Why China want to Isolationism instead of opening to the world? However, Why Japan opening

the country to the West? In 19th Century, China was actually declining by poverty, revenue was no

longer to handle the administration. Bloody rebellion and War with the west and Japan made

Chinese government more suffering and harsh. Qing dynasty1 did not fall yet because of strong

central power of the elite of the Qing dynasty. China was bad for the pride by defeat of the war

between Japan and Western allied occupation of the Beijing at 1900. The internal threat is seriously

badly handle the dynasty such as bloody rebellion of Boxer2. Anti emperor movement make Qing

The farm harvested small amounts of the

surplus of labor, and wages were cut by not enough surplus for workers. Farm workers were

suffered by lower wage. All the lands were occupied by the high ranking class people. People have

had conflict over rights to tenancy and shortage of marriages. Hard times brought over reducing the

young man and female infanticide. Population growth risen up as burden of the Qing dynasty. It was

hard to control all of the population. Government had resources to try to improve the conditions of

the poor. It did not work as expected. The supporting of hereditary force made decline of Qing

dynasty more faster. The rebellions risen up very quickly, and military force tried to take them out

from public. If Westernized and enlightened, it would be chaos as I guess.

Compare to China, Japan accepted western civilization and became most powerful country in

Asia during 19th century, they also defeated Russia, and occupied Korea. In japan, villages had to

deal with internal conflict. Each village collected tax among the farmers, family business, expenses

for administration. In eastern Japan, village leaders suffered from population decline. Bandits3
