of the flaws within them.
The chapter continued to discuss how people experience other cultures when they are removed from their area to a different place. This occurs in the form of culture shock people experience new traditions that are unfamiliar to them when the come to a place that is home to another culture. Human development may also include joining the ideas of various cultures and forming it into a new concept. It puts heavy emphasis on learning other cultures in an unbiased form in order to compare and make observations. This chapter also studies of culture have been able to advance over time and how change is an essential aspect of
This film tells a very interesting life of a man who changed the world over 1,000 years ago. Although he changed the world many years ago he lives through the people of the world, many of which are Americans. I learned many interesting facts about Muhammad, but what I found the most interesting was that when he was born his father died and at the age of six his mother passed. He was soon adopted by his powerful uncle, but Muhammad believed that he was nothing but an orphan. It was said that he could not read or write, although he could not Muhammad made a good life for his self he married and also established a profitable business for his self. He married a woman who was a little older than he was around the age of twenty and many people believed that he was after her money.
Culture is one of the most relevant elements that can define not only a society but also a country’s cumulative beliefs and system. Often noted as the origins of a country, culture is definitive in the sense that it harbors all the elements that can provide justification on the traditions and norms set by the society for its members. More often than not, the society members follow norms in order to create a harmonious community, and the beliefs and the traditions serve as the poles or grounding rules for each member to follow. Culture is very dynamic in the way that it can change over a variety of foreign influences but what is permanent about it is that original elements about it often lingers with the influences, therefore making it multi-faceted and broad. More importantly, culture serves as an individual and unique trait each society has, and therefore sets it apart from other countries and other societies.
When we think of culture, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Many of us begin to envision how certain people or countries carry themselves in their daily routines. Whether it is in the way they cook, dress, celebrate certain holidays, or just other beliefs in general. Picture a country that at one-point war was so bad and constant that is was normal for women to cook for soldiers who are passing by their homes. It isn’t frowned upon to have a corrupted government because that is something they have had to deal with since their independence, and children as young as the age of seven are militants walking around with weapons in their hands, becoming social terrors. At least during the 1980’s
the government and media. I believe that people running this country are Anti Islamic due to there view on things. Also this is a Zionist country, which is another reason that makes the media discriminate against the Muslim’s, due to the conflict with Palestine and other Muslim countries. The media has always portrayed Islam in a negative way. The reason the media is biased when it comes to Islam because they hate the Islamic structure and the beliefs. The majority of media conglomerate ownership is of people who
From what I have experienced it is extremely hard to separate culture and religion. Most times, if aspects of your religion and culture clash, then religion usually takes over. During the group discussion part of the midterm, I noticed that some countries had to change their ways to adapt to their religion. For example, when Islam was introduced to certain African countries, most of the people had to change their customs in order to be considered ‘Proper Muslims’. As an example, let's consider Somalia, the country my father is from.
In our society today, culture is not what it used to be hundreds of years ago. There is no more “pure” culture. Our culture today is enriched with many different traditions and customs that are being shared and adopted. Due to emigration and immigration, a variety of diverse customs, beliefs, and knowledge moved with every exiting and entering human being. Thus, changing and shaping the culture of many. Throughout the world, the beliefs and religious views of culture are dissimilar around the world. By taking the time to read, listen and learn about certain people’s culture, there will be knowledge and understanding that will be gained.
As history continues, many religions have had an over powering effect on western civilization. When the 5th century arose, the religion, Islam, had an extremely important impact on the civilization. Muhammad, an Arabic prophet founded Islam and began to introduce it the people of his time. Diplomacy, violence, warfare, public laws, and Arabic tradition played a crucial role in the building of the Islamic religion. These important aspects helped shape and build the Islam religion that is now one of the world’s most widely practiced religions.
By studying cultures and religions other than my own in Turkey, Morocco, Egypt and Greece it became clear to me that religion plays a huge part in shaping ones cultural identity. Bringing this "cultural identity" viewpoint to its
Throughout world history there has been a pattern of one unfortunate group of people being pit against the rest, this people being persecuted and discriminated for their religious beliefs, political ideology, and even the color of their skin. In the United States it was the Native Americans, then the Chinese and the Irish, to now present day hostility to Latinos. The same can be said in every region of the world. The perpetuation of the “Us versus Them” binary is an occurrence that in some form or another inevitably comes to become apart of the social, political, and economic fabric of every country, region, and continent in history. Europeans are no exception, and currently, their biggest “nuisance” are Muslim immigrants moving to their countries.
Islamic civilization on Western land allowed a different way of living and thinking much superior to the one existing in the rest of Europe. Until around the end of the eleventh century, the Western views of Islam and its cultural and military triumphant civilizations were fostered by ignorance and hatred toward Islam and the Muslims. The highest intellectual achievements of the West during the Crusades were from imitation of Islamic science and learning. Universities were found in the West that were patterned on the Muslim universities in that they pursue new knowledge made available by translations of the works in Arabic and Greek classics. Arabo-Islamic culture, knowledge, scholarship, and science fed the Western world’s development for
The room was dimly lit but the rows of seated students were clearly visible from outside the door. Looking through the door I could see that all eyes were focused on a PowerPoint presentation, I knew that the PowerPoint was on Islam and being a Muslim in American. I also knew that my brother and I were late. We looked at each other with our brows slightly wrinkled in a silent debate on who would pierce this idealistic scene. My hand moved and opened the door, all eyes locked into us and a jovial voice stopped mid-sentence to welcome us in and offered us a seat. As I sat down, and admired the many trays of fruit, bread and water that was offered for all. The side that was currently on was on the five pillars on Islam, the first being Shahada
Culture is one of the major influences on our lives and social interactions; culture is associated with our characteristics of religion, societal norms of behavior; moreover, culture is always changing and the influence increases. With every religion there are traditions and cultures that are a form of art as it involves many characteristics’ of individuals and their beliefs, values, and perspective, for this reason, there are various dynamics in terms of how culture is involved and the influence of our actions, such as media, peers, family, and socializations. Culture is a factor of social environment and what is modeled to us in our early years of development.
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) stated that a "re-newer or Islam will arise during every century" (This part is a little bit unclear, you might have to define what “re-newer” is), Throughout the course of history, many influential thinkers and intellects arose during several eras and have left a profound impact on modern day (optional to add this if it sounds better) Islam. During the 5th Islamic century, Imam Al Ghazali became one of the most influential thinkers in the history of Islam. Born in Persia, Al- Ghazali lost the shadow of his father early in his life, as at a young age his father had passed away. Al Ghazali’s fathers’ desire had always been for his sons to become scholars and pious people, therefore he had left them in the hands of close friend that took responsibility of teaching them. Ghazali underwent many years of education from several different "Imams" (You might have to define what an imam is…in order to make it clearer), including Imam Al-Juwayni ( give a brief description of what he was famous for?), through which he was able to join the school of Nizam Al Mulk.
