The truth is that Islam literally means peace. There’s also irony in that Islam rejects western notions, even though many western inventions such as Algebra and numerous scientific advancements came from the Islamic golden age. The vast majority of Muslims in America are actually patriotic towards America, and have assimilated well. I've broken the mold of being seen as a terrorist, as I’m a peaceful person to the extent where i wouldn’t hurt a fly. Also, because i was born in America, I have a lot more in common with my own country than the heathens we’re portrayed as. On a side note, my parents, who immigrated to America during the late 90s, speak fluent English and know more about this country than I
Islam in two Americas is a delayed thesis argument about the state of Islāmic/American relations in the US, post 9-11. As a delayed thesis, the author, Ross Douthat, opens the debate with a brief explanation of the “two Americas” as he sees it. Within the current political climate that is America today, it would be hard to argue that this divide does not exist.
Muslims in America faced several difficulties as they tried to gain racial equality and religious freedom. When they entered America and began to form an Islam religion there was a vastly larger number of white Christians than there were Muslims, and as a result, one of the difficulties they faced was that they were outnumbered by other religions. Because of the Islam religion being outnumbered by other religions, there was much less knowledge on their religion than there was on Christianity, leading to them being a minority compared to white Christians. As a result of this, there were not as many organizations that helped to increase the number of Islam presence in America. One of the organizations that was developed to help the Islam religion in America was the creation of the Moorish Science Temple, which Noble Drew Ali founded because "African Americans were descended from the
On a clear Tuesday, the morning of September 11, 2001, at 8:45 a.m. a terrorist attacked reshaped many facets of life in America (Villemez, 2011). Muslims influenced American history in the 21st century social, cultural, and political issues. However, some of the redesigning were temporary while others proved to be more lasting.
Muhammad’s father-in-law Abu Bakr took over leadership of the umma as the successor (caliph) of Muhammad. Abu Bakr faced two main tasks: standardization of the Islamic religion and consolidation of the Islamic state. Abu Bakr successfully re-established Muslim authority over the Arabs and oversaw the compilation and organization of the Quran in book form.
Nowadays, citizens often hear about the troubles Islamist radicals bring to countries, especially in the U.S. and Europe. It is known that people have several opinions on this particular religion, but the real question to be asked is whether Islam is really a religion of violence or peace. There are many Islamist groups- Isis and al-Quaida for example- that are responsible for acts of terrorism. For instance, the bombing of the twin towers in 2001 in New York, the London terrorist bombings that killed 52 innocent lives, the many bombings and attacks in Paris, etc. Personally, I think Islam is neither a religion of peace nor violence. Islam is not revolving around the idea of violence, but they don’t necessarily act in a tranquil manner. Moreover, Islam is not just a religion to its followers, it is more an ideology whereas its followers live for their religion; I think this is why some go to such extreme measures.
I attended Dr. Mark Hausfeld’s presentation at Wilson Institute on 9/30/16. The topic of his lecture was, “Islam in America: Understanding and engaging diaspora Muslims through the local church”. The lecture was based upon his mission work, he served as the second J. Philip Hogan Professor of World Missions, in 2007-2008. Currently, Dr. Mark Hausfeld, D. Min. is the President of the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, MO. He has been engaged in the ministries of both in the United States and abroad for the last 30 years. Dr. Mark and his wife Lynda has worked with Assemblies of God World Missions (AGWM) in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan from 1995 to 2001. His mission was to evangelize

About 90 percent of Egyptians are Islamic. Most of them are Sunni Muslims. The other 10 percent is christian. Early Islam was spreading wildly throughout the Middle East. The spread of Islamic as well as economic and social factors fueled this expansionism. By the end of the Islam’s first century, Islamic armies had reached far into North Africa and eastward and northward into Asia. Among those first countries Egypt.
On December 1, I attended a program called “Stories of Black Muslims in America” sponsored by Damietta Cross Cultural Center. As a white Muslim, I haven’t experienced any racism toward my skin color so it was interesting to see how black Muslims in America have embraced both sides of their identity. “Black” and “Muslim” are terms often not associated with one another. In fact, most Americans have a hard time understanding the concept.
Islam is portrayed and is commonly accepted as the most violent and largest direct threat to the West. This is a generalization made by most of the West, but it is not particularly the West or the Islamic people’s fault. There is constant turmoil in Islamic countries in the Middle East and these conflicts are what make the news in the West. The only representation in the media that the Islamic nation gets is that of war. Though most Islamic people are not violent, the select few that do participate in terrorist groups give the rest of the Islam nation a bad image.
MUSLIMS! No not ISIS or Al Qaeda. Muslims the ones that actually practice the Islamic faith. Islam means the one who peacefully surrenders to God. Islam first originated from Mecca to Medina and later extended into the West and East. Back in the days, there were only a small number of Muslims, however today there's about 1.6 billion Muslims worldwide. Muslims believe in only one God and that Muhammad, peace be upon him, is his last messenger. Muslims pray five times a day, give to charity, fast during the holy month of Ramadan, and go to pilgrimage. Muslims believe in a set of rules and guides the inhibit drinking alcohol, drugs and premarital sex. Both Muslim men and women are required
There are so many Muslims in America, about 3.3 million Muslims of all ages in 2015. For some Americans this might be scary to know, because of islamophobia. They see all Muslims as terrorist, without knowing the reality. Islam has always been shown as a religion of violence especially after 9/11. So many news artifacts, social media, and even the tv shows being watched on tv try to show Islam as violence. But it’s not, actually it’s the totally opposite of that. Islam is all about peace, and friendship with one another. In Islam you must even be kind to your enemy. Islam is loving one another and helping one another. Islam is against violence, but so many people just believes what the news has to show or what social media has to say. Or what
I also feel it’s necessary to point out that many Muslims live peaceful lives all throughout the globe. Muslims aren’t confined solely to regions were extremism is more prevalent. There are Muslims in both developing regions and developed regions. The book makes a point to briefly mention the impact that emerging Muslim communities have made within the Western World. It’s safe to say that the majority of Muslims don’t and won’t follow extremist ideals as time ticks on. I look forward to reading the final chapter of the book, which will discuss this topic in
oil in the Middle East. People lump in all Muslims and all Arabs as all
Islam is a religion of peace, as can be seen in the following three points. Firstly, Islam is a way to serenity of mind. Secondly, it fosters and nurtures a placid society for all human beings. Furthermore, Islam and the Islamic laws are extremely well designed to suit the needs of the corrupt world and transform it completely into an environment of love and compassion.
